Continental Airlines and Brussels Airlines to code share

Continental Airlines (Houston) and Brussels Airlines (Brussels) announced plans to start codesharing on Continental’s trans-Atlantic flights between New York (Newark) and Brussels, as well as on selected flights operated by each carrier on both sides of the Atlantic.

Effective August 9, 2010, Continental will place its “CO*” code on selected Brussels Airlines-operated flights between Brussels and nine cities in Europe (Bologna, Italy; Bristol, London/Heathrow and Newcastle, United Kingdom; Hanover, Germany; and Lyons, Marseilles, Paris/Charles de Gaulle and Toulouse, France) and between Brussels and 12 cities in Africa (Accra, Ghana; Banjul, Gambia; Bujumbura, Burundi; Cotonou, Benin; Dakar, Senegal; Douala and Yaounde, Cameroon; Entebbe, Uganda; Kigali, Rwanda; Monrovia, Liberia; Nairobi, Kenya; and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso).

At the same time, Brussels Airlines will place its “SN*” code on Continental’s daily flights between Brussels and its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, as well as on selected flights to five U.S. destinations operated by Continental beyond New York/Newark (Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Houston and Orlando).

Wataniya Airways adds new service to Vienna

Wataniya Airways (Kuwait City) on June 2 added Vienna and the Kuwait City-VIE route with Airbus A320s. The new European route is operated three times a week.

Investigators call off search for missing Air France Flight Data Recorders

Air France’s Airbus A330-203 F-GZCP (msn 660), which crashed tragically on June 1, 2009 in the Atlantic Ocean, will probably remain a mystery. Investigators have called off their search for the Flight Data Recorder and the Cockpit Voice Recorder.

Air France flight AF 447 operating from Rio de Janeiro to Paris (CDG) plunged into the Atlantic Ocean during a thunderstorm, killing 228 people.

Hainan Airlines returns to the black for 2009 with a net profit of $49 million

Hainan Airlines (Haikou) also returned to profitability in 2009 when it posted a net profit of $49 million. the company is also planning to add new service to Honolulu.

US Airways and Brussels Airlines to code share

US Airways (Phoenix) is seeking a new codeshare agreement with Brussels Airlines (Brussels). The agreement is subject to both U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Belgium government approval.

Turkish Airlines supports FC Barcelona with a logojet

Turkish Airlines (Istanbul) as the official sponsor of Futbol Club (FC) Barcelona (Barcelona Soccer Club), is supporting the team with a new logojet. The football clubย was founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English and Spanish men under the direction of Joan Gamper.ย FC Barcelona is one of only three clubs never to have been relegated from La Ligaย and the most successful club in Spanish football after Real Madrid.

Taban Air’s (Tehran) Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85787 (msn 93A971) has crashed and burned on landing at Mashhad, Iran this morning (January 24). There were reports of 43 injured passengers and crew.
