Air Serbia to start a new route to Beirut, Lebanon

Air Serbia (Belgrade) will launch a new daily Airbus A319 Belgrade-Beirut route on June 1 per Airline Route.

The first Airbus A319 is painted for Air Serbia at Dublin

Air Serbia (Belgrade) will soon take delivery of the first of ten Airbus A319s as the airline reorganizes under the leadership of new partner Etihad Airways (Abu Dhabi). The pictured A319-131 EI-EYA is seen at Dublin after emerging from the paint shop and undergoing engine runs on September 27, 2013. EI-EYA is the former VT-KFH of Kingfisher Airlines. Jat Airways (Belgrade) is expected to be replaced by the new Air Serbia on October 27, 2013. EI-EYA will become YU-APC on delivery. Three A319s will initially be delivered with two leased from Etihad Airways.

Air Serbia is the legal successor of Jat Airways (Belgrade) and will receive its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) although it is expected to retain the JU/JAT codes of Jat Airways.

All 10 A319s are expected to be in service by March 2014.

Etihad will control 49 percent of the stock of the new company.

United Airlines to start Indianapolis-San Francisco service, pilots release a seniority list

United Airlines (Chicago) has announced new daily nonstop service from Indianapolis to its hub at San Francisco International Airport., beginning on January 7, 2014. The conveniently timed flights will operate using Airbus A319 aircraft, with eight United First seats, 40 United Economy Plus seats and 72 United Economy seats.

United flight 500 will depart Indianapolis International Airport (IND) at 8 a.m. (0800), arriving at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at 10 a.m. (1000). The return flight, United 317, will depart San Francisco at 1:35 p.m. (1335), arriving in Indianapolis at 8:51 p.m. (2051). The new service, which launches from San Francisco to Indianapolis on January 7 and from Indianapolis to San Francisco on January 8, will provide travelers with convenient connections from United’s largest West Coast hub to points throughout North America, Asia and Australia. United currently offers nonstop service from Indianapolis to its hubs in Chicago (O’Hare), Cleveland, Denver, Houston (Bush Intercontinental), Newark and Washington, D.C. (Dulles) with up to 35 daily flights offering single-connection access to more than 261 cities across the globe.

In other news, the pilots of United Airlines and Continental Airlines have finally released an integrated seniority list. A three-member pilot arbitration panel came up with the solution after three years of negotiations.

bmi to launch London Heathrow-Tripoli flights on December 1

bmi (British Midland Airways) (East Midlands) will launch the London (Heathrow)-Tripoli route starting on December 1. The new route will be operated with Airbus A319s. Flight BD469 will depart London Heathrow at 8:55 a.m. (0855) and arrive in Tripoli at 2:30 p.m. (1430). Flight BD470 will leave Tripoli at 3:15 p.m. (1515), arriving at London Heathrow at 4:45 p.m. (1645).

Cabin crews strike against British Airways for 5 days

British Airways (London) will be forced to endure a five-day strike this week by its 12,000 cabin crew members led by the Unite union. The two parties failed to reach a compromise over the weekend. The union has begun a five-day strike, increasing the pressure on CEO Willie Walsh who wants to cut staff and wages in order to reverse record losses.

BA has cancelled flights scheduled to fly around 25,000 people a day during the strike, including 40 percent of its long-haul services from Heathrow Airport.

BA issued the following statement:

“We are very disappointed that Unite have gone ahead with strike action from 24 May to 29 May.

We will continue to keep as many of you flying as possible.

We would like to apologise if you are affected by the strike. We will do all we can to minimise the disruption to you.

We will update ba.com with further changes as soon as possible and would recommend that you regularly check the
status of your flight.”

British Airways vows to fly 70% of its passengers during the 20-day strike

British Airways (London) is planning to operate six out of ten long-haul flights and more than half its shorter services from Heathrow, but up to two million people are still expected to be affected by the long-running industrial action by its cabin staff.

This new plan is part of BA’s strike-busting plan to ‘keep BA flying’ and resist the Unite union which the company has termed as “seeking to destroy Britain’s flagship airline with pointless industrial action”.

United Airlines Conducts First Commercial Flight in U.S. Using Synthetic Jet Fuel

United Airlines (Chicago) yesterday (April 30) conducted the first commercial flight in the U.S. using synthetic jet fuel.

United Airlines’ Airbus A319 makes a wheels-up landing at Newark Liberty

United Airlines’ (Chicago) flight UA 634 from Chicago (O’Hare) to Newark (Liberty) made an emergency landing on runway 4L at Newark this morning after the cockpit crew was not able to lower the right main gear after circling EWR for nearly 45 minutes. There were no injuries but there is some underside damage to the Airbus A319-131 (N816UA, msn 408).
