American to introduce the Miami to Cap-Haitien, Haiti route on October 2

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) will launch new daily service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cap-Haitien, Haiti (CAP), adding a new international destination to the airline’s growing global network. Customers can now book travel on the new route for travel beginning October 2, 2014, subject to government approval.

The new route supplements American’s long-standing service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and will be operated with a Boeing 737-800.

Tortug’ Air of Haiti wants to fly to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood with a Bombardier CRJ100

Tortug’ Air (Port-au-Prince) has applied to the the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to be able to fly a daily service from Cap Haitien on the north shore of Haiti to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood according to this article by Routes News. Haitian carriers are currently banned from flying to the United States due to FAA safety and security concerns.

Established in March, 2003, the Haitian carrier currently operates domestic and regional routes with BAe Jetstream 31s (see the route map below). In its application, the airline proposes to operate the new route with a wet-leased Bombardier CRJ100 (CL-600-2B19) from CemAir (Johannesburg) of South Africa (see below).
