JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo-Haneda) is coming under increased pressure to remain totally under Japanese ownership rather than having a foreign investor. The Japanese government is ready to support the ailing flag carrier and believes JAL can revive on its own.

Air India’s (Mumbai) executive pilots have ended their strike and have started returning to work today.

South African surprises with $53.4 m profit

South African Airways (Johannesburg) reported a net profit of $53.4 million for its fiscal year. The company is also planning to lease six Airbus A330-200s to replace its A340-200s.

VARIG (2nd) (VRG Linhas Aereas) (subsidiary of Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes) (Sao Paulo) will add Aruba and the Sao Paulo (Guarulhos)-Aruba route via Caracas each Sunday effective October 4. The new route will be flown with Boeing 737-800s.

Vision Airlines (USA) (North Las Vegas) has added its first wide body. Ex-KrasAir Boeing 767-2Q8 N766VA (msn 24448, ex EI-DMP) was leased from ILFC on August 20, 2009. It is now fully painted at Miami. Vision Airlines has been very active lately flying charter flights to Cuba.

British to launch London City-JFK flights

British Airways (London) tomorrow (September 29) will launch new Airbus A318 business class service (with 32 seats) from downtown City Airport in London to New York (JFK) via Shannon. Passengers will clear U.S. Customs at Shannon while the airliner is being refueled.
