CityJet will be merged with InterSky

CityJet (Dublin and London-City) is currently owned by the Air France-KLM Group and is for sale. As previously reported, last month the group announced Intro Aviation GmbH, of which Hans Rudolf Woehrl is a co-founder, made an offer pending finalization to acquire CityJet as well as its subsidiary VLM Airlines. The deal is expected to close in this quarter.

Now German aviation investor Hans Rudolf Woehrl says he wants to merge CityJet with InterSky Lufthfahrt (Bregenz, Austria and Friedrichshafen, Germany) according to this report by Reuters. Intro Aviation controls 74.9 percent of the InterSky stock.

Woehrl wants the merged new carrier to serve regional routes that will not upset the major carriers.

InterSky Luftfahrt (Bregenz and Friedrichshafen) on January 8 took delivery of their first ATR 72-600 aircraft ordered in 2012. This is also the first ATR aircraft that will fly in the livery of an Austrian airline.

The new aircraft was welcomed at Friedrichshafen Airport, the company’s main operating base, strategically situated in the southernmost part of Germany. Although headquartered in Bregenz, Austria, InterSky benefits from the proximity of the Friedrichshafen Airport to both Swiss and Austrian borders allowing the airline to conveniently serve many commuters and business travelers from the Alpine regions.

The special delivery ceremony was witnessed by Friedrichshafen’s District Administrator Lothar Wölfle and the City Mayor Andreas Brand. The second ATR 72-600 ordered by InterSky is scheduled for delivery in March this year, with the aircraft entering service on routes to key regional destinations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

InterSky was founded in 2002 by Renate Moser and Rolf Seewald and has been successful for the last 11 years. In February 2012, INTRO Group of the German entrepreneur Hans Rudolf Wöhrl became a 51% shareholder of the company. For the time being, InterSky serves the regional sector connecting the Lake Constance area to German cities like Berlin, Dusseldorf and Hamburg, but also from Austria’s Vienna and Graz to Zurich. In the summertime the destinations Elba (out of Friedrichshafen, Munich, Zürich, Bergamo and Geneva), Olbia, Split, Zadar and Pula are also part of the schedule. With the purchase of two new ATR 72-600s the fleet will grow up to five aircraft, additionally to the current three Bombardier DHC 8-300s.
