Virgin Australia to fly between Darwin and Alice Springs

Virgin Australia Airlines (Brisbane) has announced that it will introduce nonstop services between Darwin and Alice Springs from the end of March 2015, to coincide with the opening of the new Virgin Australia Lounge in Darwin.

The airline will introduce this new weekly schedule of services using its Boeing 737 aircraft.

Alice Springs, Australia to become the next airliner graveyard

Alice Springs (Australia) has been selected as the next desert aircraft graveyard.

Alice Springs Airportย (IATA:ย ASP,ย ICAO:ย YBAS) is a small regional airport 14 kilometres south ofย Alice Springsย in theย Northern Territoryย of Australia.

The airport has twoย runways, the largest of which can accommodate aย Boeing 747ย orย 777ย landingย (but not a fully ladenย takeoffย due to high temperatures and the runway length). The only scheduled flights using the airport are domestic, although international charters do use the airport on occasions. The airport is not subject to a curfew and operates 24 hours a day.
