Mesa Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 N514MJ operating as flight UA3796 overruns the runway on landing at Buffalo

Mesa Airlines (Phoenix) last night (June 7) had an incident at Buffalo, New York. United Express flight UA3796 operating from the Washington (Dulles) hub to Buffalo with a Mesa Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 (CL-600-2C10) N514MJ (msn 10116) overran the runway end on landing. The regional jet came to a stop in an overrun grassy area. There were no injuries to the 69 passengers and three members on board.

Update: Three passengers lost consciousness on United Express flight 5622

SkyWest Airlines (United Express) (St. George, Utah) initially issued this short statement concerning its United Express flight UA 5622 that made an emergency landing at Buffalo on April 22:

SkyWest Flight 5622 landed safely in Buffalo, NY after a passenger lost consciousness, no problem with door. Other 75 pax being accommodated.

The Los Angeles Times, now quoting the airline, is reporting three passengers lost consciousness on flight UA 5622. The three passengers were sitting near each other in seats 11B, 12A and 12B. Flight UA 5622 was operating from the Chicago (O’Hare) hub (ORD) to Hartford/Springfield at Bradley International Airport (BDL).

The flight crew notified ATC of a pressurization problem and declared an emergency. The aircraft was quickly descended to a safe altitude before landing.

The flight was operated with Embraer ERJ 170-200LR (ERJ 175) N131SY (msn 17000450).

SpiceJet’s flight to Delhi hits a buffalo on takeoff at Surat, crew aborts the Boeing 737-800 takeoff

SpiceJet‘s (Delhi) flight SG 622 carrying 146 passengers and crew members from Surat to Delhi was forced to abort its its takeoff last night (November 6) after the Boeing 737-800 hit a stray buffalo on the runway. There were not injuries but the aircraft’s engine (above) sustained some damage. The airline has suspended operations at Surat International Airport in rural India “indefinitely”. The aircraft was grounded and an alternate aircraft flew the passengers to Delhi as intended.

The airline stated everyone on board was safe on its Twitter page but stated “stray animals (are) a growing menace in some airports”.

DGCA has ordered an investigation.

Sunwing Airlines fights back, will launch package charter flights from Buffalo, New York

Sunwing Airlines (Toronto-Pearson) has seen some of its Canadian traffic being syphoned by U.S. carriers with vacation flights leaving from close-by U.S. cities like Buffalo, New York. Canadian citizens have been crossing the border to catch the cheaper flights at these close-by U.S. airports. Now the Canadian carrier has decided to do the same thing.

The carrier is introducing two new services in association with Sunwing Vacations. Departing from Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) on Saturdays, services to Cancun International Airport (CUN) will begin on January 17, 2015 and operate until May 9, 2015, while flights to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) will be available between February 14, 2015 and May 9, 2015.

The new routes represent the first direct scheduled international destinations to be offered, increasing the number of airports accessible via a direct connection from Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Sunwing Airlines’ nonstop flights are operated on Boeing 737-800 series aircraft which seat 189 passengers.

According to the carrier, these “low cost, high frills” flights enable travellers to start off their vacation in style with a complimentary welcome glass of champagne. Delta to become the official airline of the NHL Buffalo Sabres

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) has announced it will serve as the official airline of the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres. Additionally, the airline will provide charter service for the team throughout the 2013-2014 season.

As the official airline of the Buffalo Sabres, Delta will be featured on game day signage at the First Niagara Center, the largest indoor arena in western New York, and sponsor in-game promotions.

Delta now has marketing and/or charter relationships with nine NHL teams. Along with the Buffalo Sabres, Delta is also the official airline of the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings.  Additionally, Delta provides charter service for the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals.

Beginning in March 2012, Delta added new all-jet service from LaGuardia to key upstate markets including Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.

Delta is the largest airline at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, offering 23-peak day departures to five nonstop destinations including Atlanta, New York-LaGuardia, New York-JFK, Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
