United Airlines-Continental Airlines (Chicago) received a setback on their desire to place the CO code on United Express aircraft with 70-seats. The pilots, represented by ALPA, prevailed in arbitration decision.

Continental Airlines (Houston) became the first U.S.-based carrier to fly with the new Sky Interior. Continental’s Boeing 737-824 N76529 (msn 31652) is also painted in the new (old) United Airlines (Continental) livery.
Continental took deliver of N76529 yesterday. Wednesday’s flight marks completion of 13 deliveries to the first five launch customers for the innovative 737 Boeing Sky Interior. The airplane also marks a new record for 737 yearly deliveries of 376. The previous record was 372 deliveries in 2009.
The 737 Boeing Sky Interior is part of Boeing’s strategy to continuously improve the 737 for both airlines and passengers by making it more efficient and economical to operate and maintain and more comfortable for passengers. Today’s Next-Generation 737 operators fly 737s that are 5 percent more fuel-efficient than the first Next-Generation 737s delivered in 1998, and another 2 percent improvement is on the way.
In mid-November, another 737-800, also in the new United Airlines livery, successfully completed an early flight test to begin certification of the aerodynamic and engine changes that will result in the 2 percent improvement. Testing and certification will continue throughย April 2011. Boeing is phasing into production the performance improvement package, beginning in mid-2011 through early 2012.
One percent of the savings comes from reducing resistance as air flows around the airplane. The upper and lower anti-collision lights change from round to a more aerodynamic, elongated teardrop shape. Wheel-well fairings are re-contoured to smooth the air flow near the main landing gear. A redesign of the environmental control system, exhaust vent and streamlined wing slat and spoiler trailing edges round out the aerodynamic changes.
CFM is introducing the new CFM56-7BE engine enhancement program to coincide with Boeing’s airframe changes. Low- and high-pressure turbine modifications will result in a 1 percent reduction in fuel consumption. In addition, Boeing is optimizing the engine’s primary nozzle and plug. Together, the changes result in cooler-running engines that may provide up to 4 percent lower maintenance costs.
Deliveries to Continental Airlines of Boeing aircraft had been delayed as a result of an escalating controversy surrounding seat manufacturer Koito Industries.

Continental Airlines (Houston) and Spanair (Barcelona), both members of Star Alliance, yesterday announced they will begin codesharing on flights across the Atlantic and to destinations in Spain and Africa.
Effective on January 4, 2011, Continental will place its “CO” code on selected Spanair-operated flights between Barcelona and the following destinations: Alicante, Bilbao, Madrid, Malaga, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia, Spain; and Banjul, Gambia. The airline will also place its “CO” code on selected Spanair-operated flights between Madrid and the following destinations in Spain: Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Ibiza, La Coruna, Las Palmas, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and Valencia. Subject to government approval, Continental will also place its “CO” code on Spanair-operated flights between Barcelona and Nador, Morocco.
At the same time, Spanair will place its “JK” code on Continental-operated daily non-stop flights between Newark and both Barcelona and Madrid.

Continental Airlines (Houston) has announced new daily nonstop service to Hilo, Hawaii, from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and once-weekly service to Hilo from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) beginning on June 9, 2011.
Continental will utilize a 160-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the new routes, with 16 seats in first class and 144 seats in economy.

Continental Airlines (Houston) and one of its mechanics were convicted by a French court. The company and the mechanic were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for their part in the 2000 Air France Concorde crash at Paris (CDG). Continental is appealing the ruling.

United Continental Holdings, Inc. (Chicago) announced that Continental Airlines (Houston) has reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) representing Continental fleet service employees. The IBT is expected to hold a ratification vote in the coming weeks.
The agreement covers approximately 7,000 Continental fleet service employees located throughout the United States.

Continental Airlines (Houston) has announced that it will begin daily nonstop flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and West Palm Beach (PBI) and between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood on February 17, 2011.
The new flights complement Continental’s existing service to Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood and West Palm Beach from its hubs at Newark, Houston and Cleveland.
The new routes will be operated with Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 ER aircraft.

ANA (All Nippon Airways) (Tokyo), United Airlines (Chicago) and Continental Airlines (Houston) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued its final order granting anti-trust immunity enabling the three carriers to execute a trans-Pacific joint venture under which they intend to jointly develop flight schedules and sales activities.
Customers traveling between the Americas and Asia will enjoy more convenient flight schedules, with a broader range of fare and product options, once the joint venture is implemented.

Continental Airlines (Houston), a wholly owned subsidiary of United Continental Holdings, Inc. (Chicago), will inaugurate a fifth daily flight from its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport on October 30. The airline also operates two daily flights from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, its largest hub, to Heathrow.
The additional flight offers Continental customers a new late-evening departure from New York/Newark, while the westbound schedule now features an early-morning departure from Heathrow.
