Sky Airline phases out its last Boeing 737-200s

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santiago) on July 3 2013 retired from scheduled operations three of its Boeing 737-200s: CC-CTO, CC-AAG and CC-ABD. Three 737-200s still remain in service: CC-CTH, CC-CTK and CC-CVI. However these last three aircraft will be retired by the end of July 2013. After that, the carrier will only operate Airbus A319s and A320s.

Sky Airline of Chile to expand to Brazil in 2014

Sky Airline (Santiago) on June 7 received new authorization from the Brazilian aviation authorities for new route authority rights to operate between Chile and Brazil. The airline will start Brazilian flights in 2014.

Meanwhile the airline continues to convert its Boeing 737-200 fleet to more modern Airbus A319s and A320s. The company during May scrapped two more Boeing 737-200s (CC-CTI and CC-CTX).

Sky Airline to add a second Airbus A319

Sky Airline (Santiago) of Chile is planning to add its second Airbus A319 to its fleet. The aircraft is an A319-111 registered as CC-AFY (msn 2129). The airframe was previously registered as G-EZEC with easyJet (London-Luton) until it was de-registered from the UK register on May 15, 2012. Its current owner is NBB Flex Company Ltd.

Sky Airline has signed a code share agreement with TACA

Sky Airline (Santiago) has signed a new code share agreement with TACA (San Salvador). The Chilean airline is also expected to sign another code share agreement with Avianca (Colombia) (Bogota) next year.

Sky Airline leases Airbus A320-214 9H-AEN from Air Malta

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santiago) has leased this Airbus A320-214 9H-AEN (msn 2665) from Air Malta for the summer season.

Sky Airline launches the Santiago-Buenos Aires route

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santiago) (stylized as SKY) is finally flying to Buenos Aires from Santiago. The first scheduled flight was on December 1, 2010 with twice-daily services using its Airbus A320s.

An agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas allows Sky Airline to sell tickets of the Argentine airline at its offices, and Aerolíneas Argentinas does the same with Sky Airline routes in Chile.

This is the third international route of Sky Airline, as it began flying from SCL to Lima in Perú on November 17 2010.

Sky Airline is delayed in starting the new Santiago-Buenos Aires route

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santaigo) has been delayed in starting its new route to Buenos Aires using its newly-acquired Airbus A320s. The company announced the first scheduled flight between Santiago de Chile (SCL) and Buenos Aires (EZE), originally scheduled for September 3, 2010, has been delayed. The airline has been informed by the Argentine aviation authorities that it has not yet received the necessary authorization to start scheduled operations. The airline had already sold tickets for the inaugural flights and had to rebook the passengers on LAN Airlines or Aerolíneas Argentinas flights.

The route is not likely to start now until December 2010.

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santiago) will start a twice-daily route to Buenos Aires starting on September 3, 2010.

Sky Airline (Chile) takes delivery of its first Airbus A320

Sky Airline (Chile) (Santiago) took delivery of its first Airbus A320 on April 30 when ex-TACA A320-233 N484TA (msn 1523) arrived at the SCL base without any markings. The second, A320-233 N470TA (msn 1400), is due to arrive in about a week. The company has previously leased the type from Air Malta in the past.

Sky Airline (Santiago) announced yesterday (April 8) it has the successfully negotiated with the leasing company Aviation Capital Group an agreement to lease two Airbus A320-200s for delivery in May. This marks the begining of the fleet renewal for the company, whose fleet is entirely composed by aging Boeing 737-200s.
