A website claims French military shot down A310

SABA, Yemen’s official news agency, is quoting an unknown website named Almotamar that claims French warships engaging in military exercises near the Comoros Islands mistakenly shot down the crashed Yemenia Airbus A310-304 7O-ADJ (msn 535) on June 30, 2009. 7O-ADJ was operating flight IY 626 between Sana’a and Moroni in the Comoros Islands. The official investigation continues and this report cannot be collaborated with any other reliable sources.

JAL’s task force submits restructuring plan

JAL-Japan Airlines’ (Tokyo-Haneda) today (October 14) received the government-ledย task force proposal. ย The plan proposes the followingย restructuring plan. It includes the following:

– replace all current executives
– cut over 9,000 employees
– cut pension payments by 50 percent
– ask banks to forget JPY300 billion of debt
– raise JPY150 billion through debt-equity swaps
– spin off subsidiaries
– cut all unprofitable routes

The plan still not has been ratified, and thingsย like pensions need to be approved by the retiree’sย union. ย The debt also needs to be renegotiated with the banks. ย Either way JAL will be a much smaller airline and group.

Uzbekistan Airways (Tashkent) is adjusting its schedules for the winter starting on October 25 including new service to Birmingham (UK) starting on December 1.

Gulf Air (Bahrain) has applied new stickers on all aircraft to promote
Bahrain International Air Show. ย The companyย will also unveil an updated version of its current 2003 liveryย in a few weeks. The Falcon logo will be enlarged and the font style will be changed (see top photo for the current livery).

South African surprises with $53.4 m profit

South African Airways (Johannesburg) reported a net profit of $53.4 million for its fiscal year. The company is also planning to lease six Airbus A330-200s to replace its A340-200s.
