ANA Holdings today announced that it has reached an agreement with the Boeing Company to convert two orders for the Boeing 777-9 aircraft to Boeing 777-8F cargo aircraft, and finalized its existing purchase agreement for 30 Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
The announcement reflects ANA HD’s plan to further expand its cargo business through securing large freighters and to replace the domestic fleet’s smaller planes with more fuel-efficient aircraft that will serve as the foundation for future growth.

1. Conversion to Boeing 777-8F aircraft
At a meeting of the Board of Directors held today on July 11, 2022, ANA HD decided to convert two of the 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft that had been initially announced on March 27, 2014, with Boeing 777-8F cargo aircraft. The aircraft will be introduced into service on/after fiscal 2028.

The Boeing 777-8F is a state-of-the-art freighter that has the largest cargo capacity of any twin-engine aircraft, and has reduced CO2 emissions and operational costs that uses less fuel per ton.
2. Finalized purchase agreement of Boeing 737-8 (Boeing 737 MAX series) aircraft
The ANA Group today finalized its agreement for the purchase of Boeing 737-8 aircraft (20 confirmed and 10 optional), which was previously announced on January 29, 2019. The introduction of the aircraft is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2025.
The Boeing 737-8 had been suspended worldwide for approximately 1 year and 9 months due to two accidents. The FAA approved the resumption of operations of this aircraft in November 2020 with modifications to its system that were identified to be factors that led to the accidents and review in the crew training methods. As of today, 46 airlines worldwide have resumed operations of this aircraft, and it has been operating smoothly without any operational issues.
As the latest model in the Boeing 737 series, the Boeing 737 MAX family is equipped with next-generation engines with improved fuel efficiency, and its cutting-edge winglets (Advanced Technology Winglets) are expected to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 15 percent compared to the existing Boeing 737 NG model. The new aircraft will be introduced to replace the Boeing 737-800, which are currently in operation on domestic routes, and will offer a more spacious and comfortable cabin with less noise than the existing model.

ANA Group will continue to achieve the various initiatives in its growth strategy while raising safety as the foundation of its management and at the same time, strive to improve the quality and service for our customers.

From The Lead South Australia:

An artist impression of the various vertical take-off and landing aircraft V-STAR is planning on bringing to Australia.
V-STAR has plans to bring vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft to Australia for regional travel, aeromedical and search and rescue services and commercial transport.
While not new โ VTOL technology has been used in military planes like the Harrier Jump Jet for decades โ V-STAR has contracts with overseas commercial operators to introduce aircraft that have the versatility of a helicopter with the range and speed of a traditional fixed-wing aircraft to Australia.
Chief Executive Officer and Founder Tony Laws said the company had options on bringing in a mixed fleet of what is also known as power lift aircraft, including the tilt-rotor AW609 from Italian company Leonardo, which is the first commercially certified aircraft of its type globally.
โThese new aircraft designs will change the way we approach regional travel and transport in Australia,โ Laws said.
โAnywhere we need to get people and equipment quickly and cheaply is where these aeroplanes come in.โ

The tilt-rotor AW609 can be equipped with winching capabilities that would make it suited to search and rescue along Australiaโs coastlines. Photo: Leonardo
Laws said V-STAR was also in partnership with Swiss company Dufour Aviation, which will give the new venture early access to Dufourโs next-generation aircraft called theย Aero3, a tilt-wing hybrid-electric plane.
Dufour is a world leader in aircraft electric propulsion systems and has applied its hybrid electric power systems to the new aircraft designs.
Laws, a pilot with a background in search and rescue, said theย Aero3ย was perfect for emergency services in Australia. The plane, which can hold a stretcher and two medics, can land on almost any helipad and is three times cheaper to operate than a fixed-wing plane and 10 times cheaper than a helicopter.
According to Laws, the hybrid-electric propulsion gives the 2800kg aircraft a range of over 1000km and three hours of endurance.

V-STAR has a partnership with Swiss company Dufour Aviation for its Aero3 tilt-wing hybrid-electric plane.
Dufourโs Chief Commercial Officer Sascha Hardegger said V-STAR Powered Lift Aviation is an Australian player that aspires to bring a unique travel service to regional and metropolitan Australia, utilising the versatility of powered lift aircraft.
โWe are proud to be one of their chosen key manufacturers with an agreement for ourย Aero3ย in the field of emergency services,โ Hardegger said.
V-STAR is also looking at the TriFan 600, being developed by XTI Aircraft in the United States, which is a tilt ducted plane that is an alternative to light business jets and rescue planes. It has a maximum speed of 600kph and a range of 500km, far outdoing any helicopter.
Transport services with planes like the TriFan 600 would mean V-STAR could offer 45minute flights from Adelaide to Pt Lincoln for just $85, Laws said.

The TriFan 600 is a tilt ducted plane being developed by XTI Aircraft in Denver, Colorado.
Adelaide was picked for the V-STAR headquarters because Laws already has a relationship with helicopter service Helistar Aviation at Adelaide Airport that would help start the pilot training and certification needed to introduce power lift aircraft into Australia and the region.
Laws said they are also in discussions with the Government of South Australia about a trade delegation in 2023 to look at Australian first trials and the possibility of advanced manufacturing based in Adelaide.

PLAY made this announcement:

In June, the load factor was 79.2% compared to a 69.6% load factor in May. The load factor in June was acceptable given that our hub-and-spoke network was still being built out during the month when New York, Palma de Mallorca, Bologna and Madrid were added to the network.
On-time performance (OTP) in June was 79.1%, which, although not up to our usual high standards, is still more than satisfactory given the change to a hub-and-spoke network and the difficult situation at European airports that struggle with staff shortages and subsequent delays.
The fast recovery in worldwide travel and staff shortages after COVID-19 has caused significant difficulties and delays in supply chains as well as at most airports that PLAY operates to. Like most other airlines, PLAY has experienced delays in its schedule and suffered from costs associated with these delays. This cost is already built into the companyโs business plan and is in line with expectations and the norm in the industry.

During this yearโs first quarter, PLAY began implementing the companyโs fuel hedging policy. PLAYยดs first step was a cautious one, with the next step now underway as PLAY has decided to further increase its fuel hedging. With this increase, PLAY is hedging 30% of estimated fuel consumption for the next three months, i.e., July to September, and 15% of estimated fuel consumption for the subsequent four to six months, i.e., October to December, over the next four to six months. This is in line with PLAYยดs fuel hedging policy.

PLAYโs sixth aircraft, an Airbus A320neo, arrived in Iceland at the end of June and recently began flying passengers within the network. PLAY is now operating three Airbus A321neo and three Airbus A320neo aircraft. These aircraft are now flying passengers to PLAYโs 25 destinations in the U.S. and Europe.

โJune is another landmark month for us as it is the first month when we operate our full hub-and-spoke network using six aircraft. Itโs great to see that our unit costs reduce dramatically once we have reached this scale in our operation. As previously communicated in our guidance, we have now reached our initial target of unit cost per available seat kilometer (CASK) excluding fuel and emissions being lower than four U.S. cents. This is very important for us as we aim to offer the lowest fares in our markets, and a low-cost base is critical to achieving that.

This also shows the underlying efficiency of our business model and is an encouragement to us as we strive to lower our costs even further as PLAY grows. European aviation is having a hard time ramping up its capacity, and there are delays and complications everywhere. In light of that, I am especially proud of my colleagues in our flight operations, technical teams, crew members and service specialists, as they have done a fantastic job in handling our expansion during this difficult time, achieving very satisfactory punctuality considering the situation at most airports and the fact that we are building a brand-new network. I send my sincere thanks to them and the entire PLAY team for their hard work and dedication,โ says Birgir Jรณnsson, PLAYโs CEO.
