Surinam Airways (Paramaribo) will acquire an ex-Air France Airbus A340-311 (msn 049, ex F-GLZG) later this month to replace its Boeing 747-306 PZ-TCM (msn 23508).

Cathay Pacific to park six aircraft by December

Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) is planning to park up to six passenger aircraft by the end of the year. One Airbus A340-300 has already been parked. Another Boeing 747-400 will also be parked. Five freighters are already stored. Traffic is down by 27 percent.

Swiss and Nuremberg celebrate 30 years

Swiss A340-300 HB-JMN (01)(Grd) NUE (GM)(LR)Swiss A340-300 HB-JMN (01)(Salute) NUE (GM)(LR)Swiss International Air Lines (Zurich) sent its Airbus A340-313X HB-JMN (msn 175) to Nuremberg yesterday (July 2) to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the ZRH-NUE route. The route was started on July 2, 1979 with a Metroliner II of the company when it was called Crossair. The Airbus received the customary water cannon salute on arrival.

Virgin Atlantic Airways (London) according to the BBC and unnamed sources will sell its 49 percent share of Virgin Nigeria Airways (Lagos) as the partnership has lately gone in the wrong direction. According to the report, Virgin Nigeria has until early July to rebrand itself. In essence this is the end of Virgin Nigeria Airways which commenced operations on June 28, 2005.

Olympic Airlines (Athens) will be sold to the Marfin Investment Group despite a higher bid by Aegean Airlines (Athens). The government of Greece rejected the Aegean bid and is now finalizing the deal with Marfin.
