JetBlue Airways becomes a pathway for ExpressJet Airlines pilots

ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta) has announced a new partnership with JetBlue Airways (New York) through the JetBlue University Gateway Program to offer qualified students and current pilots a clear pathway to a career at JetBlue.

The partnership expands on an earlier agreement with JetBlue to create three distinct pathways from an Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) partner school to ExpressJet to JetBlue:

ExpressJet to JetBlue: Graduate AABI partner school and serve as a flight instructor for one year to meet Airline Transport Pilot (“ATP”)/Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (“R-ATP”) minimums >> Serve as a first officer at ExpressJet for at least 3,000 hours and 36 months for at least 4,000 hours total flight time >> Interview and begin training at JetBlue.

ExpressJet to Cape Air to JetBlue: Graduate AABI partner school and serve as a flight instructor for one year to meet ATP/R-ATP minimums >> Serve as a first officer at ExpressJet for at least 1,800 hours and 24 months >> Serve as a captain at Cape Air for at least 1,000 hours and 12 months for at least 3,800 hours total flight time >> Interview and begin training at JetBlue

Cape Air to ExpressJet to JetBlue: Graduate AABI partner school and serve as a flight instructor for one year >> Serve as a captain at Cape Air for at least 1,000 hours and 18 months >> Serve as a first officer at ExpressJet for at least 1,800 hours and 18 months for at least 3,800 hours total flight time >> Interview and begin training at JetBlue

In addition, this new partnership will offer current ExpressJet pilots who meet all program requirements an additional option for career advancement.

The new ExpressJet pathways join the long-standing partnership between Cape Air and JetBlue. The Cape Air to JetBlue pathway requires graduation from an AABI partner school, flight instructor experience and at least 2,500 hours and 24 months at Cape Air for at least 3,200 total flight hours, plus a jet transition course before an interview at JetBlue.

Pilots in the Gateway program must meet a defined set of criteria, including regular performance reviews, and successfully complete new hire interviews at each airline in the path they choose. In addition, for the University Gateway Program, pilots must attend Auburn University, Bridgewater State University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona and Prescott campuses), Inter-American University of Puerto Rico, Jacksonville University and the University of North Dakota. Cape Air celebrates the first month of serving eastern Montana

Cape Air (Hyannis) began serving eastern Montana on December 10, 2013. From its hub in Billings, Cape Air now operates daily, year-round flights to five regional communities.

Cape Air appoints a new president, the only female airline president in North America

Cape Air‘s (Hyannis) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Linda Markham as President and Chief Administrative Officer (CEO) effective on March 18, 2013. Preceding President and Chief Operating Officer, Dave Bushy, announced his retirement in January. Markham brings eleven years of strong growth, financial, operational, planning and human resources leadership experience with Cape Air to her new role. She previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

Cape Air Founder and CEO, Dan Wolf, notes Markham’s exceptional ability to lead diverse groups across the organization’s 36 stations in the US, Caribbean and Micronesia. “Linda has provided remarkable leadership to not only the operational and financial divisions of Cape Air, but more importantly, she has been able to develop and grow employee and customer experiences to a level that has made Cape Air a model in the airline industry. I greatly look forward to continuing our work together as we explore opportunities for the organization, our associates and passengers.”

Markham adds, “I am honored to have been entrusted with this opportunity, and I am thrilled to continue guiding this organization alongside Dan. We share the philosophy that service and corporate culture are paramount, and that people are our most valuable asset.ย  If we continue to improve the employee experience, it will ultimately improve the customer experience.”

Upon her assumption of the new position, Markham will be the only female President of an airline in North America.

Now in its 24th year, Cape Air is one of the largest independent regional airlines in the United States annually flying over 700,000 passengers to destinations around the world including New England, New York, the Caribbean, Florida, the Midwest and Micronesia. With a fleet of sixty-six Cessna 402s and two ATR 42s, the employee-owned company operates up to 700 flights per day. JetBlue launches summer seasonal Boston-Nantucket flights today

JetBlue Airwaysย (New York) springs into summer today with inaugural seasonal service fromย Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) toย Nantucket Memorial Airportย (ACK). JetBlue will offer daily jet service to its 45th nonstop destination out of Logan through September 4.

In addition to JetBlue’s new seasonal service from Boston, daily nonstop flights between the airline’s home base at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport and two popular New England summer colonies โ€“ Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard โ€“ also begin today. Service from New York’s JFK to both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard will run daily throughout the summer. A second daily flight between JFK and Nantucket will be added beginning on June 21 through September 10, 2012.

In addition to this new seasonal nonstop service on JetBlue to Nantucket from Boston, JetBlue customers will continue to have year-round access to Nantucket and other Cape and Islands destinations through its partnership with Massachusetts-based airline Cape Air (Hyannis).

JetBlue’s flights from Boston to Nantucket will be operated with its 100-seat Embraer ERJ 190 fleet โ€“ the only jet service between the two cities.

Four airlines bid to replace Colgan Air in Maine

Cape Air (Hyannis Air Service dba) (Hyannis) has bid to replace Colgan Air only at Bar Harbor. Previously Colgan Air announced it would no longer be serving both Bar Harbor and Presque Isle.

Upstarts Air Choice One, Peninsula Airways and Sovereign Air have filed to serve both airports in Maine. The DOT will pick a carrier to operate the EAS services.

Cape Air (Hyannis) has ordered its first Tecnam P2012 Traveller as a possible replacement aircraft for its aging Cessna 402 fleet.

Cape Air launches new routes in Missouri, Maine and Anguilla

Cape Air (Hyannis) added new routes in December in Maine, Missouri and the British West Indies. Flights between San Juan, PR and Anguilla, BWI began on December 22. The addition of Anguilla complements Cape Air’s existing Caribbean service for San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Tortola, Vieques, Mayaguez and Ponce. Augusta, ME to Boston service began on December 1, while flights between Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and St. Louis, MO began on December 14. Augusta and Ft. Leonard Wood augment Cape Air’s current list of markets served under the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Essential Air Service (EAS) program, created to ensure smaller communities remain connected to the national air transportation system.

These three additions brings the total number of cities served by Cape Air to 39.

Cape Air dedicates a Cessna 402C for W Retreat & Spa on Vieques

Cape Air (Hyannis) has painted its Cessna 402C N2748Y (msn 402C-0248) in this special color scheme for the W Retreat and Spa on Vieques Island. This aircraft will be dedicated this winter to fly guests of the hotel to the resort and will only operate on the SJU-VQS route.

Cape Air (Hyannis) will add a new island destination in theย Caribbeanย with two daily flights between the Island of Anguilla with service toย San Juan, Puerto Ricoย beginning on December 22, 2010.

Cape Air and American launch a new marketing partnership

Cape Air (Hyannis) has launched a new marketing partnership withย American Airlines. ย Onย April 6, 2010, passengers will be able to use American Airlinesย tickets to fly between St. Louis (Lambert-St. Louis International Airport) andย Cape Girardeau, MO, Quincy, ILย andย Marion, ILย when connecting with anotherย American Airlinesย flight at St. Louis (STL).

American Airlinesย has placed its code on flights operated by Cape Air.
