Silver Airways and Seaborne Airlines on April 23, 2018 announced that Silverโ€™s acquisition of Seaborneโ€™s business and assets has successfully been closed, creating a leading independent airline to serve the Caribbean, Bahamas, Florida, and beyond.

The acquisition brings together two strong independent airlines with similar SAAB 340B fleets, complementary route networks, and common codeshare/interline partners.

With the upcoming deployment of Silverโ€™s recently announced new fleet of state-of-the-art ATR 42-600s across both networks, the combined airline will have an expanded range, allowing it to better serve passengers and markets while creating more opportunities for employees and greater value for its business partners.

The combined airline will continue operating Silverโ€™s route network in the Bahamas, Florida, and beyond under the Silver Airways banner and Seaborneโ€™s route network throughout Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Caribbean under the Seaborne name.

The total fleet now consists of 31 aircraft, including SAAB 340s and de Havilland Twin Otter seaplane aircraft.

Steve Rossum of Silver Airways will serve as CEO of the combined airline. Ben Munson will resume his role as president of aviation consulting firm Embark Aviation, and continue as a valued advisor to the company.

The combined airline will employ nearly 1,000 aviation professionals and will be headquartered at Silver Airwaysโ€™ offices in Fort Lauderdale under the leadership of executives from both Silver and Seaborne.

Corporate and operations support functions will continue at locations in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, San Juan, and St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

NAC orders 15 additional ATR aircraft for Silver Airways

Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) is pleased to confirm that it has placed a firm order with ATR for 15 additional -600 series aircraft. The aircraft order, which marks NACโ€™s fourth with ATR since 2011, is particularly significant given that it commemorates the 100th new aircraft order that NAC has placed with the worldโ€™s leading regional aircraft manufacturer. It is further testament to the lessorโ€™s commitment to strengthening its position as the global leader in the regional aircraft leasing space.

The purchase from ATR comprises 15 aircraft, 12 ATR 42-600s and three ATR 72-600s. These aircraft will be placed with Silver Airways, along with four 42-600โ€™s and one 72-600 from NACโ€™s current orderbook. The first aircraft is due to deliver to Silver Airways in March 2018 with the remainder expected to deliver through to 2020. This order will bring NACโ€™s ATR fleet to over 200 aircraft and establishes NACโ€™s orderbook as the largest placed with any manufacturer to date.

NAC is delighted to include Silver Airways as a key member of its growing customer base and to further bolster the global footprint of its fleet. The brand-new ATR -600s will replace Silver Airwaysโ€™ existing fleet of 21 Saab 340B turboprops while increasing the frequency of main routes and opening new air services to destinations in Florida, the southern United States and Caribbean. Seaborne Airlines files for reorganization, signs agreement to be acquired by Silver Airways

Seaborne Airlines (San Juan) has released this statement:

Sea Star Holdings Inc., parent company for Seaborne Puerto Rico LLC, Seaborne Virgin Islands, Inc. and affiliates, announced the company has commenced a voluntary Chapter 11 reorganization proceeding under Title 11 of the US Code in order to implement new financing and a sale to affiliates of Silver Airways, LLC.

ATR 42-600 F-WWLY (msn 811) TLS (Eurospot). Image: 938888.

Silver Airways (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has announced several strategic developments that will enable its continued growth.

Upgraded Fleet

Silver announced a historic agreement by signing a letter of intent to renew and expand its fleet with up to 50 new ATR series aircraft. This is a significant strategic accomplishment for the airline and a transaction valued at up to $1.1 billion. The initial order is for 20 ATR 42-600 aircraft and the agreement also provides Silver the ability to upgauge to the larger series ATR-72-600s. With this deal, Silver becomes the first fully independent U.S. regional airline in more than 20 years to sign a new aircraft deal of this magnitude. The firm 20 aircraft will be lease financed by Silver.

Silver will take delivery of up to four ATRs this year starting in the fourth quarter following receipt of regulatory approvals. Remaining deliveries of the first 20 aircraft are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2020. Crew training will be conducted by ATR at its new training facility in Miami, which is home to a new multi-million-dollar investment of a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for the ATR 72-600 series aircraft.

New Leadership

Concurrent with the announcement of its upgraded fleet, Silver also has named Steven A. Rossum as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 7, 2017. Mr. Rossum replaces Sami Teittinen, who has decided to leave Silver for personal reasons. In addition, Jason Bewley, presently Executive Vice President of Commercial and CFO, has been promoted to President and Chief Financial Officer of Silver in recognition of his valuable contribution to bringing the company to this stage of development.

Potential Expansion into the Caribbean

Finally, Silver announced that it has entered into negotiations with Seaborne Airlines to explore commercial cooperation including potentially a combination in support of its long-term goal to become a major U.S. airline. Seaborne is a San Juan, Puerto Rico-based air carrier serving destinations throughout Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and other countries in the Caribbean. Seaborne provides connections throughout the Caribbean via the carrierโ€™s hub in San Juan, while also serving as the most critical link between St. Croix and St. Thomas with the carrierโ€™s seaplane operation.
