VivaColombia to fly internationally to Balboa, Panama

VivaColombia (Medellin) is launching its first international routes to Balboa, Panama. The low fare airline will start daily flights to the former Howard Air Force Base, now known as the Panama Pacific International Airport in Balboa, Panama (BLB) (near Panama City) on August 1 from both Bogota and Medellin.

VivaColombia is the first and only low-cost airline in Colombia. It started operations on May 25, 2012, from the Jose Maria Cordova Airport located in Rionegro, in the state of Antioquia.

United to start nonstop Denver-Panama City, Panama flights on December 3

United Airlines (Chicago) will start a new international route from its Denver hub to Panama City, Panama on December 3. The new route will be operated daily with Boeing 737-700s per Airline Route.

United to start nonstop Denver-Panama City, Panama flights on December 3

United Airlines (Chicago) today announced that it will introduce nonstop flights between its hub at Denver International Airport and Panama City beginning on December 3, subject to government approval with flights available for sale at a later date. The new service will operate daily November through August and five times weekly in September and October, offering Denver-area travelers direct access to the Panamanian capital and connections to several additional cities in Central and South America through United’s strategic partnership with Copa Airlines.

United will operate the service with Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 118 seats โ€“ 12 in United Business and 106 in United Economy, including 40 Economy Plus extra-legroom seats.

United Airlines is Denver’s largest airline, offering more flights and more seats from the Mile High City to more destinations around the world than any other carrier. The airline offers more than 375 flights each day from Denver International Airport to more than 10 destinations in Latin America, Canada and Asia โ€“ as well as service to top business centers in North America.

United has a proud history in Denver, serving the community for over 75 years. The airline is a proud partner of the Colorado Symphony, the Denver Public Schools Foundation, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Latin American Education Foundation and the Denver Broncos.

TAP Portugal to open a new route to Bogota and Panama City in July, will add two ATR 42-600s

TAP Portugal (Lisbon) will be flying to Bogotรก and Panama City four times a week starting in July. The new will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with flights departing from Lisbon at 12 noon (1200) and arriving in Bogotรก at 3:55 pm (1555). The flight then leaves for Panamรก at 4:55 pm (1655), arriving there at 6:25 pm (1825). The return flight departs for Lisbon at 7:40 pm (1940), where it arrives at 11:00 am (1100) the following day (all local times).

The new route will operate with Airbus A330-200 aircraft with a seating capacity of 268.

TAP Portugal starting on July 1 will introduce new ATR 42-600 aircraft, replacing Beechcraft 1900Ds. TAP is also adding new service to Oviedo. The airline issued this statement:

TAP has announced the eleventh new route it will launch in 2014. The new route will connect Lisbon and Oviedo from July 1.

The launch of the Oviedo service has been made possible because of an important change to the fleet operated by PGA โ€” Portugรกlia Airlines (Lisbon), with the replacement of two 19-seater Beechcraft 1900D aircraft with two 46-seat ATR 42-600s, which also have a longer range.

Oviedo will become the eighth Spanish city with direct TAP flights, joining Madrid and Barcelona (which have direct flights from Lisbon, Porto and Funchal), Seville, La Coruรฑa, Bilbao, Malaga and Valencia.
In 2013, TAP carried 944,000 passengers between Portugal and Spain, a 6% increase from 2012.

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport opens for business

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (RCP/KECP) (Panama City, FL) opened yesterday (May 23)ย with service from Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The new airport is the first international commercial service airport built in the United States in the last 15 years. The St. Joe Company donated 4,000 acres within its 75,000-acre West Bay Sector Plan for the airportโ€™s construction.

Southwest commenced service at the new airport with two daily non-stop flights to Houston, Nashville, Orlando and Baltimore-Washington DC. Delta Air Lines, which has served the existing airport for many years, expanded its service to the region with larger aircraft.
