Airline Color Scheme - Introduced 2021 (1st)

Global Crossing Airlines (GlobalX) issued this financial report for its first quarter:

Significant highlights and milestones for the quarter include:

  • Obtained its US FAA Aircraft Operating Certificate as a US 121 Flag and Supplemental Carrier
  • Obtained its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for Foreign Charter Air Transportation from the US DOT to Fly Internationally
  • Entered Revenue Service on August 7, 2021 with one Airbus A320 Aircraft; Three aircraft in operation by September 30, 2021
  • Signed leases for one Airbus A321 converted freighter and two A320 passenger aircraft; Signed letters of intent for one A321 converter freighter and one A320 passenger plane

Global Crossing Airlines Group, Inc. โ€œGlobalXโ€ reported its financial results for its first quarter of revenue operations which occurred in the third quarter ended September 30, 2021, including revenue of $3.1M and net operating loss of $5.26M or ($.10) per diluted share. Included in GlobalXโ€™s operating results are an estimated $2.1 million in expense related to pre-revenue operations during the quarter, as well as approximately $750 thousand in non-recurring expenses. All dollar amounts in this press release are in United States dollars.

โ€œWE HAD A VERY SMOOTH ENTRY INTO REVENUE OPERATIONS AND THE GLOBALX TEAM HAS PERFORMED EXCEEDINGLY WELL,โ€ SAID ED WEGEL, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GLOBALX. โ€œDURING OUR FIRST SEVEN WEEKS OF OPERATIONS WE OPERATED MORE THAN 150 REVENUE FLIGHTS, AND APPROXIMATELY 400 BLOCK HOURS, FOR NEARLY A DOZEN CUSTOMERS.โ€

โ€œON AUGUST 30TH, WE RECEIVED OUR FINAL AUTHORITY FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO FLY INTERNATIONAL CHARTERS. THIS ENABLES US TO FLY TO THE CARIBBEAN, MEXICO, LATIN AMERICA, AND CANADA. WE CAPITALIZED ON THAT AUTHORITY BY IMMEDIATELY EXECUTING ON INTERNATIONAL CONTRACTS, AND WE HAVE BEEN CONTINUING TO EXPAND OUR INTERNATIONAL CLIENT BASE.โ€

MR. WEGEL FURTHER ADDED: “NOW THAT THE FAA CERTIFICATION IS BEHIND US, OUR FOCUS IS ON DELIVERING EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER VALUE, WHILE SCALING THE AIRLINE TOWARDS PROFITABILITY. WE ARE EXTREMELY ENCOURAGED ABOUT THE DEMAND FOR OUR PRODUCT OFFERING AS WELL AS OUR GROWING PORTFOLIO OF CUSTOMERS.โ€

Third-Quarter Results

Flights in the third quarter of 2021 totaled 378 block hours with revenue of $3.1M, both of which were zero for the same period in 2020. Operating losses during the quarter were driven by the investments necessary to achieve FAA certification and limited number of aircraft. During the quarter GlobalX operated two Airbus A320s and one Airbus A321 aircraft for 91 total combined days available for sale.

GlobalX ended the quarter with $8.9 million in cash and restricted cash.

Outlook

Looking ahead, GlobalX projects strong demand for its services and a resulting increase in revenue block hours in the fourth quarter of 2021. GlobalX will seek to continue to increase its flight activity to Cuba and the Dominican Republic, as well as flights on behalf of the US Government agencies, US-based hotel and casino operators, and for college football team clients (including NCAA football bowl game flights). GlobalX is accepting delivery of three aircraft in the coming weeks and expects to have as many as 6 aircraft operating by the end of the year. This will result in an estimated 270% increase in total combined aircraft days available for sale in the fourth quarter versus third.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Wegel stated: โ€œWe believe we are now developing a strong foundation for our airline, with a strong team of airline professionals, and we are well positioned going into 2022.โ€

Volotea expands in Sardinia after the Sardinian government issues a tender

"Marco Volo" - "I'll be home for dinner"

Volotea has made this announcement:

Volotea will operate a total of six routes for at least seven months

The company plans to open a new base in Alghero, that will be added to Cagliari and Olbia for a total of 3 Sardinian bases. The flights took off on Friday, October 15, 2021, avoiding interruptions in connections between Sardinia and the mainland.

In Sardinia, Volotea has carried around 3.5 million passengers since the start of its operations.

Volotea, the airline of small and mid-sized European cities, will operate a total of six routes connecting Sardinia to the mainland for at least seven months. Flights operate from October 15 until May 14, 2022. The company will connect Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero with Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate airports.

Volotea will open its third Sardinian base in Alghero, in addition to the Cagliari and Olbia bases.

The regional government of Sardinia announced that Volotea has been awarded with the tender to operate six routes: Alghero โ€“ Rome Fiumicino, Alghero โ€“ Milan Linate, Cagliari โ€“ Rome Fiumicino, Cagliari โ€“ Milan Linate, Olbia โ€“ Rome Fiumicino and Olbia โ€“ Milan Linate. The airline will operate these flights until May 2022 with a greater frequency in October, November, and December.

The regional government of Sardinia launched an urgent tender to replace Alitalia on territorial continuity routes to mainland Italy once this airline goes out of business on October 14th, 2021. A large part of the flights abandoned by Alitalia will be taken over by ITA, the new airline of Italy. However, there were many uncovered routes, including these to/from Sardinia. Twelve airlines operating in Italy were invited to participate in the tender for the award of the service in the agreement of air connections from the 3 airports of Sardinia (Alghero, Olbia, Cagliari) to Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate, in a public service obligation known in the country as territorial continuity.

After being unfairly excluded from the first tender, Volotea felt compelled to improve its offer to ensure the operation of the routes, presenting again the best offer.ย The airline has been chosen to operate the six routes for territorial continuity between the three island airports and the hubs of Rome and Milan.

Brussels Airlines sees 30 to 40% growth in corporate travel out of Belgium

Brussels Airlines Airbus A320-214 OO-SNL (msn 1961) TLS (Paul Bannwarth). Image: 955228.

Brussels Airlines has made this announcement:

  • Corporate travel out of Belgium slowly starts to pick up again
  • Weekly increase in bookings of 30 to 40%
  • Brussels Airlines expects companies to ease restrictions in their travel policies as of October
  • European destinations most popular for business traffic
  • Higher demand for flights to USA due to easing of travel restrictions for fully vaccinated passengers
  • Need for flexibility higher than ever before
Since mid-august, Brussels Airlines notes a light increase in corporate travel out of Belgium. With a weekly increase in bookings between 30 and 40%, the airline expects to welcome around 28,000 corporate passengers out of Brussels in September. While corporate travellers normally book two to three weeks in advance, the trend of the last minute bookings since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis has changed the booking timing to only two to three days ahead of their travel date.

Increasing demand for corporate travel

Some sectors are resuming corporate travel faster than others. The first sectors to pick up business travel again are the European and other political institutions, universities and the Marine business, followed by the automotive industry, international construction companies and producers of building materials. Also NGOโ€™s and insurance companies performing repatriations represent a significant share of Brussels Airlinesโ€™ corporate customers.

While many multinationals still apply a (partial) homeworking policy, the airline expects its major corporate customers to ease their travel policies as of October.

Popular business destinations

The most important destinations for corporate travelers are mainly European destinations such as Italy (Milano), Slovenia (due to EU Presidency), Denmark (Copenhagen), Czech Republic (Prague), Germany (Berlin), Austria (Vienna), Switzerland (Geneva), Spain (Madrid & Barcelona) & Portugal (Lisbon).

With the easing of the travel restrictions imposed by the US government, allowing fully vaccinated EU passengers to smoothly enter the U.S.A., Brussels Airlines expects a rising demand for business travel to the United States. In the first 24 hours after the announcement of the end of the travel ban, Brussels Airlines noted a booking increase of 180%. The Belgian airline will offer 4 weekly flights to New York JFK during the winter season.

During the entire crisis, the African network remained of great importance for the airline for both VFR traffic as well as business travel by NGOโ€™s and other companies.

Brussels Airlines expects that the demand for corporate travel will reach the level of 2019 again by 2024. The demand for leisure travel on the other hand recuperates much faster.

Swiss to fly to 90 destinations this winter, will restore the Geneva – New York route

Swiss International Air Lines Airbus A320-214 HB-IJP (msn 681) ZRH (Rolf Wallner). Image: 955199.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will offer its customers a portfolio of destinations in its Winter 2021/2022 schedules that is as extensive as it was in pre-pandemic times. A total of 90 destinations will receive SWISS service from Zurich and/or Geneva, with the aim of offering travelers the widest possible range of routes and onward connections. The extent of the winter offer is further boosted by certain classic summer destinations, especially around the Mediterranean and in Eastern Europe, continuing to be served in the coming winter timetable period. SWISS also plans to resume service on its long-haul Geneva-New York route on selected days of the week from mid-December onwards. And the carrier will further increase its winter services at times of particularly high demand, such as the Christmas holiday period and the winter sports season. All in all, SWISS will be offering around half of the capacity it provided in 2019 in the coming winter schedules.

Despite the continuing and still-changeable travel restrictions, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be offering a wide range of services in its coming Winter 2021/2022 schedules, to perform its mission of keeping Switzerland connected with the rest of Europe and the world.

With 90 points served from Zurich and/or Geneva, SWISSโ€™s winter destination portfolio will be as extensive as it was in Winter 2019, albeit with fewer frequencies. SWISS customers will be offered 81 destinations from Zurich and 26 from Geneva. All in all, SWISS plans to again be offering around 50% of the capacity it provided in 2019 in the coming winter schedules.

Over 80 points from Zurich

SWISS plans to serve a total of 60 short-haul and 21 long-haul destinations from Zurich in the coming winter schedules. Short-haul destinations with the most frequencies from Zurich include Berlin, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Lisbon, London, Malaga and Stockholm and various points in Eastern Europe such as Kyiv and Belgrade. On the long-haul front, the focus will be on such key centers as Chicago, Miami, New York, Sรฃo Paulo, Dubai, Johannesburg and Tel Aviv. The coming winter schedules also extend to various classic summer destinations which this year will continue to be served in the winter months. These include Alicante, Malta, Marseille, Palermo and Thessaloniki. Sarajevo and Tallinn will also continue to receive SWISS service in the coming winter period, as will the Albanian capital of Tirana, for which SWISS took over service this summer from its sister airline Edelweiss.

Resumption of long-haul Geneva-New York services currently being planned

A total of 25 European destinations will receive SWISS service from Geneva in the coming winter timetable period. The most frequently served of these will include Athens, Lisbon and Porto. Travelers from Geneva will also be offered a number of destinations this winter which have previously received only summer services. These include Madeira, Sharm El Sheikh and Tenerife. SWISS is further introducing non-stop service this winter between Geneva and Denmarkโ€™s capital Copenhagen. The winter sports season will be a particular focus of SWISSโ€™s Geneva services: for customers from the UK and Scandinavia especially, the carrier will offer an extensive flight program. SWISS also plans to resume its long-haul services between Geneva and New York on selected days of the week with effect from mid-December: up to four weekly flights are envisaged on the route from December 14 onwards.

Two-step publication

The winter timetable period will run from 31 October 2021 to 27 March 2022. For greater planning, the new SWISS winter schedules will be published in two steps. The schedules up to and including January 16, 2022 are published today (September 22), while the definitive schedules for mid-January to the end of March 2022 will be published in October. The associated stabilizing finalization of these may also entail cancellations of flights originally planned. Any customers whose flight is cancelled may rebook free of charge or have their ticket fully refunded.
