KLM’s Africa network restored to 2019 levels

KLM made this announcement:

A global network of destinations is at the heart of KLM’s strategy for emerging stronger and more competitive from the COVID-19 pandemic. With 11 destinations, KLM’s Africa network is now restored to its 2019 level. In winter 2021, Mombasa (Kenya) will become the latest destination in the KLM network.

Ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, KLM has endeavored to maintain its network as much as possible, including in Africa. This enabled customers to make (necessary) journeys and facilitated the transportation of cargo, such as medical supplies. This strategy makes it easier for KLM to scale up frequencies and load factors once COVID-19 control measures are relaxed.

Strict travel restrictions are still in place for many countries in Africa, which means only necessary travel is permitted.

Important network changes compared to 2019:

  • Summer 2021, KLM is operating services to 11 destinations in Africa, just as it did in 2019.
  • Winter 2021, Mombasa (Kenya) will be added as a new destination.
  • The decision to suspend services to Luanda (Angola) and Windhoek (Namibia), due to a fall in customer demand, was taken before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic; Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Cairo (Egypt) were added to the network in 2020.

KLM network in Asia and the Middle East as good as fully recovered this summer

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has issued this report:

As more and more countries are reopening their borders, KLM is anticipating a cautious re-emergence of customer demand for destinations in Asia and the Middle East. This summer, KLMโ€™s network will be virtually identical to the one it operated in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, fewer flights to the destinations will be offered and/or flights to the destinations will be offered in different combinations. KLM offers Riyad (Saudi Arabia) as a new destination this summer, while flights to Phuket (Thailand) will be introduced this winter.

The network of destinations plays a central role in KLMโ€™s strategy. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, KLM has continued to operate this network to the greatest extent possible in order to preserve customersโ€™ ability to travel and to ensure the continuity of cargo transport. Not only has this strategy proven successful during the course of the COVID crisis, it now makes it easier to scale up operations once more.

Most significant changes compared to 2019:

  • Asia
    • There are 17 destinations planned for this summer, compared with 19 in 2019. Xiamen (China) is temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic (although KLM partner Xiamen Airlines is currently flying to this destination). Service to Denpasar (Indonesia) will be offered as soon as Bali reopens, which will hopefully be later this summer.
    • Phuket will be added as a destination in winter 2021. Flights to the Thai island will be offered four times a week.
    • For the time being, flights to Hangzhou and Shanghai (China) will keep the current stopover in Seoul (South Korea) for the time being. Once the rules change, KLM will make further adjustments to the schedules.
    • KLM flies to Chengdu once a week with passengers and cargo, after which the flight continues on to Beijing via a stopover in Seoul. From there, KLM transports passengers and cargo back to Amsterdam.
    • Service to Bengalรปru (India) has been suspended.

Specific travel restrictions and quarantine requirements remain in effect in many Asian countries. As this changes, scheduling within the network will need to be updated frequently throughout the winter season as well.

  • Middle East
    • In the summer of 2021, KLM will fly to seven destinations โ€“ the same number as in 2019.
    • KLM offers Riyad (Saudi Arabia) as a new destination, with flights departing twice a week in the summer season and, starting this winter, three times a week.
    • Service to Abu Dhabi has been suspended, although KLM offers this destination as a codeshare with Etihad Airways. The expectation is that Abu Dhabi will be reintroduced as a destination in winter 2021, thereby increasing the number of destinations to eight.

KLM’s North American destinations are restored to near 2019 level

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has made this announcement:

KLMโ€™s North American network of destinations is practically back to its 2019 level, before theย COVID-19 pandemic.ย However, the seating capacity and flight frequencies are still far below that of 2019. Although there are still significant travel restrictions in the US and Canada, the vaccination rate is increasing both overseas and in Europe, which should gradually reduce restrictions. KLM is prepared for an increase in demand and is ready to welcome its customers safely and responsibly.

The network of destinations is central to KLM’s strategy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, KLM preserved its network of destinations as much as possible by reducing seating capacity, so passengers could travel if necessary and cargo transportation was able to continue. This strategy greatly supported KLM during the COVID-19 crisis, which makes it much easier to now scale up its operations again.

Changes compared to 2019

  • There will be a total of 16 North American destinations in the summer of 2021. That is one destination less compared to the summer of 2019, namely Salt Lake City. However, KLM will continue to offer a direct flight from Amsterdam to Salt Lake City in cooperation with its partner Delta Air Lines.
  • KLM intends to add Las Vegas and Minneapolis over the summer, but this will depend on the end of travel restrictions between the United States and Europe.
  • In its winter schedule, which runs from 31 October 2021 through 26 March 2022, KLM will add two new destinations to its North American network: the Mexican resort city of Cancun and Orlando, Florida.
  • The frequency of flights to the destinations this summer will be lower than in the summer of 2019. Both the frequency and seating capacity vary per destination. Thanks to the increasing rate of vaccination and the gradual reopening of Europe and also the United States, we expect that these numbers will gradually increase. We are very agile when it comes to planning our network and of course we consider market demand.

KLM to add Orlando on the Miami route

"Lily", delivered on July 19, 2017

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has made this announcement:

After the previously announced expansions in Europe for summer 2021, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will also be adding new destinations to its intercontinental network on commencement of its winter schedule (October 31, 2021 to March 26, 2022). This ties in with KLMโ€™s strategy of first expanding its network where recovery will be quickest, offering customers the broadest possible choice of destinations. The new destinations include Orlando, Cancun, Bridgetown, Mombasa, Port of Spain and Phuket.

KLM will fly where it can, provided that variable costs are covered. With this strategy, KLM has been able to completely rebuild its network and offer customers the greatest possible choice of destinations.

KLM also strengthens its market position each time it adds a new destination to its network. In terms of intercontinental service, KLM will add a new route between Amsterdam and Orlando, starting October 31, up to 4 times a week, in a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Flight schedule

Orlando will be combined with Miami on the return journey to Amsterdam.

The flight schedule will be as follows:

KLM expands its intercontinental network this winter, adding six new destinations

Will become PH-BVV, "National Park Cocos Island"

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines made this announcement:

After the previously announced expansions in Europe for summer 2021, KLM will also be adding new destinations to its intercontinental network on commencement of its winter schedule (October 31, 2021 to March 26, 2022). This ties in with KLMโ€™s strategy of first expanding its network where recovery will be quickest, offering customers the broadest possible choice of destinations. The new destinations include Mombasa, Orlando, Cancun, Bridgetown, Port of Spain and Phuket.

The Kenyan beach destination of Mombasa will be served twice a week, operating Boeing 787-9 equipment. This aircraft type will also be used to operate flights to Orlando in Florida (four times a week) and to the Mexican beach resort of Cancun (three times a week). The Airbus A330 will fly customers to Bridgetown (Barbados, three times a week) and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago, three times a week). The Thai island of Phuket will be served with four flights a week, operating Boeing 777-300 equipment.

Network strategy

During the Covid-19 pandemic, KLM has done everything possible to maintain its network of destinations in order to continue carrying cargo and enabling passengers to travel when necessary โ€“ of course, in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by both the Dutch government and local authorities. KLM will continue to work closely with the Dutch government to uphold effective and proportionate measures tailored to the situation in the Netherlands and abroad.

This strategy has served KLM well throughout the Covid-19 crisis. With the general situation and outlook now improving, network expansion is back on the agenda, especially within and to regions where recovery will be quickest. The six new destinations fit the bill.

The aim is to offer KLMโ€™s customers the biggest network possible. Network planning must be flexible, enabling KLM to respond quickly to market opportunities. With this expansion, the network of destinations will almost reach its pre-Covid-19 level, only utilising less capacity, and fewer frequencies and aircraft. Once demand increases, we will operate more flights and/or deploy larger aircraft.

Flight schedules

Mombasa will be combined with Nairobi on the return journey to Amsterdam. This also applies to Orlando and Miami. Phuket will be served both to and from Amsterdam via Kuala Lumpur. Bridgetown and Port of Spain will be combined and Cancun will be a non-stop connection.

KLM is ready for the summer with four new European destinations

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Transavia Airlines Netherlands) Boeing 737-8K2 WL PH-HSE (msn 39259) ZRH (Rolf Wallner). Image: 939525.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has made this announcement:

Europe is gradually opening up again andย the Netherlands is preparing for more travel opportunities. KLM is ready to carry its customers again, both at home and abroad, in a responsible and safe manner. Towards the summer, KLMโ€™s European network of destinations will be built back up. As soon as it is possible,ย KLM will increase the frequency of flights to popular destinations, with higher capacities. New this summer are Belgrade, Verona, Palma de Mallorca and Dubrovnik.

KLM will fly where it can, provided that variable costs are covered. With this strategy, KLM has been able to completely rebuild its network and offer customers the greatest possible choice of destinations. This applies to both business travelers as well as holiday-goers. In the summer of 2019, KLM flew to 92 destinations, but this summer KLM will be offering 96 destinations.

Changes to destinations compared to 2019

Compared to the summer of 2019,ย a number of changes have been made to the network:

*ย Vรคxjรถ (Sweden) is temporarily suspended, and the destinationsย Marseille and Nantesย will once again be operated by Air France from Schiphol.

* Southampton, Poznan and Cork were added to the network earlier in 2021.ย In the 2021 summer schedule, KLM will be flying to four new European destinations, of which three are in the peak of the summer season:

  • Belgrade – from 13 May, up to 7 times a week
  • Verona – from 26 June, up to 7 times a week
  • Palma de Mallorca โ€“ from 26 June, up to 7 times a week
  • Dubrovnik โ€“ from 26 June, up to 7 times a week

Extra capacity to popular destinations

KLM will add flights or deploy larger aircraft to popular destinations like Porto and Ibiza in the months of July and August. Compared to previous years, KLM will deploy relatively more capacity to southern European destinations in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia and Greece. The expected capacity on the European flights will be 50% to 75%. However, this could still change. Color codes that apply to the destinations could change, as could the frequency of flights.

In other news, KLM is upgrading the cabins of its 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Air France-KLM: Travel restrictions still impacting the Groupโ€™s activity

Larger 2020 titles

Air France-KLM issued this financial report for the first quarter:

Over the first three months of the year, the Group continued to be negatively impacted by travel restrictions as the whole industry:

๏‚ท Revenue at 2.2 billion euros, down 57% compared to last year

๏‚ท EBITDA loss at -0.6 billion euros, mitigated due to strict cost control and national partial activity schemes

๏‚ท Operating result at -1.2 billion euros, down 0.4 billion euros compared to last year

๏‚ท Net income at -1.5 billion euros, after taking interest charges into account

๏‚ท Net debt at 12.5 billion euros, up 1.5 billion compared to end of 2020

๏‚ท At 31 March 2021, the Group has 8.5 billion euros of liquidity and credit lines at disposal

๏‚ท Early April 2021, first set of balance sheet strengthening measures successfully executed resulting in an increase of โ‚ฌ4bn equity and improved cash position by โ‚ฌ1bn

OUTLOOK

Due to the stricter lockdown in France until, at least beginning of May, continuation of the lockdown in the Netherlands and travel restrictions worldwide still in place, the Group anticipates the beginning of the second quarter to be similar to the first quarter whereby the customer booking behavior is still short-term oriented.

The key to reduce travel restrictions and reopen borders is a rapid roll-out of wide-scale vaccination. In the US, domestic demand is recovering rapidly due to the speed of the vaccination process.

In this context, the Group expects capacity in Available Seat kilometers circa index 50% for Air France-KLM in the Second quarter 2021 compared to 2019 for the Network passenger activity. During the second half of the second quarter the Group will progressively ramp up capacity given the vaccination deployment in Europe.

For the Third quarter the Group foresees a capacity in Available Seat kilometers index in the range of 55% to 65% compared to 2019 for the Network passenger activity thanks to estimated higher demand.

The Air France-KLM Group continues to work to strengthen its balance sheet. Additional measures of equity and quasi-equity instruments are currently under consideration. Extraordinary resolutions will be presented at the next Annual General Meeting, aiming to give the Board of Directors great flexibility to restore equity.

Transavia: Operating result โ€“120 million euros as impacted by Covid-19 crisis

The First quarter operating result ended -38 million euros lower compared to last year at an operational loss of -120 million euros, as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis with strict border restrictions in Europe and North Africa.

First quarter activity level was only around 20% of last yearโ€™s production, with a unit revenue down – 21.6% compared to 2020. Load factor at 57.6% was impacted by travel restrictions imposed. The production level of Transavia France was slightly higher at and index of 26 compared to 2020, thanks to the start of domestic routes.

Transavia plan to grow is still valid, well positioned to capture the leisure traffic recovery foreseen in the coming months towards the end of the summer, being a major opportunity for the Groupโ€™s competitiveness gain. The adding of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Transavia France fleet in the first quarter is part of this plan.

OUTLOOK

Due to the stricter lockdown in France until, at least beginning of May, continuation of the lockdown in the Netherlands and travel restrictions worldwide still in place, the Group anticipates a difficult start of the Second quarter whereby the customer booking behavior is still short-term oriented.

The key to reduce travel restrictions and reopen borders is a rapid roll-out of wide-scale vaccination. The vaccination pace in Europe is slower than in the US where the domestic demand recovers quickly thanks to the high speed vaccination process.

In this context the Group expects capacity in Available Seat kilometers circa index 50% for Air France-KLM in the Second quarter 2021 compared to 2019 for the Network passenger activity. During the second half of the second quarter the Group will progressively ramp up capacity given the vaccination deployment in Europe.

For the Third quarter the Group foresees a capacity in Available Seat kilometers between index 55% and 65% compared to 2019 for the Network passenger activity thanks to estimated higher demand.

At 31 March 2021, the Group has a 8.5 billion euros of liquidity and credit lines at disposal. This level can be considered comfortable, given the expected recovery in the summer, despite the cash requirements for 2021 which include:

๏‚ท Q2 2021 EBITDA expected to be in the same range as EBITDA Q1 2021

๏‚ท Capex spending inferior at 2.0 billion euros in 2021, but largely funded for fleet investments

๏‚ท Restructuring cash out at 0.5 billion euros in 2021, part of which is financed by the associated reduction in the wage bill

A first set of capital strengthening measures was successfully executed in April and resulted in an increase in equity of 4 billion euros and cash of 1 billion euros.

The Air France-KLM group continues to work on strengthening its balance sheet. Additional equity and quasi-equity measures are currently under consideration. Extraordinary resolutions will be presented at the next Annual General Meeting, aiming to give the Board of Directors great flexibility to restore equity and initiate the gradual refinancing of state aid and restore leverage ratio.

KLM introduces Wi-Fi on European flights

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 737-8K2 WL PH-BGA (msn 37593) ZRH (Rolf Wallner). Image: 941678.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has begun installing Wi-Fi technology on a number of aircraft of its Boeing 737 fleet. Starting today, passengers can get acquainted with using the Internet on KLM flights within Europe. The first Boeing 737-800 is now equipped to offer this service.

To achieve this, KLM has partnered with the communications company Viasat, which will supply and maintain the necessary technology. Viasatโ€™s Wi-Fi equipment will be installed on a total of eighteen Boeing 737-800s. The schedule calls for this installation to be completed by the end of this year.

“KLM continues to invest in the on-board product, so that we can continue to meet our customersโ€™ expectations and emerge from this crisis stronger than ever. On-board Wi-Fi is an important service that customers want to enjoy for the entire duration of their journey. KLMโ€™s internet service is already being used extensively on our intercontinental flights. Through this partnership with Viasat, we are ensuring that our customers can be online on European flights as well.”

Boet Kreiken, EVP Customer Experience

Free messaging

Internet connections are made possible by connecting passenger devices directly to Viasatโ€™s European satellite.ย During the flight, KLM offers a choice of three internet packages: Messaging, Surf and Stream.

Messaging allows passengers to send and receive messages via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, etc., free of charge. Those who want to use more data can pay a fee and select either Surf or Stream. Customers can choose the package that best suits their needs. Those who want to watch movies should choose Stream, while Surf offers enough data for those who just want to shop online or read news articles.

Passengers can purchase the Internet packages via the KLM Portal during their flight.

KLM Portal: greater flexibility and control over the journey

The KLM Portal provides access not only to the Internet, but also to upgrades for connecting and return flights; service in the event of delays and cancellations; and services offered by our travel partners, such as booking excursions. This offers the customer greater flexibility and control over their journey.

A passenger at risk of missing their connection due to a delay, for example, can rebook their next flight to one with a later departure time via the KLM Portal. And an Economy Class passenger who wants to fly Economy Comfort on the return trip can arrange this for themselves in the Portal on the way to their destination (if availability permits).

After connecting to the Wi-Fi network on board, a passenger will not only be able to access all functionalities of the KLM Portal, but will be able to use the KLM app and KLM.com at no charge as well. The Portal is the same on every aircraft, meaning customers will have a consistent user experience no matter where they are.

All intercontinental aircraft in 2022

KLM already offers Wi-Fi on board the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330 fleets and is currently installing it on the Boeing 777 aircraft. As it stands now, 81 per cent of the intercontinental fleet is equipped with an Internet connection. Passengers are expected to have Internet access on board all intercontinental aircraft by the first quarter of 2022.

Air France-KLM announces a plan of capital-strengthening measures with the objective of strengthening its balance sheet, preparing the recovery and repositioning the Group on a sustainable financial trajectory

Air France-KLM Group has made this announcement:

๏‚ท Air France-KLM has announced the following measures in relation to Air France, which have been approved by the European Commission in its decision to authorize a โ‚ฌ4 billion French State measures to recapitalize Air France and its Holding company:

๏€ญ A capital increase for an amount up to โ‚ฌ1 billion, with a priority subscription period for shareholders, subject to market conditions and the prior approval on the prospectus by the Autoritรฉ des marchรฉs financiers (the โ€œAMFโ€) and,

๏€ญ Simultaneously, conversion of the โ‚ฌ3 billion French State direct loan drawn into perpetual hybrid bonds instrument.

๏‚ท The Dutch State is continuing discussions with the European Commission regarding potential capital-strengthening measures for KLM.

๏‚ท Additional measures to further strengthen the Groupโ€™s capital are currently under consideration, with several steps to be taken before the 2022 Annual General Meeting.

On April 5 the Air France-KLM Groupโ€™s Board of Directors approved a plan to start the restoration of the Group’s negative equity and further reinforce its cash position:

Capital increase with priority subscription period for shareholders – The Group intends to launch a capital increase subject to market conditions and the approval on the prospectus by the AMF.

– This capital increase will be launched without preferential subscription rights but with a priority period for the shareholders, within the limits of the nineteenth resolution approved at the Annual General Meeting on May 26, 2020, allowing existing shareholders to not be diluted, by subscribing shares during the priority period up to their stake in Air France-KLMโ€™s share capital. The offering will be composed of a private placement to institutional investors, a public offering and a priority period allowing all shareholders to support this transaction.

– The French State commits to participate in the capital increase while keeping its stake strictly below 30% of the share capital and voting rights.

– China Eastern Airlines intends to participate while keeping its stake strictly below 10% of share capital, as part of further reinforcement of strategical cooperation with the Group.

– The Dutch State which holds 14.0% of the share capital, has informed the Group that it will not subscribe to this capital increase.

– Delta Air Lines which holds 8.8% of the share capital, has informed the Group that it will not subscribe to this capital increase due to the current framework of the CARES act in place in the United States.

– This operation will improve the Groupโ€™s equity by up to โ‚ฌ1 billion under IFRS and French GAAP accounting standards, and bring the same amount of new money to the Group for the benefit of Air France. Simultaneously, the fully drawn conversion of โ‚ฌ3 billion French State loan into perpetual hybrid bonds instrument (โ€œSuper Subordinated Notesโ€):

– The โ‚ฌ3 billion direct loan provided by the French State to Air France via Air FranceKLM late in May 2020 will be converted into Super-Subordinated Notes of the same nominal amount to Air France via Air France-KLM, allowing the Group to restore part of its equity under IFRS accounting standards.

– This operation will improve the Groupโ€™s equity by โ‚ฌ3 billion under IFRS accounting standards with no cash impact, while increasing the Groupโ€™s flexibility in its mandatory debt redemption profile spread over time (with Non Call period ranging from 4 to 6 years).

The Dutch State approved this set of actions and indicated that it was continuing discussions with the European Commission on potential capital- strengthening measures for KLM.

Together with the expected recovery in EBITDA, this first step of capital-strengthening measures will progressively help the Group to reduce the Net Debt/EBITDA ratio below 3.0x by 2023.

Additional measures to further strengthen the balance sheet are currently under consideration with several steps to be taken before the 2022 Annual General Meeting, as the Groupโ€™s net equity will remain negative after this first step.

These measures could include the issuances of appropriate amounts of new equity as well as proportionate quasi-equity instruments, subject to market conditions. The hybrid perpetual bond instruments fully subscribed by the French State and resulting from this first step recapitalization could be used to compensate in part, by way of netting, to future equity and or quasi-equity raisings by the Group.

The objective of such additional measures will be to further reinforce the Groupโ€™s equity situation and reduce its Net Debt/EBITDA ratio circa 2.0x by 2023. In order to achieve this, specific delegations would be then required and submitted at the Groupโ€™s next General Meeting, scheduled on May 26.

Commitments made in order to comply with the European Commissionโ€™s โ€œTemporary Framework for State aid measures to support the economy in the current Covid-19 outbreakโ€ (TF).

Air France-KLM will be subject to commitments made by the French government in order to comply with the European Commissionโ€™s โ€œTemporary Framework for State aid measures to support the economy in the current Covid-19 outbreakโ€ (TF).

These commitments, specifically paragraphs 60-61 and 71-78 of the TF, include Air Franceโ€™s release of up to 18 take-off and landing rights (slots) at Paris-Orly airport to a competing carrier in order to create or develop an existing base at that airport, provided that the competing carrier obtaining Air Franceโ€™s slots bases its aircraft and crews at Paris-Orly airport, in compliance with national and EU labour laws. Other general commitments were made under the TF, including restrictions on acquisitions, share buy-backs dividend distributions and executive managementโ€™s remuneration. These commitments are applicable to the entire Group with the exception of KLM and its subsidiaries.

The Group has reiterated the economic, financial and environmental commitments made in the framework of the State loan and reflected in its transformation plan. The Group therefore maintains an ambitious environmental roadmap to accelerate the Group’s sustainable transition, in line with the objectives of the National Low Carbon Strategy (Stratรฉgie Nationale Bas Carbone โ€œSNBCโ€).

โ€œTodayโ€™s announcement demonstrates both the strong commitment of the French State and the renewed support of the Dutch State to help the Group weather this pandemic and this crisis,โ€ said Anne-Marie Couderc, Chair of Air France-KLM Board of Directors. โ€œThe commitment of our long-standing partner China Eastern Airlines to participate in the forthcoming capital increase also highlights a resolute confidence in the strengths and prospects of the Air France-KLM Group.โ€

โ€œThese first recapitalization measures are an important milestone for our Group in this exceptionally challenging period,โ€ said Air France-KLM Group CEO, Benjamin Smith. โ€œThey will provide Air France-KLM with greater stability to move forward when recovery starts, as large-scale vaccination progresses around the world and borders reopen. Ensuring Air FranceKLM maintains a sustainable financial trajectory is paramount to realizing our strategic plan, continuing the execution of our transformation plans at the Group and at our airlines. I would like to thank our employees for their engagement and their responsibility throughout this crisis. We will continue to work together to drive new efficiencies as we seek to lower unit costs and emerge stronger when the industry rebounds with the ambition to achieve European leadershipโ€.

Outlook for Q1

As expected, the Air France – KLM Group continued to be negatively impacted by the COVID crisis during the first quarter of 2021, notably by the surge of a third wave of the pandemic in several European countries and by the continuation of air travel restrictions taken by a significant number of countries.

Based on the accounting results of January and February and on the reforecast made at the end of each month, the Group expects the operating result for the first quarter of 2021 to be around EUR -1.3 billion, and EBITDA to be around EUR -750 million, below Q4 2020 EBITDA as indicated at full year 2020 results presentation. It should be noted that in the first two months of 2021, operating result and EBITDA were significantly better than the Group’s budgeted assumptions, and capital expenditure was also 10% below budget over that period, reflecting the effective control introduced by management on CAPEX, allowing the Group to have a solid 8.8 billion euros of liquidity and credit lines at disposal at 28 February 2021.

Over the coming months, and in particular at the beginning of the summer, the Group still expects a significant recovery in demand, assuming the positive effects of the accelerated vaccination campaigns in several countries could trigger less stringent restrictions on passenger travel across those countries.
