Carpatair to add three Fokker 70s starting in December

Carpatair (Timisoara) will add three 72-seat Fokker F.28 Mk. 0070s (Fokker 70s). The first (YR-KMA) will be delivered in December with second in February 2010 and the third the following month. The new type will join the current fleet of SAAB 2000s and the pictured Fokker F.28 Mk. 0100s.

Bmi to return Airbus A330s, will also end long-haul flights

Bmi (British Midland Airways) (East Midlands and London Heathrow) will return its Airbus A330-200s and will end its long-haul services in an attempt to reduce its losses. The company will cut 600 jobs, reduce its fleet by nine aircraft and cut seven routes (including Tel Aviv and Kiev).

Stuffed toilets forces Cathay Pacific to divert Hong Kong-bound flights

Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) is noticing an upswing in stuffed toilets on flights bound for its HKG base. According to this BBC report one flight from Riyadh had to divert to Mumbai after all 10 toilets were blocked.

Uzbekistan Airways takes delivery of its fourth Ilyushin Il-114

Uzbekistan Airways (Tashkent) has taken delivery of its fourth 52-seat Ilyushin Il-114-100 turboprop. Four more are on order which will allow the flag carrier to retire the remaining Antonov An-24s and Yak-40s.

Insel Air modifies its livery with larger titles

Insel Air International (Curacao) with the delivery of its third jetliner, modified its 2006 livery to now include much larger Insel Air titles.

US Airways to defer 54 Airbus deliveries

US Airways (Phoenix) will defer the delivery of 54 Airbus aircraft from the 2010-2012 period to 2013 and beyond. The A350 XWB first delivery will be deferred from 2015 to 2017.

United to start seasonal Chicago O’Hare-Rome flights

United Airlines (Chicago) will start summer service to Rome from Chicago (O’Hare) starting on May 1, 2010 running through August 31, 2010. The new route will be operated with Boeing 767-300s.

Baltia Air Lines takes delivery of its first Boeing 747-400

Baltia Air Lines (New York-JFK) has finally taken delivery of its first Boeing 747-400. The upstart is coming one step closer to becoming a real airline. The new airline intends to start service on the New York (JFK)-St. Petersburg (Russia) route (which can be very seasonal).
