Aerolineas Argentinas is coming to Punta Cana

Aerolineas Argentinas (Buenos Aires) will add Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on January 3, 2015 via Caracas per Airline Route. The new route will be operated three days a week with Boeing 737-800s.

The airline will also serve Havana via Caracas starting on January 5, 2015.

Sunwing Airlines to start Ottawa-St. Petersburg/Clearwater flights on December 18

Sunwing Airlines (Toronto) will start weekly (on Thursdays) nonstop Ottawa-St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida (Tampa Bay) flights on December 18 with 189-seat Boeing 737-800s.

Cuba Travel Services announces Miami-Holquin charter flights

Cuba Travel Services is now offering nonstop flights from Miami to Holguin, Cuba. Cuba Travel Services arranges flights operated by American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) and Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) to popular destinations including Havana, Cienfuegos, Camaguey, Santa Clara and Santiago de Cuba.

Cuba Travel Services believes that expanding its network will provide its clients with a high quality of service at a more competitive price. The new flights to Holguin will utilize next generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which include both first and coach class configuration.

Eurocypria Airlines and Cyprus Airways to be merged

Eurocypria Airlines’ (Larnaca) days are probably numbered. The Cyprus government is moving ahead with plans to merge its state-controlled Cyprus Airways (Larnaca) with state-owned charter airline Eurocypria. Both airlines have been losing money. A a new chairman is expected to be announced within the next few days. Cyprus has an Airbus fleet and Eurocypria has a Boeing fleet. The Eurocypria brand is likely to disappear.

Eurocypria was established on March 25, 1992 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Cyprus Airways as the first Cyprus-based charter airline. Operations began on June 6, 1992 with two new Airbus A320s. Since then the airline has added Boeing 737-800s.

Sun Country Airlines completes first Boeing 737-800 charter flight to Hawaii

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) on Tuesday (June 22) conducted its first trans-Pacific flight in charter service from Phoenix to Honolulu. Touching down in Hawaii the Boeing 737-800 crew were greeted with a traditional gift of Hawaiian Leis welcoming Sun Country to the 50th state.

Sun Country operated the flights in scheduled and charter service utilizing procedures and equipment specifically designated for Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance (ETOPs).

As previously reported, Sun Country flew its first trans-Atlantic trip in scheduled service from Minneapolis/St. Paul to London’s Stansted airport on June 11. The one-stop seasonal service will operate weekly through August 15 between the Twin Cities and London with Boeing 737-800s.

Sun Country Airlines now flies to London with Boeing 737s

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul), as planned, started flying weekly charter flights to London (Stansted) via Gander on Friday (June 11). The flights will operate with its Boeing 737-800s through August 15.

Globespan Airways (flyglobespan.com) (Edinburgh) quickly put its Boeing 737-8BK G-CEJP (msn 29646) back into revenue service in May after the lease ended with Oman Air (Muscat). The result is this interesting hybrid livery.

Sun Country Airlines (MN Airlines LLC dba) (Minneapolis/St. Paul) reported a first quarter net profit of $8.1 million. This is a reversal of a net loss of $8.3 million in the same period a year ago.

Air Azul to start Melbourne-Newark charters

Air Azul (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) will start twice-weekly public charter flights between Melbourne, FL and Newark on June 10. Fares will start at $79 one-way and will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights will be operated by Sun Country Airlines.
