Swoop celebrated its one-millionth traveller on a flight from Edmonton to Hamilton earlier this week. William and Emily Burchat were surprised to be selected as the lucky recipients of a round-trip for two on Swoop and a commemorative, Swoop branded, model aircraft. The pair were travelling to Hamilton with their twin infant daughters who were meeting their grandparents for the first time.

“It was an awesome experience. They were all super helpful, every single one of them,” said William of his first Swoop flight. “Their prices are cheap, but the quality isn’t. We save as much money as we can to give them (the twins) a better future. Every penny counts with them.”

“Both of us and the girls flew here for half the price it would have cost,” said Emily about why they chose Swoop. “We wouldn’t have been able to actually make the trip. It’s hard to travel as a family.”

A small Swoop team was on hand in Edmonton to kick-off the festivities, which included celebratory décor and refreshments at the gate. Travellers were encouraged to record their favourite travel stories at the Swoop Stories Video Booth to be shared on the Swoop social channels. Every traveller received an exclusive Swoop luggage tag, promo code and the hugely popular, Swoop piggy bank.

Swoop President Steven Greenway was waiting in Hamilton to surprise the millionth traveller.

“We suspected the millionth traveller would be flying this week, so we decided to have some fun and share the experience with an entire flight,” said Steven Greenway, President of Swoop. “After all, every traveller is equally as valued and we were eager to show our appreciation in a unique way.”

Swoop is a month shy of reaching one full-year of operation, having begun flights on June 20, 2018 with an initial fleet of three aircraft and a network of five Canadian cities. Since then, the airline has quickly expanded service to include 16 destinations across four countries. The Edmonton base has seen an exponential increase in weekly flights and now employs 104 Swoopsters. Hamilton has almost quadrupled its weekly flights since launch and currently employs 166 Swoopsters.

Swoop on May 24 is celebrating three inaugural routes as part of its 2019 summer schedule. The routes include service from London, ON to both Abbotsford and Halifax, as well as service between Winnipeg and Kelowna.

The day-long inaugural celebrations begin at Halifax Stanfield Airport (YHZ) where Swoop President, Steven Greenway will send-off the 10:20a.m. flight to London International Airport (YXU). Travellers at participating airports can take part in a gate celebration that includes refreshments, sweet treats, gifts and more.

“Not only does today highlight three new routes, but it is also the induction of Kelowna into our network,” said Steven Greenway, President of Swoop. “We are welcoming many first-time Swoop travellers this month and are encouraged by research showing that more than 94% of those who try us would fly Swoop again.”†

The inaugural-filled day concludes with a 9:46p.m. EST arrival at London International Airport (YXU) from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX).

To round-out the summer schedule, Swoop looks forward to celebrating two more routes between Edmonton and Orlando on June 1, 2019 and between Kelowna and Las Vegas on June 27, 2019.

Details of Swoop’s May 24 inaugural service

Swoop has announced new service between Kelowna, BC and Las Vegas, NV. The twice weekly service from Kelowna International Airport (YLW) to McCarran International Airport (LAS) begins June 27, 2019 through October 26, 2019.

Swoop announced its arrival to Kelowna International Airport in January of this year when it introduced flights between Kelowna and Winnipeg three-times-a-week beginning May 24, 2019, as part of its summer schedule.

Swoop has released its full summer schedule with nonstop flights available for booking from April 28, 2019 through October 26, 2019. Along with three new destinations of London ON, Kelowna BC and Oakland CA, the schedule boasts five new domestic markets, two new transborder markets and an extension of two international routes.

The new domestic markets include service between London and Halifax six times per week and daily service from London to/from Abbotsford and Edmonton. Service between Kelowna and Winnipeg will be offered three times a week. The schedule also sees the return of the seasonal route between Abbotsford and Winnipeg four times per week.

Edmonton will enjoy increased transborder capacity with thrice-weekly flights to/from Oakland and a weekly flight to/from Orlando.

Internationally, Swoop will continue its Hamilton service to Montego Bay and Cancun, with a weekly return flight throughout the summer.

Amongst the routes that will end for the summer are Hamilton to Puerto Vallarta and Tampa Bay, and Abbotsford to Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán. Edmonton to Mesa will take a short hiatus and suspend service at the end of May before resuming October 5, 2019.

Swoop celebrates its inaugural flight from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) today. Swoop flight WO600 departs from Abbotsford at 12:20 p.m. PST and arrives in Puerto Vallarta at 7:02 p.m. CST.

This marks Swoop’s second inaugural flight to Puerto Vallarta this week, the first from Hamilton, Ontario on January 8, 2019.  Travellers can also enjoy flights from Hamilton to Cancun beginning January 14, 2019 and Abbotsford to Mazatlán beginning January 20, 2019.

Flights are now available for booking through to April 27, 2019.
