Solomon Airlines to introduce a new international schedule on August 1

Airline Color Scheme - Introduced 2011

Solomon Airlines has welcomed the news that mandatory quarantine requirements for inbound visitors will be reduced shortly and has published a new international schedule effective from August 1, 2022, re-introducing regular flights between Solomon Islands and Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Kiribati, and connections to partner airline services from New Zealand, Asia, and the USA.

Until the complete lifting of mandatory quarantine, international visitors to Solomon Islands must continue to follow the updated health protocols while accommodated at one of the approved ‘Tourism Bubble’ operators.

Solomon Airlines’ new international schedule effective from August 1, 2022 will include flight times that enable same-day connections at least twice weekly to and from all major international markets.

The airline has also adjusted timings on selected domestic flights to Munda, Gizo, Seghe, and Suavanao to allow for direct connections from international services on the Brisbane-Honiara route.

Highlights of the new schedule from August 1, 2022 include:

  • Brisbane-Honiara flights twice weekly and a third Brisbane-Honiara flight every fortnight
  • Honiara-Brisbane flights twice weekly
  • Honiara-Port Vila-Nadi-Honiara flights every Tuesday
  • Brisbane-Tarawa flights via Honiara to operate fortnightly
  • Tarawa-Brisbane direct flights to operate fortnightly
  • Direct connection on Wednesdays from Munda onto the Honiara-Brisbane service
  • Lomlom gains a second weekly service to and from Honiara via Santa Cruz on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Honiara-Auki-Honiara services will operate twice daily on Monday in the morning and afternoon

Solomon Airlines said COVID-19 safety protocols including a requirement for passengers to wear face masks onboard all Solomon Airlines flights will continue to support the protection of passengers and staff.

First Air France Airbus A320 refitted with Safran ECOS shelf bins enters service

Air France Airbus A320-211 F-GJVW (msn 491) AMS (Ton Jochems). Image: 955098.

Safran made this announcement:

The first Air France Airbus A320 retrofitted with Safran Cabin ECOS Shelf Bins and installed by Air France Industries in July 2021, returns to service with success.

The ECOS “Efficient Cabin Open Space” shelf bins offer up to 60% more storage capacity. The new luggage compartments are equipped with easy to reach doors that do not encroach into the cabin aisle and provide a lower shelf height for ease of loading and visibility. They provide an easier and smoother boarding experience, greatly reducing the time spent searching for luggage space or the need to put certain bags in the cargo hold. Aircraft turnaround times also reduce to improve efficiency and on-time performance.

The ECOS Interior is robust, lightweight, and easy to maintain. The installation of the ECOS system was extremely efficient with certification of the interior facilitated by means of FAA and EASA Supplemental Type Certification. The modification also included the installation of Movable Class Dividers supplied by Safran Cabin.

Air France is the first company to choose Safran Cabin’s ECOS “Efficient Cabin Open Space” shelf bins and they will equip in total 24 Air France Airbus A320s.

Airbus repaints the first A320, will go to the Aeroscopia Museum

The original Airbus A320, in the original 1987 livery

Airbus in August 2017 repainted the first A320 (msn 001) in it’s original 1987 livery. The historic airliner has also been reregistered with its original registration, F-WWAI.

MSN 001 history:

First flight on February 22, 1987 as F-WWAI.

Reregistered as F-WWFT in 1991.

Reregistered as F-WWBA in 2006.

The aircraft will be donated to and displayed by the Aeroscopia Aeronautical Museum in Toulouse.

ORIGINS AND HISTORY OF AEROSCOPIA

A SHORT HISTORY

In the Midi-Pyrénées region, nearly 80,000 people make a living from the aviation industry, the driving force behind the region’s economy:

manufacturers, sub-contractors, suppliers, design offices, service providers…

Between the first powered aircraft designed in secret in the town of Muret by Clément Ader, and the first flight in the skies of Blagnac of the A380, flagship of the European aviation industry, more than a century has passed.

To fly across the seas and the continents, first came the aircraft made by Latécoère and Dewoitine, then the Languedoc and the Armagnac.

At the end of the fifties Caravelle, the first French jetliner, proved to be a resounding success. Then in 1969 it was Concorde’s turn to take to the skies for the first time in Blagnac.

These aircraft were followed by the entire Airbus family, affirming Toulouse’s mission to fly higher, faster and farther.

This is also the story of the great pioneers of aviation.

Here, in the birthplace of global civil and military aviation, the Airbus Group laid the foundations of its head office in January 2014 and the commercial successes of Airbus and ATR boost the economy of the Midi-Pyrénées region.

For more than 30 years, the players and witnesses of this industrial, technical and human saga, as well as those who love aircraft and love to fly, have strived for this history to be forever remembered and shared. For the preservation of this historical heritage.

Aeroscopia, an aviation museum, addresses this expectation.

The foundation stone was laid on June 16, 2011.

Solomon Airlines (Solomons) (Honiara) suspended all domestic and international airline operations on June 7, 2016 over a dispute for promised funding from the Solomon Islands government. CEO Ron Sum Sum said millions of dollars in unpaid government payments had seriously compromised safe airline operations.
