ExpressJet Airlines,ย a United Express carrier, began assigning pilots to its Embraer E175 aircraft base of operations at Chicago OโHareInternational Airport, in advance of a January 1, 2020 open.
The E175 base will be in addition to ExpressJetโs existing ERJ145 pilot, flight attendant, and maintenance bases in Chicago.
This is ExpressJetโs second E175 base, after the first base opened at Houstonโs George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

United Airlines has announced tickets for its newest regional fleet member, the Bombardier CRJ550, will be available for purchase starting Saturday, October 12 for travel beginning Sunday, October 27. The initial schedule includes 15 cities from Chicago O’Hare.

Embraer announced today, at the 53rd International Paris Air Show, that it has signed a contract with United Airlines for up to 39 E175s. The order comprises 20 firm aircraft and 19 options in a 70-seat configuration. The order has a value of $1.9 billion, based on Embraerโs current list prices, with all options being exercised. The firm order will be included on Embraerโs 2019 second-quarter backlog.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020. These aircraft will replace older 70-seat aircraft currently operated by Unitedโs regional partners.
Including this new contract, Embraer has sold more than 585 E175s to airlines in North America since January 2013, earning more than 80% of all orders in this 70-76-seat jet segment. Embraer is the worldโs leading manufacturer of commercial aircraft up to 150 seats with more than 100 customers from all over the world. For the E-Jets program alone, Embraer has logged more than 1,800 orders and 1,500 aircraft have been delivered. Today, E-Jets are flying in the fleet of 75 customers in 50 countries. The versatile 70 to 150-seat family is flying with low-cost airlines as well as with regional and mainline carriers.

ExpressJet Airlines, a United Express carrier, on June 13, 2019 began service with its newest aircraft type โ the Embraer E175.
The first flight, UA4042 departed Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
ExpressJet is adding 25 new E175s to its fleet in 2019. To date, the airline has taken delivery of four E175s and will continue adding new aircraft throughout the year. Additionally, ExpressJet recently expanded its crew training capabilities with the addition of an E175 full-motion flight simulator and a cabin door trainer at its Houston Training Complex.
To support its rapid growth, ExpressJet has hired more than 350 new pilots since the start of the year and will double that number by year end.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) representing United Express carrier Air Wisconsin flight attendants has petitioned the National Mediation Board for a proffer of arbitration/release from mediation, which could start the clock for a potential flight attendant strike 30 days later.
โEnough! Flight Attendants are living in poverty while airlines are making billions off their backs,โ said AFA International President Sara Nelson. โThe aviation scam of the century is undervaluing Flight Attendants and other workers at regionals who provide the backbone service of mainline networks. The Air Wisconsin story is among the worst example of this with first year flight attendants making as little as $15,000 a year and others who have gone without a raise for 12 years are no longer able to keep up. Flight attendants have voted 99 percent to strike, if necessary, and today we are formally requesting a release from mediation to move these negotiations to conclusion. This is our number one contract fight.”
In a letter submitted to the National Mediation Board (NMB), AFA said it believes a proffer of arbitration and release from mediation is necessary to move the parties to agreement. The next step under the statute is a 30-day cooling-off period that ends with a strike deadline.
Today, Air Wisconsin flight attendants are demonstrating at Washington Dulles International Airport. They are joined by AFA union leaders, flight attendants from across the country and labor allies in the region.
โWhat happens at one airline, affects us all and Flight Attendants across the industry are standing with Air Wisconsin Flight Attendants for a fair contract,โ Nelson stated.
Flight attendant negotiations at Air Wisconsin have been overseen by the National Mediation Board since 2017. In November 2018, Air Wisconsin flight attendants voted by 99 percent to authorize a strike. AFA has a trademarked strike strategy known as CHAOS or Create Havoc Around Our Systemโข. With CHAOS, a strike could affect the entire system, a single airport, or a single flight. The union decides when, where and how to strike without notice to management or passengers.
Air Wisconsin is a regional airline, headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin operating CRJ-200 regional jets. Air Wisconsin previously operated as an American Eagle regional air carrier. As of March 2018, Air Wisconsin operates exclusively as a United Express regional air carrier.

ExpressJet Airlines, a United Express carrier, this week took delivery of its first of 25 new Embraer E175 aircraft (N601UX) in a handover ceremony at the Embraer factory and delivery center in Sรฃo Josรฉ dos Campos, Brazil.
ExpressJet will take delivery of new E175s through the remainder of 2019. Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will serve as the airline’s first E175 base, with a second base location to be announced soon.

ExpressJet Airlines, a United Express carrier, today announced that it is welcoming Australian pilots to join in its growth by introducing a new E-3 Visa Program. The program allows Australian pilots to live in the U.S. while flying for ExpressJet. ExpressJet is hiring more than 600 pilots as it grows with 25 new Embraer E175 aircraft in 2019.
Pilots who participate in ExpressJet’s E-3 Program will complete training at the airline’s Houston, Texas, training complex, where the airline has its own E175 and ERJ145 full-motion flight simulators. Training is paid and single-occupancy hotel accommodations are provided.
After training, pilots will be based at one of ExpressJet’s five domiciles (Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; Knoxville, Tennessee; Houston, Texas; Newark, New Jersey) and may choose to live in base or the city of their choice by using flight and airline jumpseat privileges to travel to base.
E-3 Program pilots are eligible for ExpressJet’s $22,000 new-hire bonus and an additional $5,000bonus for an eligible type rating. In addition, pilots are eligible for ExpressJet’s health and wellness insurance plans and have access to travel privileges on United Airlines and other participating, global carriers. E-3 Program participants will also have access to a company liaison to help navigate their new careers in the U.S.

ManaAir, LLC, on January 22, 2019 announced the successful completion of its acquisition of ExpressJet Airlines. ExpressJet flies for United Airlines as a United Express carrier.
In 2019, ExpressJet will grow its fleet with 25 new dual-class Embraer E175 aircraft. The first delivery is scheduled for April.
In other news,ย ExpressJet Airlines today announced that it is increasing its pilot sign-on bonus to $22,000. Pilots with an eligible type rating will receive an additional $5,000. The increase makes ExpressJet pilots some of the most highly compensated among regional airline pilots.

SkyWest, Inc. today announced that it is has entered into definitive agreements to sell ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. to ManaAir, LLC, a company in which United Airlines owns a minority interest.
The transaction is expected to close in early 2019, subject to customary closing conditions.
Consideration for the transaction includes approximately $70 million in cash for the majority of the assets and the assumption of liabilities of ExpressJet, subject to a working capital adjustment. The ExpressJet assets excluded from the transaction will be utilized or liquidated by SkyWest. The expected realizable value to SkyWest of the remaining inventory is estimated to approximate the value of the working capital adjustment. SkyWest will retain ownership of the CRJ aircraft currently in service at ExpressJet.
The transaction also includes certain protections around existing SkyWest Airlines flying, as well as priority position to add 25 new dual-cabin aircraft with United should those opportunities arise.
As part of the transaction, SkyWest has also agreed to lease 20 CRJ200s to ExpressJet for up to five years.
