KLM and QANTAS sign a code-sharing agreement

"Orchid", delivered on March 29, 2018

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and QANTAS Airways, Australia’s national carrier, have signed a code-sharing agreement, allowing both airlines to expand their networks substantially.

For KLM passengers, this means they can fly from anywhere in the world, on a single ticket, with full baggage transfers, via Singapore to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth.

The code-share begins on October 31, 2018. KLM will attach its flight number to daily flights between Singapore and the four key Australian destinations listed above. QANTAS will attach its QF code to KLM flights between Amsterdam and Singapore.

“Orchid”, the twelfth Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for KLM arrives at Amsterdam

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on March 30 welcomed its twelfth Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with the registration PH-BHO, at Schiphol Airport. This morningย the aircraft arrivedย from Seattle (USA). It will bear the nameย Orchideeย โ€“ Dutch for โ€œOrchid.โ€

KLMโ€™s Dreamliners are named after flowers or flowering plants, a typical Dutch export product which suits KLM well. Other Boeing 787s have received names such asย Zonnebloemย (Sunflower),ย Anjerย (Carnation), Dahlia, Lavendel(Lavender), and Margriet (Daisy). The eleventh Dreamliner, delivered last January, bears the nameย Morgensterย (Morning Star).

KLM invests in fleet renewal

Once again in 2018, KLM will continue to invest in the renewal of its fleet to meet its customersโ€™ needs and wishes. The Orchidee is the second Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to arrive in 2018. KLM will take possession of its next Dreamliner in August.

The Boeing 787 creates less ambient noise, consumes less fuel, and gives off fewer carbon dioxide emissions. It brings us ever closer to our aim to reduce CO2ย emissions by 20% in 2020 compared to 2011. The Dreamliner is built mainly of carbon fibre composite which can be cut easily, so the manufacturing process creates less waste.

It also offers numerous advantages in terms of passenger comfort. The increased cabin air pressure helps passengers to arrive at their destination feeling well rested. And all passengers have access to WiFi during the flight.
