Wreckage of Pamir Airways’ Antonov An-24B YA-PIS is located

Pamir Airways’ (Kabul) Antonov An-24B YA-PIS has been located. The airlinerย disappeared Monday while flying over Afghanistanโ€™s Hindu Kush mountains with 44 people on board, including six foreigners, officials said.

Photos supplied by NATOย forces show that the plane had broken into four pieces that were strewn across a steep mountainside, suggesting that it was unlikely that anyone survived.

Pamir Airways (Kabul) has lost its Antonov An-24B YA-PIS (msn 27307903) today in a remote part of Afghanistan. The aircraft wasย carrying 44 passengers and crew, including six foreigners, in a mountainous northern region with poor weather.

Rescuers were on their way to the crash site near the 12,700-foot highย Salangย Pass, a major route through theย Hindu Kush mountainsย that connects the capital to the north. The plane, on a flight from the northern city of Kunduz, went down about 60 miles fromย Kabul.
