Ethiopian flight from Addis Ababa to Los Angeles to transit via Lome

Ethiopian Airlines has announced that it has changed the ultra-long haul route from Addis Ababa to Los Angeles to transit through Lome, Togo as of December 17, 2018 and will start new route from Addis Ababa to Dublin via Madrid as of December 15, 2018.

The new route will be the only and first of its kind to connect West Africa with the West Coast of the USA with a direct flight.

The new route to LAX via LFW will be operated as per below schedule:

Ethiopian Airlines is coming to Chicago in June

Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) will launch a new route linking Addis Ababa with Chicago (O’Hare) starting on June 9, 2018. The new route will operate three days a week with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

On February 5, 2018, airline confirmed the new service with this announcement:

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the largest Aviation Holding Company in Africa and SKYTRAX certified Four Star Global Airline, is pleased to announce that it will commence nonstop flight from Addis Ababa to Chicago (O’Hare) effective as of June 9, 2018.

West Bound, Passengers from the entire continent of Africa will connect to Chicago and beyond through our Addis Ababa hub in the late evenings; likewise, East bound travelers from the USA will also connect to all over Africa in the morning through Addis. In both cases, the connectivity is designed in such a way that we are able to avail one of the shortest total travel times for our customers.

The route will be operated with a Boeing 787.

Ethiopian Airlines orders six more Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) today (June 17) announced an order for six 787-8 Dreamliner at the Paris Air Show. The order was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website.

The Dreamliners complement the airline’s existing 13 787s currently operating in the fleet and are part of Ethiopian’s long-term strategy to increase capacity and provide greater route flexibility to and from its hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Airlines is the first African operator of the 787. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 737, 757, 767, 777, and 787 airplanes in passenger service, and has 757, MD11, 777 and a 737-400F airplane in cargo operations.
