Hong Kong Airlines to launch service to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on March 17

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) has announced it will launch a three-time weekly service between Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam.

From March 17, Hong Kong Airlines will deploy an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft on the route, which will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The new service to Ho Chi Minh City is complimented by the airlines’ daily flight to Hanoi, bringing it to a total of 10 weekly flights between Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) today (December 10) introduced its first Airbus A330-300 into revenue service on the Hong Kong-Beijing route per Airline Route.

Hong Kong Airlines to drop the London Gatwick route on September 10, will concentrate on the Asian market

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) has confirmed it will discontinue the Business Class Hong Kong-London (Gatwick) route on September 10. The carrier added the route only in March 2012. The airline will concentrate on regional routes in Asia.

Hong Kong Airlines launches its Club Class flights to London Gatwick

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) launched its new “Club Class” service to London (Gatwick) on March 7. The new route is operated with Airbus A330-200s.

According to the airline, the new service depends on “a dedicated fleet of brand new Airbus A330-200 aircraft has been specially configured with just 116 seats in two business class cabins, Club Premier and Club Classic, allowing guests onboard to enjoy Hong Kong Airlines’ acclaimed signature service and an altogether sophisticated flying experience.”

Hong Kong Airlines is coming under pressure to cancel its order for 10 Airbus A380s

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) is coming under political pressure to cancel its order for 10 new Airbus A380s due to the Chinese opposition to the European carbon emissions fee which into affect on January 1. China has told Chinese airlines to oppose the fee. So far Airbus is planning to deliver the aircraft.

Hong Kong Airlines takes delivery of its first Airbus A320

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) has become a new operator of Airbus single aisle aircraft, following the delivery of its first A320. The aircraft is the first of 30 A320s ordered by the airline and is powered by CFM International’s CFM 56 engines. Seating 152 passengers in two classes, the A320s will be operated across the carrier’s regional network, linking Hong Kong with destinations in mainland China, and North and South East Asia.

Hong Kong Airlines has also taken delivery of its latest long range A330-200, featuring a new all-premium class layout. With luxurious accommodation for just 116 passengers, the aircraft will be used to launch new non-stop services to London. The delivery increases the carrier’s in-service  widebody fleet to 10 aircraft, comprising seven A330-200 passenger aircraft and three A330-200F freighters.

Hong Kong Airlines wins rights to fly to Taiwan, confirms starting dates

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) announced on December 30, 2011 that the company had received allocation of traffic rights between Hong Kong and Taiwan by Transport and Housing Bureau of the HKSAR Government. In accordance with the provisions of the Air Services Arrangement.

Hong Kong Airlines can operate passenger and all-cargo services to Taipei and Kaohsiung with immediate effect. Hong Kong Airlines will launch four daily passenger flights and all-cargo services with 650 tonnes per week on Taipei or Kaohsiung routes, starting to operate in the first quarter of 2012.

The airline has now confirmed it will start daily flights from Hong Kong to Taipei (Taoyuan) (with Airbus A330-200s) and Hong Kong-Kaohsiung (six flights a week with Boeing 737-800s) on March 1.

In addition the Chinese carrier is launching daily Hong Kong-Nanjing (China) service also on March 1.

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) will drop the three-times-a-week route linking Hong Kong with Moscow (Sheremetyevo) on January 16 per Airline Route.

Hong Kong Airlines orders 10 Airbus A380s

Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) as expected, has finally placed an order for 10 Airbus A380s. A formal announcement from Airbus is expected for January 17. This will bring Airbus’ A380 backlog to 188 airframes.

The airline was founded as CR Airways by Robert Yip on March 28, 2001 and began helicopter passenger charter operations with a Sikorsky S-76C+ helicopter. It was Hong Kong’s first helicopter operator to receive an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) since the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was established. Mainland Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines and Mr Mung Kin Keung took over the airline in 2006 by acquiring a 45 percent and 55 percent holdings in the airline, respectively. The airline officially changed its name to Hong Kong Airlines Limited on November 28, 2006 and introduced a new logo representing a bauhinia flower, a Hong Kong native flower.

Hong Kong Airlines prepares to accept its first Airbus A320
