Air Canada to acquire 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft, will fly every model of the 787

Air Canada today said it has placed a firm order with The Boeing Company for 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft. Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled to begin in Q4 2025 with the last aircraft scheduled for delivery in Q1 2027. They will be used to replace older, less efficient wide-body aircraft currently in the Air Canada fleet. The agreement also includes options for another 12 Boeing 787-10 aircraft, which will provide flexibility for growth to meet future customer demand.

Air Canada currently operates 30 787-9 and eight 787-8 versions of the Dreamliner, with two more 787-9 aircraft scheduled for delivery from a previous order. The 787-10 is the largest model of the Dreamliner family and can carry more than 330 customers depending on the seat configuration, and has 175 cubic meters (6,187 cubic feet) of cargo volume. The Dreamliner provides exceptional passenger comfort with enhanced cabin pressurization and humidity controls, and the largest dimmable windows of any commercial aircraft. According to Boeing, the 787-10 has up to 25 per cent lower fuel emissions per seat than the aircraft it replaces.

Fleet Renewal

The acquisition of the new aircraft is part of an ongoing fleet renewal program at Air Canada, with the airline continuing to take delivery of new Airbus A220 aircraft, as well as plans to acquire 28 extra-long range (XLR) versions of the Airbus A321neo aircraft, also beginning in 2025. In addition, as previously announced, Air Canada has finalized a purchase agreement for 30 ES-30 electric-hybrid aircraft under development by Heart Aerospace, which are expected to enter service in 2028.

The Boeing 787-10 aircraft order announced with Boeing today substitutes for a previously announced agreement to purchase two Boeing 777 freighter aircraft and, as a result, Air Canada will no longer take delivery of the two freighters.

In total, Air Canada currently operates approximately 240 aircraft in its mainline and Air Canada Rouge fleet.

Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner completes its first flight

The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner took to the skies for the first time on March 31, 2017 at Boeing South Carolina. The airplane, which is the newest and longest model of the 787 family, completed a successful flight totaling four hours and 58 minutes.

Boeing continued;

Piloted by Boeing Test & Evaluation Capts. Tim Berg and Mike Bryan, the airplane performed tests on flight controls, systems and handling qualities. The 787-10 will now undergo comprehensive flight testing before customer deliveries begin in the first half of 2018.

The 787-10 has won 149 orders from nine customers across the globe including launch customer Singapore Airlines, Air Lease Corporation (ALC), All Nippon Airways (ANA), British Airways, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and United Airlines.

As an 18-foot (5.5-m) stretch of the 787-9, the 787-10 will deliver the 787 family’s preferred passenger experience and long range with 25 percent better fuel per seat and emissions than the airplanes it will replace and 10 percent better than today’s competition.

The 787 Dreamliner family is a key part of Boeing’s twin-aisle airplane strategy, which offers a modern, optimized and efficient airplane family in every market segment. Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family has flown more than 152 million people on over 560 unique routes around the world, saving an estimated 14 billion pounds of fuel.

Boeing rolls out the first 787-10 Dreamliner

The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, the third member of the 787 Dreamliner family, made its debut on February 17, 2017 at Boeing South Carolina.

The 787-10, built exclusively at Boeing South Carolina, will now be prepared for its first flight in the coming weeks.

Boeing will deliver the 787-10 to airlines in 2018. The airplane has won 149 orders from nine customers across the globe.

The 787-10, the longest model of the Dreamliner family, will grow the nonstop routes opened by the 787-8 and 787-9 with unprecedented efficiency. As an 18-foot (5.5-m) stretch of the 787-9, the 787-10 will deliver the 787 family’s preferred passenger experience and long range with up to 10 percent better fuel use and emissions than the competition. The 787 Dreamliner family is a key part of Boeing’s twin-aisle strategy, which offers a modern, optimized and efficient airplane family in every market segment. Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family has flown more than 140 million people on 530 routes around the world, saving an estimated 13 billion pounds of fuel.

EVA Air to lease four Boeing 787-9s and two 787-10s from ALC

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) has announced long term lease agreements with EVA Air (Taipei) for four new Boeing 787-9s and two new Boeing 787-10s. These aircraft are from ALC’s Dreamliner order book with Boeing and will deliver from mid-2018 through early 2020. These placements will bring the number of new Boeing widebody aircraft that EVA Air will lease from ALC to ten, including four Boeing 777-300 ERs already contracted.

Boeing completes the detailed design for the 787-10 Dreamliner

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) has completed detailed design for the 787-10 Dreamliner, achieving another major milestone in the development of the newest and longest member of the 787 family. Boeing engineers reached the key milestone nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.

The milestone is critical to every development program because it means the information needed to build parts and tools for assembly has been completed and released for fabrication or procurement. Major assembly of the 787-10 will begin in 2016, followed by first flight in 2017 and first delivery in 2018.

As a straightforward stretch of the 787-9, which entered service in 2014, Boeing designed the 787-10 for superior efficiency as well as maximum commonality. Ninety-five percent of the design and build of the 787-10 and 787-9 will be identical, reducing complexity, cost and risk across the production system and providing operational benefits to customers.

The 787-10 is the third and longest member of the 787 family. With a range of 6,430 nautical miles (11,910 km), the 787-10 will cover more than 90 percent of the world’s twin-aisle routes at a whole new level of fuel efficiency: 25 percent more fuel efficient than the airplanes it will replace and at least 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.

To date, the 787-10 has logged 164 orders from nine customers around the world, accounting for 14 percent of all 787 orders.

Boeing and EVA Air finalize an order for up to 24 787 Dreamliners and two 777-300 ERs

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and EVA Airways (EVA Air) (Taipei) today finalized a historic order for up to 24 787 Dreamliners (18 787-10s and 6 787-9s) and two 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jetliners (below). The order, valued at more than $8 billion at current list prices, marks the largest single commercial airplane purchase in Taiwan aviation.

EVA Airways becomes the newest Dreamliner customer and will join the 787-10 launch customer team as one of the first airlines in the world to introduce the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family.

EVA Airways continues to modernize its long-haul fleet to replace aging aircraft and plans to grow its fleet to more than 100 units by 2020. These new 787-10 Dreamliners will allow the airline to expand into new markets. They will be deployed on medium-range and long-haul flights and will be operated in tandem with the 777-300 ERs to form the backbone of EVA Airways’ fleet.

EVA Airways currently operates more than 40 Boeing airplanes and with today’s order, the airline’s backlog will increase to 37 airplanes, which includes fourteen 777-300ERs, five 777 Freighters and eighteen 787-10s.

EVA Airways’ 777-300 ER fleet continues to grow and the carrier is the world’s eighth largest 777-300 ER operator in the world and fourth largest in Asia.

The 787-10 will be 25 percent better in fuel and emissions than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.

EVA Air (EVA Airways) (Taipei) intends to purchase up to 24 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and two additional 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jetliners, which is valued at more than $8 billion at current list prices. EVA Airways will join the 787-10 launch customer team and will be one of the first airlines in the world to introduce the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family.

Once the deal is finalized, Boeing will post the order on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries website.

The airline currently operates more than 37 Boeing airplanes in its fleet, including 21 777-300 ERs. The 777-300 ER is the backbone of EVA Airways’ growing fleet and the carrier is the world’s 8th largest 777-300ER operator and 4th largest in Asia.

With its intent to purchase two additional 777-300 ERs as part of this deal, EVA Airways will have unfilled orders for 15 777-300 ERs and five 777 Freighters, as well as 24 787-10s – both direct purchased and leased.

The 787-10 will be the third and longest member of the super-efficient 787 family. With its greater passenger and cargo capacity, robust range and passenger-pleasing features, the 787-10 will complement EVA’s Boeing widebody fleet while setting a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics. The 787-10 will be 25 percent better in fuel and emissions than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.

KLM modifies its Boeing 787 order

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Amsterdam) has changed its order for six Boeing 787-9s to the larger 787-10.

According to the carrier, this is not an additional order. The aircraft are expected as of 2020.

Vietnam Airlines converts eight Boeing 787-9 orders to the larger 787-10

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) today (June 15) announced new long term lease contracts with Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) that converted the formerly contracted eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft to eight new Boeing 787-10s.

These aircraft are from ALC’s order book with Boeing and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019 and continue through 2021. The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner will be the largest aircraft in Vietnam Airlines’ fleet.

ANA finalizes its order for three Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners

ANA-All Nippon Airways (Tokyo) and Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) have finalized an order for three 787-10 Dreamliners, valued at approximately $900 million at list prices. With this order, originally announced as a commitment in January 2015, ANA becomes Boeing’s newest 787-10 customer and first airline in Asia to operate the entire family of 787 Dreamliners.

ANA, the launch customer of the 787, currently operates the world’s largest 787 fleet with 34 Dreamliners. The airline will further expand their future fleet with an additional 49 787s on order, leveraging the added efficiency and full flexibility of the complete 787 family.

The 787-10 is the third and longest member of the super-efficient 787 family. With its greater passenger and cargo capacity, high degree of commonality and passenger-pleasing features, the 787-10 will complement the family while setting a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics.

The 787-10 will be 25 to 30 percent more efficient than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.
