United’s first Boeing 777-300ER, named “New Spirit of United”, is set to take flight

United Airlines made this announcement on January 17, 2017 about its first Boeing 777-300ER:

Next month, a brand-new United Airlines plane will push back from the gate with a new name: “New Spirit of United.” This special aircraft is also the company’s first Boeing 777-300ER featuring the United Polaris all-aisle access, lie-flat seat. It represents a commitment to the future and the commencement of an exciting new chapter for the company as it builds the best airline in the world.

“This aircraft symbolizes the new spirit, the energy and enthusiasm that I have seen in our employees who take great pride in the work they are doing to take care of our customers and one another,” said Oscar Munoz, chief executive officer of United Airlines. “The new 777-300ER fleet will play a crucial role in connecting our customers to far-away destinations and to the moments that matter most.”

The “New Spirit of United” is exemplified by the significant progress the company made in operational reliability last year – achieving its best full-year on-time performance in company history, the elevated customer experience and the completion of new agreements with every domestic unionized work group in 2016. As United Airlines continues to build on this momentum, this new aircraft serves as a symbol of the hard work, professionalism and dedication of the entire United team to our customers.

As previously reported, the new aircraft will start regularly scheduled service on February 16, 2017 initially between the Newark and San Francisco hubs.

This is the first of 14 777-300ER aircraft United expects to place into service in 2017.

Internationally, the new type is expected to enter service on March 25, 2017 between San Francisco and Hong Kong. The 366-seat 777 is replacing a 374-seat Boeing 747-400.

As previously announced, all United Boeing 747-400s will now be replaced and retired by late 2017.

Iran Air orders 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, 15 777-300ERs and 15 777-9 Dreamliners

Boeing and Iran Air on December 11, 2016 announced an agreement for 80 aircraft that includes 50 737 MAX 8s, 15 777-300ERs and 15 777-9 Dramliners, valued at $16.6 billion at list prices.

Based on its Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Iran Air announced in June 2016, the contract was reached within the terms of the U.S. Government license issued to Boeing in September.

Air China finalizes its order for six additional Boeing 777-300 ERs

Air China (Beijing) and Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) has announced an order for six additional 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jetliners. The order is valued at more than $2 billion at current list prices and bolsters Air China’s long-haul widebody fleet as it looks to expand its international network.

China’s flag carrier continues to modernize its long-haul fleet to replace aging aircraft and plans to expand its growing network internationally. Air China currently operates a fleet 174 Boeing airplanes, including nearly all current Boeing production models, including the Next-Generation 737, 747-8 Intercontinental as well as 777-300 ERs.

With this new order, Air China will increase its unfilled airplane orders with Boeing to 90 units, which include orders for new 787-9 Dreamliners.

Air Canada to become the launch customer of Boeing’s new landing gear exchange program

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) has announced that Air Canada (Montreal) is the launch customer for Boeing’s new landing gear exchange programs for 777-300 ER (Extended Range) and 777-200 LR (Longer Range) airframes.

Under the agreement, Air Canada will receive fully overhauled and certified landing gear shipsets for its fleet of 17 777-300 ERs and six 777-200 LRs during scheduled maintenance cycles. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Boeing currently provides landing gear overhaul and exchange solutions to more than 80 customers on the MD-11, 717, Next-Generation 737, Boeing Business Jet, 747-400, 757-300, 767-300 ER and the 777-200 ER airframes. With a Boeing global network of repair service centers, airline customers receive certified landing gear support anywhere around the world. Boeing provides quick, reliable access to landing gear repair, exchanges and overhauls, which greatly reduces maintenance time and quickly returns airplanes to revenue service.

In addition to its Landing Gear Overhaul and Exchange Program, Boeing provides expendable, rotable, repairable and consumable parts to customers around the globe, giving them a competitive edge in their markets. Products and services include Boeing-proprietary, industry-standard and vendor-proprietary parts; leasing options; and repair and overhaul services.

Intrepid Aviation orders six Boeing 777-300 ERs

Boeing (Chicago and Seattle) and Intrepid Aviation today announced the leasing company’s first direct Boeing order for six 777-300 ERs (Extended Range), valued at $1.9 billion at current list prices.

Intrepid also has the option to purchase an additional four 777s. If all options are exercised, the value of today’s announcement could reach more than $3.2 billion at list prices.

Intrepid Aviation is a privately held commercial aircraft lessor, which owns commercial aircraft leased to airline operators worldwide. Intrepid Aviation focuses primarily on twin-engine widebody equipment, such as the Boeing 787 and 777.

Air Lease orders six Boeing 777-300 ERs and 20 737 MAX 8s

Boeing (Chicago and Seattle) and Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) announced today an order for 26 airplanes – six 777-300 ER (Extended Range) and reconfirmed 20 737 MAX 8 airplanes, valued at $3.9 billion at current list prices.

This 737 MAX order for 20 airplanes, valued at more than $2 billion at current list prices, brings Air Lease Corporation’s combined orders for the 737 MAX to 104 airplanes. The 777-300 ER order, valued at more than $1.9 billion at current list prices, marks the 100th 777 order from ALC Chairman and CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy during his career in the industry.

The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. The 737 MAX 8 provides customers with more flexibility and cost efficiency than the competition in the heart of the single-aisle market. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see an 8 percent operating cost per seat advantage over tomorrow’s competition. The 737 MAX has surpassed 2,000 orders from 42 customers, the fastest selling airplane in history.

Ethiopian Airlines takes delivery of its first Boeing 777-300 ER via GECAS, enters service today

Boeing (Chicago) has delivered a 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jet to GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for lease to Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa). The 777-300 ER is now the largest airplane in the Ethiopian flag-carrier’s fleet and will provide it with increased capacity and improved operating economics on key routes from its base in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The pictured 777-36N ER ET-APX (msn 42101) was handed over on November 7 as scheduled.

Ethiopian’s first 777-300 ER will seat nearly 400 passengers in a two-class configuration and perfectly complements its existing fleet of six 777-200 LR (Longer Range) airplanes by providing additional capacity and flexibility on popular routes, such as Guangzhou, Washington, D.C. and Dubai.

The 777-300 ER can fly up to 7,825 nautical miles (14,490 kilometers) and is equipped with GE90-115B engines, the world’s most powerful commercial jet engine. Ethiopian’s 777-300ER also features the Boeing Signature Interior that offers wider seats, wider aisles, more headroom and more seating flexibility.

Ethiopian currently serves 76 destinations across five continents and was recently awarded African Business of the Year at the annual African Business Awards. The carrier’s partnership with Boeing stretches back over six decades, with a current fleet of nearly 50 Boeing airplanes that includes Next-Generation 737s, 757s, 767s, 777s, and 787 Dreamliners and a cargo fleet that includes 757s, 777 Freighters and a MD-11.

The airline issued this statement:

Ethiopian Airlines, the fastest growing and most profitable African airline, took delivery of the first of its four Boeing 777-300 ERs on November 7, 2013. The Boeing 777-300 ER is the largest aircraft in the airline’s fleet with 400 passengers seating capacity.

Ethiopian Boeing 777-300 ER will operate in its dense routes such as Guangzhou, Washington D.C., Dubai and Luanda. The aircraft is scheduled to serve the Addis Ababa – Luanda route three times a week, as of November 10, 2013, and three times a week on the Addis Ababa – Guangzhou route, as of November 15, 2013.

Ethiopian, which is a multi-award winning Pan-African carrier as the Passenger Choice “Best Airline in Africa” and the SKYTRAX “Best Staff Service in Africa” of 2013, will phase in three additional B777-300ERs in January 2014, May and June 2015.
