Thai Tiger Airways is born in Thailand

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) and a domestic partner will own 51 percent of Thai Tiger Airways Pte (Bangkok) which will commence low-fare operations in March 2011. Tiger Airways Holdings (Singapore) will own 49 percent of the new LCC. Thai Tiger Airways will fly domestic and international routes with Airbus A320s of up to five hours. The new joint venture is designed to go after rival Thai AirAsia. It is unclear what will happen to Nok Air in which Thai owns 39 percent.

Thai Airways International signs MOU for seven additional Airbus A330-300s

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of seven more A330-300s. The aircraft will be delivered from the end of 2011 and will join an existing fleet of 20 A330-300s flying to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region.

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) has received board approval to order seven new Airbus A330-300s and eight Boeing 777-300 ERs according the WSJ.

Jet Airways to dry lease three Boeing 777-300 ERs to Thai Airways International

Jet Airways (Mumbai) will dry lease three Boeing 777-300 ER (Extended Range) aircraft for three years to Thai Airways International (Bangkok).

Thai Airways International to turn over three domestic routes to Nok Air

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) is ending its estranged relationship with Nok Air (Bangkok) and will turn over three domestic routes to the low-cost carrier on March 1, 2010. Thai owns 39 percent of the Nok shares.

Southern Air to operate two 777Fs for Thai

Southern Air (2nd) (Norwalk and Anchorage) will operated two Boeing 777F long-range freighters for ย Thai Airways International (Bangkok) from BKK to Europe starting in early 2010. On July 30, 2007 Southern Air was acquired by Oak Hill Partners and it was merged with Cargo 360 forming Southern Air Holdings. At the time Oak Hill Capital Partners anticipated Southern Air would soon operate a fleet of six Boeing 777F freighters for its ACMI operations. Southern Air is also intending to operate the new 747-800F in the future. Southern Air currently operates a fleet of Boeing 747-200F and 747-300F freighters.

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) will return to Abu Dhabi on October 26 when it returns with four-times-a-week Airbus A330-300 service from Bangkok.

Thai to consolidate operations at Suvarnabhumi

Thai Airways International (Bangkok) has decided that operating at Bangkok’s two airports is too expensive. Thai will move its 23 domestic flights from Don Muenang to the newer Suvarnabhumi on March 29, 2009 and consolidate all operations at this airport.
