Finnair to fly to Xi’an, China next summer nonstop from Helsinki

Finnair (Helsinki) will begin flying to Xiยดan, China in the summer of 2013, further deepening the airlineโ€™s network of Asian destinations.ย Finnairย will begin service to Xiยดan from its hub in Helsinki with three frequencies per week starting on June 14 until the close of the summer season on October 26, 2013.

Air Finland shuts down and files for bankruptcy protection

Air Finland (Helsinki) operated its last flight last night (June 26) and immediately filed for bankruptcy protection. The airline commenced operations on April 3, 2003. The closure has stranded around 1,000 passengers.

Finnair to lease two Airbus A340-300s from ILFC

Finnair (Helsinki) will lease two 270-seat Airbus A340-300 wide-bodied aircraft for four years from the leasing company ILFC. The aircraft will join the Finnair fleet in late 2010 and early 2011.

Finnair currently has 12 Airbus long-haul aircraft, which fly to nine
destinations in Asia as well as to New York in North America. At the end of this year, one further new Airbus A330 aircraft, ordered earlier, will join the fleet. With the coming additions, Finnair’s long-haul fleet will grow to a total 15 Airbus aircraft by the beginning of next year.

Next May, Finnair will open a daily direct route to Singapore.

Finnair Technical Services to add Blended Winglets to Condor’s 13 Boeing 757-300s

Finnair Technical Services (Helsinki) has completed the installation of Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets to the first Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) Boeing 757-300. 757-330 D-ABOE (msn 29012) is pictured being towed today (November 22) to engine run-up area at Helsinki.

The scheduled departure will be tomorrow afternoon. Finnair Technical Services will install the winglets on all 13 Condor Boeing 757-330s. A second aircraft arrived at HEL on Friday evening (November 20) and a third will arrive tomorrow (November 23).

Finnair’s pilots end their strike, service to gradually return

Finnair (Helsinki) issued the following statement this evening as the strike by the pilots has ended. Operations will gradually return to normal over the next few days.

Finncomm Airlines adds extra domestic flights in Finland

Finncomm Airlines (Finish Commuter Airlines) (Helsinki) has added extra flights in Finland due to the Finnair strike.
