United Express Q400 flight 4882 is forced to make an emergency landing at Philadelphia with an engine fire

Republic Airlines’ (2nd) (Indianapolis) United Express flight UA 4882 from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to United Airlines’ hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) was forced to make an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) yesterday afternoon (April 28). The Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) N336NG (msn 4336) with 71 passengers and four crew members on board safely landed on runway 9R-27L. The ARFF personnel put out the fire on the ground. The fire broke out in the number 2 engine.

PHL Airport put out this short statement:

United Express #4882 diverted from Raleigh to EWR. Right engine was on fire. Passengers evacuated, fire extinguished. Pax being bussed to EWR.

Turkish Airlines Airbus A320 makes a hard landing, engine catches on fire, makes another emergency landing at Istanbul

Turkish Airlines (Istanbul) flight TK 1878 from Milan (Malpensa) to Istanbul (Ataturk) today (April 25) made an emergency landing at Istanbul after the engine on the Airbus A320 caught on fire.

The aircraft initially reportedly made a hard landing with the right engine and wing contacting the runway. The crew performed a go around and then made the emergency landing.

According to Reuters the 97 passengers and crew members were safely taken to the terminal.

The aircraft involved is A320-232 TC-JPE (msn 2941) painted in the Star Alliance livery.

Jazz Aviation DHC-8-300 lands safely after an engine fire

Jazz Aviation (Air Canada Express) (formerly Air Canada Jazz) (Halifax) Bombardier DHC-8-300 operating a passenger flight from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island to Vancouver experienced an engine fire yesterday (December 12). According to Reuters, “Shortly after the Jazz DHC 8-300 aircraft took off from Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, the crew was notified of an engine oil issue and flames were seen near one of the engines, Air Canada Jazz said in an emailed statement.

The crew released fire retardant into the engine housing and were able to extinguish the flames. The aircraft, which had 35 passengers and three crew members on board, then returned to Nanaimo, where it was met by emergency vehicles.”
