The first Airbus A350 for Vietnam Airlines enters the final assembly at Toulouse

Airbus (Toulouse) has issued this update and photo of the first A350-941 (msn 014) for Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi).

Final assembly of the first A350 XWB for Vietnam Airlines has begun at the Roger Bรฉteille Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Toulouse, France.

Scheduled for delivery in mid-2015, the aircraft will see Vietnam Airlines become the first Asian airline to fly the A350 XWB and the second operator in the world of the all-new, fuel-efficient widebody.

Vietnam Airlines has a total of 10 A350 XWB on order. The aircraft will be operated on the carrierโ€™s premium long range services.

Air Lease Corporation orders 8 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for Vietnam Airlines

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) announced today the following transactions covering 11 twin aisle aircraft and two single aisle aircraft including:

  • The purchase of eight new Boeing 787-9 aircraft for lease to Vietnam Airlines. Deliveries of the eight 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft are scheduled for 2017 and 2018. This transaction marks ALC’s longest lead time for a lease placement to date.
  • The purchase from Macquarie Aviation of one Boeing 777-300 ER on long term lease to Emirates (a new customer for ALC).
  • One incremental A330-200 on long term lease to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines delivering in 2013.
  • One A330-300 from the ALC pipeline on long term lease to Sichuan Airlines delivering in 2013. Sichuan airlines also executed a four year extension on one A319 aircraft currently on lease from ALC.
  • One Embraer 190 from the ALC pipeline leased to LAM (Mozambique) delivering in 2012.

Vietnam Airlines to commence two new Chinese routes from Danang

Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) is planning to start twice-weekly service from Danang to both Beijing and Ghangzhou according to Airline Route. The new routes will be operated with Airbus A321s.

Vietnam Airlines joins the SkyTeam Alliance

Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) officially joined the SkyTeam global airline alliance today (June 10).

As part of the joining ceremony in Hanoi, attended by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, senior government officials and representatives from SkyTeam member airlines, Vietnam Airlines unveiled its first aircraft in the SkyTeam livery to commemorate its membership in the alliance.

Vietnam Airlines to add Shanghai on March 29

Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) will add new Airbus A321 service from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Shanghai starting on March 29. The new route will be operated three days a week.

Cambodia Angkor Air launches operations

Cambodia Angkor Air (Phnom Penh) today (July 27) as planned launched scheduled passenger services to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat), Sihanoukville and Ho Chi Minh City with two ATR 72s operated by Vietnam Airlines in the joint venture. The colors are lavender and gold.

Cambodia’s latest flag carrier: Cambodia Angkor

Cambodia Angkor Air (Phnom Penh) is Cambodia’s latest attempt to have a successful flag carrier. This new attempt is a joint venture between the government of Cambodia and Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi). The airline will start scheduled operations on July 27 from the new Preah Sihanouk International Airport (formerly named the Kang Keng Airport) to Siem Reap with two ATR 72s leased from Vietnam. However the airline is expected to operate Airbus A320s and A321s later this year to international destinations.
