Delta introduces its new crew uniforms

Delta Air Lines made this announcement:

May 29 marks the introduction of the global carrierโ€™s regal, Passport Plum look featuring Landsโ€™ End quality.

As the sun rises in cities around the world this morning, a new uniform collection makes its first public appearance on 64,000 Delta Air Lines employees in airplanes, airports and hangars from Sydney to Honolulu.

Created by fashion authority and acclaimed designer Zac Posen and built with Lands’ End quality, these designs embrace innovative fit, form and function, carrying Delta into the future in style.

This collection makes a strong brand statement, elevating Delta from the look of a traditional U.S. carrier and introducing glamour and sophistication while offering the ease of machine-washable care for the carrierโ€™s always on-the-go employees. Deltaโ€™s last uniform update was in 2006 for above-wing employees (Delta Sky Club, ticketing and gate agents, Red Coats and flight attendants) and in 2000 for below-wing employees (aircraft maintenance professionals, ramp and cargo agents, and ground service equipment mechanics).

โ€œWe are happy to provide this level of quality, style and global sophistication to the professional men and women who represent Delta so well every day,โ€ said Ed Bastian, Deltaโ€™s Chief Executive Officer. โ€œThe new Delta uniform collection offers unity between all workgroups like never before. We are one proud Delta team and it really shows.โ€

The uniform collection reflects employee input at each step of the design process. For three months, 1,000 Delta people in diverse roles around the globe tested the uniforms to ensure the final designs would support a variety of job functions, climates and body types. The Zac Posen and Landsโ€™ End design teams conducted hundreds of focus groups, job-shadowed employees and gathered recommendations from more than 30,000 surveys. All of this and more feedback led to more than 170 changes.

The uniforms for above-wing employees, designed by Zac Posen, are an iconic move for the Delta brand. Posen and team took care to incorporate innovative fabrics and technologies. They introduced unexpected, signature details like the collar of the womenโ€™s blouse inspired by the wing of an airplane, and functional touches based on employee suggestions like passport and pen pockets.

โ€œIt was an honor to design for an iconic global aviation brand and I wanted to bring back glamour to the runway while introducing innovative technologies in the uniforms,โ€ said Posen, fashion designer and television personality. โ€œIt was integral for my research and design to be part of the Delta employeesโ€™ daily tasks through job shadowing and direct feedback from frontline people. I wanted to create uniforms with all of the best and latest fabrications, while introducing new coloring and shapes to have the Delta crew stand out while looking like one team. The final designs were created to feel empowering and elegant yet comfortable. I am so proud of what we have achieved together. These uniforms symbolize a new era for Delta on a global scale.โ€

Passport Plum โ€“ a shade that flatters every skin tone โ€“ marks the new, regal collection. For 30 years, Deltaโ€™s uniforms have been navy and red, blending in with other U.S. carriers while Deltaโ€™s service has continued to stand out for its excellence. Now, with five wholly reimagined hues – ย Passport Plum, Cruising Cardinal, Groundspeed Graphite, Traveling Thistle and Skyline Slate – Delta people will look as noteworthy as their service.

For top quality, Delta put the legendary service and style of Landsโ€™ End to work for the new uniforms. Landsโ€™ End delivered Posenโ€™s above-wing designs with cutting-edge materials that look effortlessly elegant. Landsโ€™ End drew inspiration from this collection to create and manufacture designs for Deltaโ€™s below-wing employees. Meticulous attention to detail was applied throughout the process, resulting in thoughtful touches like lightweight, breathable rain gear and gripper technology in the waistband to keep shirts tucked.

โ€œThese uniforms were built to keep Delta employees safe, comfortable and always ready to fly,โ€ said Jerome Griffith, Chief Executive Officer and President, Landsโ€™ End. โ€œWeโ€™re honored that Delta turned to Landsโ€™ End for our legendary service, style and quality to outfit their employees worldwide. Our talented team drew inspiration from Posenโ€™s designs to create cohesive styles for Deltaโ€™s below-wing employees, while producing both collections with meticulous attention to detail in high-quality, innovative fabrics and materials.โ€

Innovation is a brand promise for Delta and the uniform team chose fabrics at the pinnacle of fashion technology with ripstop, high-stretch, wrinkle-and-stain-resistant, water repellant and waterproof, deodorizing, windproof, anti-static and moisture-wicking properties. To keep Delta people safe, safety vests were equipped with metalized prismatic reflective tape twice as bright as other airlines.

Delta and third-party consultants audited every factory producing even the smallest elements of the new uniform, completing extensive testing to ensure employee comfort and safety with fabrics of the highest quality.

The collection is inaugurated today by runway shows starting in Atlanta, moving to Minneapolis and wrapping in Los Angeles with a celebration of Delta uniforms through the decades. Customers may even be surprised by pop-up fashion shows with the designer onboard at 30,000 feet.

As the uniforms debut in airports around the world this morning, tune inย to Delta News Hub to catch their first moments.

On May 28, 2018, the Latvian airlineย airBalticย and Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced that the parties have executed a firm purchase agreement for the sale and purchase of 30 Bombardier CS300 aircraft with options for an additional 30 aircraft of the same type.

This order complements the existing order of 20 CS300 aircraft and forms the backbone of the new airBalticโ€™s business plan Destination 2025 that builds on the successful progress of the current airlineโ€™s business plan Horizon 2021, which has laid the groundwork for future expansion.

We are now commencing the implementation of the next phase of our business strategy โ€“ Destination 2025, which foresees airBaltic expanding the map of our operations. A critical part of this new strategy is the introduction of a larger and exclusive fleet of all-CS300 aircraft, which are the most suitable aircraft for the markets in which we operate,โ€ M.Gauss added.ย

The new business plan Destination 2025 relies on expansion of routes from all three Baltic countries โ€“ Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, covering essentially the main European cities. The strategy also foresees that airBaltic will achieve a significant increase in passenger numbers and its revenue by 2025. The most successful airlines in Europe operate uniform fleet of larger scale, supported by cost efficient operations. airBaltic thus will have all ingredients to enable stable future of the company.ย

โ€œ2017 was the most successful year in the history of airBaltic during which the company achieved exceptional operational and financial results. This serves as a solid proof of the success of the strategy and operating model of the airline. The new order is the largest investment in Latviaโ€™s history and plays an important role in the development of the air infrastructure of the Baltic region with wide-ranging effects on the exports, economy and jobs,โ€ said Uldis Augulis, Minister of Transport, Republic of Latvia.ย

Deliveries pertaining to this new order are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2019. Prior to this order, airBaltic had ordered 20 CS300 aircraft. Currently the airline is operating revenue service with eight CS300 aircraft, and is expected to take delivery of 12 more by 2019. Based on the list price of the CS300 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately US$ 2.9 billion. This amount would increase to nearly US$5.9 billion should all 30 purchase rights be exercised.ย

airBaltic serves over 70 routes from Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius, offering the largest variety of destinations and convenient connections via Riga to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East. For summer 2018, airBaltic has introduced eight new destinations from Riga to Malaga, Lisbon, Split, Bordeaux, Gdansk, Almaty as well as Sochi and Kaliningrad. In addition, airBaltic launched a new direct route connecting Tallinn and London.ย

Sunwing Airlines takes delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 MAX 8

First Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 for Sunwing

Sunwing Airlines has announced the delivery of their first brand-new Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft. The aircraft is the first of four new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft acquired by North Americaโ€™s largest vertically integrated travel company as part of a lease agreement concluded with Air Lease Corporation in late 2014. The $350 million deal also included the acquisition of two further Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The second Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will be delivered the following week, with the remaining two 737 MAX planes anticipated to be delivered in 2019.

โ€œThe 737 MAX 8 aircraft is an integral part of Sunwingโ€™s overall expansion plans across an increasing number of both Canadian and U.S. gateways and illustrates the evolution of the company,โ€ said Mark Williams, President of Sunwing Airlines. โ€œSunwing may have increased in scale, however, what drove the company in the early 2000s is still central to our business today โ€“ in particular, the airlineโ€™s commitment to its passengers that when they travel with Sunwing, they travel with an award-winning airline and one of Canadaโ€™s most modern fleets.โ€

โ€œSunwing already flies one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient airplane fleets in Canada and now they take another leap forward with the Boeing 737 MAX, a new jet that can fly farther, use less fuel and provide greater passenger comfort,โ€ said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Sales for The Americas. โ€œCongratulations to the Sunwing team. We are confident their new MAX airplanes will bring more Canadians to and from exceptional vacations in the sun.โ€

John L. Plueger, Chief Executive Officer and President of Air Lease Corporation also welcomed the news adding, โ€œALC is delighted to be delivering the very first MAX 8 into Sunwingโ€™s fleet. ย This state of the art new aircraft will bring significantly expanded capability, efficiency, and environmental friendliness to Sunwingโ€™s growing network as well as usher in a new level of customer service and experience.โ€

This newest 737 arrival brings the latest technology to the most popular jet aircraft of all time and will enable Sunwing to offer reliable, cost-effective and environmentally-conscious service โ€“ something that is paramount for the brand. A next-generation aircraft, the 737 MAX 8 is expected to reduce Sunwingโ€™s carbon footprint even further. The MAX uses less fuel and reduces CO2 emissions by 20% compared to the older aircraft that it replaces.

Flying from the Boeing head office in Seattle, Washington, the delivery flight was piloted by Ron Henry, one of Sunwingโ€™s first pilots, flying Canadians to and from their holidays since the companyโ€™s inception, and First Officer, Jessalyn Teed, a recent graduate hired through Sunwingโ€™s cadet program in partnership with the University of Waterloo. ย The flight carried executives from Sunwing and select media guests who were invited to experience the new aircraftโ€™s aerodynamic design, elevated passenger comfort, mood lighting and sleek technology.

Sunwing has more flights to the south than any other leisure carrier with convenient direct service from 33 gateways across Canada to over 45 popular sun destinations.ย  All Sunwing packages include return flights on Sunwing Airlines where passengers can sit back and relax on board with award-winning inflight service that includes a sparkling wine toast, complimentary non-alcoholic beverage service and buy on board selection of light meals and snacks with choices inspired by Food Network Canada Celebrity Chef, Lynn Crawford. Passengers also benefit from a generous complimentary 23kg checked luggage allowance.
