Air France (Paris) took delivery of the SkyTeam decorated Boeing 777-328 ER F-GZNE (msn 37432) on June 10.

Megantara Air (Jakarta) shut down all operations in early May 2009. Cargo operations began in October 2007 on the Jakarta-Singapore route for DHL International with a single Boeing 727-200F (PK-TMA). A 737-200F (PK-TME) was added in September 2007.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Dhaka) will lease two Boeing 777-200s from Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) and two 777-200s from SIngapore Airlines (Singapore) as an interim measure. The lease will be for three years with the first delivery in either May or June 2009. This will permit the company to phase out its four old McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30s. The flag carrier has four new 463-seat Boeing 777-300 ERs on order (the first is due in July 2013) as well as four 787-8 Dreamliners.

Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) yesterday (April 15) signed a preliminary agreement to join the SkyTeam Alliance in 2010. VN operates 64 routes to 20 domestic and 24 international destinations. SkyTeam’s membership will go back to 10 members as Continental Airlines is leaving the group on October 24, 2009. The airline has also received governmental approval to acquire 10 additional Airbus A321-200s.

QANTAS Airways (Sydney) has announced it will increase its share in Jetstar Asia (Singapore) and Valuair (Singapore) from 45 percent to 49 percent through a new holding company (Newstar). Choo Teck Wong, a businessman in Singapore, will hold the remaining 51 percent through his holding company (Westbrook).

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) has leased eight Boeing 737-800s from DAE Capital with the first deliveries starting in June 2009. ย The transaction is actually a sale and leaseback and the aircraft are the first eight of an order for 50 aircraft ordered by Garuda last year.
