Delta Air Lines and Korean Air have reached an agreement to deepen their historic partnership, with an expanded trans-Pacific network that will increase travel choices and boost competition between the U.S. and Asia.

The airlines signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a joint venture arrangement, which will offer customers access to the most comprehensive route network, industry-leading airline products, world-class airport facilities and a seamless customer experience.

Highlights of the agreement, subject to regulatory approvals, include:

The intent to create a fully integrated trans-Pacific joint venture arrangement, with both airlines sharing the costs and revenues on flights and coordinating schedules for seamless, convenient connections.

A combined network, serving more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia, providing customers of both airlines with more travel choices than ever before.

Enhanced frequent flyer benefits, providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn and redeem miles on Deltaโ€™s Sky Miles and Korean Airโ€™s SKYPASS programs.

Upon the signing of the final joint venture arrangement, Delta and Korean Air will work together to implement all aspects of the enhanced co-operation including expanded codesharing, frequent flyer programs and joint growth in the trans-Pacific market, with co-location at key hubs with seamless passenger and baggage transit experience.

Delta will be launching new nonstop service between Atlanta and Seoul in June 2017, a flight that complements Korean Airโ€™s existing service, providing customers in the U.S. with greater access to destinations across Asia.

At the same time Korean Air will continue to expand its U.S. โ€“ Korea network in summer 2017 with the introduction of a third roundtrip between Los Angeles and Seoul, as well as a second flight between San Francisco and Seoul.

American begins a strategic relationship with China Southern Airlines

China Southern Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner B-2733 (msn 34927) LHR (Antony J. Best). Image: 921994.

American Airlines on March 28, 2017announced it has committed to make a $200 million (US) equity investment in China Southern Airlines, creating a strong foundation for a long-term relationship between two of the worldโ€™s biggest carriers. China Southern is the largest airline in China and is the ideal carrier for American, the largest airline in the world, to build a relationship within this critically important market.

China Southernโ€™s primary hub is located in Guangzhou (CAN) with the majority of its transpacific flights positioned there, while American flies to Beijing (PEK) and Shanghai (PVG) from its hubs in Chicago (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX). The carriers are planning to give travelers not only the amenities, features and the products that they want at different price points, but also a bigger network that serves the markets to which they want to travel.

Later this year, the two carriers expect to begin codeshare and interline agreements that will give customers access to many more destinations in China, as well as North and South America. American customers will be able to access nearly 40 destinations beyond Beijing and more than 30 destinations beyond Shanghai. China Southern customers will gain access to almost 80 destinations beyond LAX, San Francisco (SFO), and New Yorkโ€™s Kennedy Airport (JFK) in North and South America. The expected codeshare routes are anticipated to include the ability to earn and redeem AAdvantageยฎ Miles, through-bag checking and the ability to book travel on a single ticket. The planned routes operating under the interline agreement are anticipated to include through-bag checking to the travelerโ€™s final destination.

American currently offers daily service from DFW to Hong Kong (HKG), PEK and PVG; LAX to HKG and PVG; and ORD to PEK and PVG. All flights to PEK and PVG are operated on the airlineโ€™s state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (below), while its HKG flights are operated using its flagship Boeing 777-300. American also has Chinese-speaking flight attendants and offers fully lie-flat seats in first and business class cabins on all of its transpacific flights between China and the U.S.

https://airlinersgallery.smugmug.com/Airlines-Asia-1/Airlines-Asia1-AE/Emirates-Airline/i-4tTXKz7/A

Emirates on July 1, 2016 launched its second daily Airbus A380 flight to Los Angeles. A6-EON had the honors and was decorated in a new special “Official Airline of the Los Angeles Dodgers” livery for the occasion.

Previously on February 20, 2016ย Emirates announced that it has become the Official Airline Sponsor of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This new deal expands Emiratesโ€™ international footprint as a supporter of sports and culture, marking the airlineโ€™s entry into the world of baseball, a sport with deep roots in American history and culture.

As the Official Airline partner, Emirates will have home plate and foul pole signage and will open a new Emirates Lounge, a 70 person hospitality space for Emirates and guests. In addition, Emirates will feature in-game activations, occasional ceremonial first pitches and fan appreciation activities. To extend the partnership, the Dodgers will be sponsoring the Dubai Little League All Star Travel Teams, which will now go by the name the Dubai Dodgers.

This new partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers continues Emiratesโ€™ momentum in the realm of sport, with the airline having made its mark on soccer as a sponsor of some of the worldโ€™s premier teams including AC Milan, Real Madrid, Arsenal FC, Olympiacos FC, Hamburger SV, and Paris Saint-Germain. In recent years, Emirates has also expanded its presence in tennis with a sponsorship portfolio that includes the US Open, the Emirates Airline US Open Series, the Australian Open, the Emirates Airline Australian Open Series as well as the French Open. Emirates is also the Premier Partner of the ATP which provides net branding at every menโ€™s event globally and the Emirates Rankings. In the U.S., Emirates also is the main sponsor of the New York Cosmos, the USA Rugby Team and the San Francisco Symphony.

As the worldโ€™s largest international airline, Emirates helps bring people closer together, not only through the provision of air transport services, but also by supporting global sports and cultural events that have the ability to connect people from all walks of life via a shared passion. With the Los Angeles Dodgers partnership, Emirates is showing its commitment to California by supporting a great local team that many people in the state and beyond are passionate about.

Emirates first launched services between its hub in Dubai and Los Angeles in 2008 with a Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft. As demand grew, in 2013 Emirates began flying the revolutionary double-decked A380 aircraft to serve LA travelers.

Starting July 1, 2016, Emirates added a second daily A380 service to Los Angeles, offering a total of 980 seats per day flying from Los Angeles International Airport to Dubai. This will create more choice for travelers flying abroad, and opportunities for many more international travelers to visit California.

SKYTRAX awards EVA Air a 5-Star rating

https://airlinersgallery.smugmug.com/World-Airline-News/World-Airline-News-June-2016/i-LnKHgpV/A

SKYTRAX, an international air transport standards and quality rating organization, awarded EVA Air its prestigious 5-Star Airline ranking during a ceremony in Taipei, Taiwan on June 15, 2016. The 5-Star ranking is SKYTRAX’s highest global airline quality rating and the result of direct and professional analysis of as many as 800 different areas of EVA’s product and service delivery.

SKYTRAX initiated a thorough evaluation of EVA in May 2015. The airline rating organization sent auditors to fly the airline and analyze airport and onboard products in addition to frontline staff service on the ground and in the air. These auditors flew multiple EVA flights from different gateways and sampled all of the carrier’s cabin classes during the year-long process of certifying the 5-Star Airline Rating.

SKYTRAX began rating EVA in 2008, awarding it four stars from the start and recognizing the airline’s high product standards and staff services across different cabin classes inflight and at the airline’s home-base airport, Taoyuan International Airport just outside of Taipei, Taiwan. EVA was among only 37 carriers worldwide to hold the SKYTRAX 4-Star Airline Rating in 2015.

SKYTRAX ranks airlines in five categories, from 1-star through the top 5-star designation. Its evaluations are recognized as a global benchmark for airline quality. SKYTRAX also ranked EVA as one of the “World’s Top-10 Best Airlines” and the number one airline for “Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness” for 2015, based on its annual quality satisfaction survey of travelers worldwide.

EVA joins an elite group of carriers consistently recognized as the best of the best. The other seven 5-star airlines are All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.
