SkyWest and Eve announce partnership to develop regional operator network with an order for 100 eVTOL aircraft

Eve Air Mobility (Eve), an Embraer company, and SkyWest, Inc., announced today a Memorandum of Understanding and non-binding Letter of Intent for SkyWest to purchase 100 of Eve’s electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL). The partnership will focus on developing a network of deployment throughout the United States.

SkyWest and Eve have also committed to develop a portfolio of services-based capabilities to optimize eVTOL performance in key early adopter cities that will be prioritized for initial Urban Air Mobility operations. To support this effort, SkyWest and Eve plan to dedicate a team to focus on vehicle design, vertiport specifications, and the certification roadmap for eVTOL operations.

SkyWest has been an Embraer partner since 1986, bringing together the world’s largest regional airline operator and the world’s leading regional aircraft manufacturer. SkyWest, which operates Embraer’s commercial aircraft for major airline operators, chose Eve as its Urban Air Mobility partner due to its long record for certifying trusted aircraft for over 52 years. In addition to SkyWest’s LOI for 100 aircraft, both companies have agreed to form a working group to jointly evaluate the utilization of Eve’s next generation air traffic management and fleet operating solutions as the Urban Air Mobility industry prepares to scale over the next decade.

JetBlue extends London Heathrow schedule through October 2022

JetBlue Airways today announced it is extending its transatlantic schedule for flights between New Yorkโ€™s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) through October 2022.

JetBlue was initially welcomed at Heathrow with temporary slots made available as entrenched, larger airlines reduced service during the pandemic. Since its successful transatlantic launch in August 2021, JetBlue has worked with the local authorities to ensure it can continue to shake up the route with much-needed competition.

Before JetBlue launched the route, travelers were limited to expensive flights between JFK andย Heathrow, especially in the premium travel segment. JetBlue has set out to do what it does best โ€“ offer better service than the incumbent carriers while stimulating competition with low fares. Since launching the route in August, JetBlue has reduced premium fares by up to 50%.

Schedule betweenย New Yorkย (JFK) and London Heathrow (LHR)

JFK – LHR Flight #007

LHR – JFK Flight #20

9:38 p.m. โ€“ 10:05 a.m. (+1)

2:00 p.m. โ€“ 5:08 p.m.

SAS’ brand new Airbus A321LR enters service

SAS’ first Airbus A321LR Long Range will complete its first long-haul flight on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from Copenhagen to Washington (Dulles(. It will enter official service on March 27, 2022.

The new aircraft is equipped with a service concept with three travel classes, like the rest of SASโ€™ long-haul fleet, and will increase SASโ€™ flexibility to meet Scandinavian travel patterns. The A321LR is part of SASโ€™ ongoing fleet renewal and will reduce climate-impacting emissions in comparison to previous generations of similar aircraft.

This narrow-body, single aisled aircraft is specially configured to fly longer distances than a standard A321neo. The smaller aircraft gives SAS the opportunity to fill the aircraft on new routes and will be a welcome addition to the SAS long haul fleet. The A321LR will increase the SASโ€™ flexibility to adjust to changes in the demand for new routes and destinations.

Photographer Andy Prhat

The A321LR is part of the latest generation of aircraft and is expected to reduce climate-impacting emissions by around the same amount as when SAS introduced the A320neo, whose carbon footprint is approximately 15-18 percent smaller than an equivalent size aircraft from the previous generation.

Photographer Andy Prhat

SAS’ new A321LR completed its first flight for SAS on December 20, 2021 between Copenhagen and Oslo. It will officially enter service on March 27, 2022 and is planned to operate on routes from Copenhagen to Washington, Boston and New York.

Airbus A321LR
The aircraft has 22 Business, 12 Plus and 123 Go, meaning a total of 157 seats in a single aisle aircraft. The seats are especially chosen for the A321LR to optimize the comfort in all three travel classes to meet the expectations of frequent travelers. Seats in SAS Business are fully flat seat beds and there are different mood light scenarios in the cabins, as well as Hi-speed Wi-Fi. Every seat is equipped with IFE screens, PC-power and/or Hi-power USB. The reduced noise level inside the cabin will further enhance the travel experience onboard.

Boeing today announced an order for 19 767 Freighters from UPS highlighting the 767 Freighter’s outstanding operational efficiency and payload capability to serve its customers at a time of robust air cargo demand.

The deal adds to a record-breaking year for Boeing freighter sales, including 80 firm orders for new widebody freighters and more than 80 orders for Boeing Converted Freighters. In 2021 air cargo demand has surged due to an expansion of e-commerce and express cargo markets.

Based on the 767-300ER (Extended Range) passenger jet, the 767 Freighter carries up to 52.4 tons of revenue cargo with intercontinental range, serving as a flexible platform for long-haul, regional and feeder markets. UPS was the launch customer for the 767 Freighter in 1995, and since then has ordered a total of 91 of the aircraft. The carrier currently operates 236 Boeing freighters including the 747, 757, 767 and MD-11.
