Thomson Airways takes delivery of the first two Boeing 787-8s, will be introduced on July 8 to Sanford and Cancun

Thomson Airways (London-Luton and Manchester) andย Boeingย announced the delivery of the airline’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airplane, the first of eight 787s Thomson Airways has on order, is the first to be delivered to a UK airline. 787-8 G-TUIA was handed over on May 30 followed by G-TUIB yesterday (May 31).

Thousands gathered to watch Thomson’s 787 Dreamliner arrive at Manchester Airport, completing its delivery flight from Paine Field in Everett, Wash. Senior Thomson and Boeing executives, including Thomson Managing Director Chris Browne and Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President of Marketing Randy Tinseth, were onboard the delivery flight.

“After much anticipation, we are very excited to welcome the 787 Dreamliner to our fleet and as the first airline in the UK, hope our customers will enjoy the unique experience of this revolutionary aircraft,” said Browne. “The extended flying range of the Dreamliner also unlocks a host of new and exciting holiday options for our customers, increasing the range of long-haul destinations available with Thomson Airways from four UK airports. Customers will be amazed at the unique look, feel and service โ€“ all of which will ensure the unique Thomson holiday experience starts as soon as they step on board this fabulous new aircraft.”

The aircraft was welcomed on arrival at Manchester by Todd Nelp, vice president of European sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Ken O’Toole, Chief Commercial Officer for MAG, owner of Manchester Airport.

On July 8, Thomson’s first long-haul Dreamliner flights will operate from Manchester to Florida (Sanford) and Glasgow to Cancun. Thomson will also operate services from London Gatwick and East Midlands airports. Later this year, the airline will introduce direct flights to Phuket, Thailand from the UK.

The Thomson 787 Dreamliner will carry 291 passengers and is configured with 47 seats in the airline’s Premium Club cabin and 244 seats in the Economy Club cabin.

Thomson Airways is part of the TUI Travel PLC and is the UK’s third largest airline operating 58 aircraft.

China Southern Airlines to introduce the Boeing 787 on June 6

China Southern Airlines (Guangzhou) is planning to introduce the new Boeing 787-8 to scheduled service on June 6. The new type will be introduced on the Guangzhou-Beijing route.

On May 31,ย Boeing and China Southern Airlines celebrated the delivery of the carrier’s first 787 Dreamliner. China Southern is the first Chinese airline to take delivery of the game-changing airplane.

This delivery is the first of 10 Dreamliners for China Southern. China Southern will first operate the 787 on domestic flights before introducing the Dreamliner on its long-haul international passenger service. China Southern is the tenth customer worldwide to take delivery of the 787 Dreamliner.

LOT Polish Airlines to resume Boeing 787 operations on June 1

LOT Polish Airlines (Warsaw) has moved up its resumption of Boeing 787 services now to June 1. The flag carrier will resume 787 flights on this date between Warsaw and New York (JFK). The previous date of resumption was June 5.

LOT is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Warsaw-New York route.

ANA resumes non-scheduled Boeing 787 flights today

ANA (All Nippon Airways) (Tokyo) today resumed Boeing 787-8 passenger flights on the Sapporo-Tokyo (Haneda) route. The airline is gradually phasing in the previously grounded airliner type with five “non-scheduled” domestic routes. The airline issued this statement:

ANA, Japanโ€™s largest airline, will operate five non-scheduled, domestic flights on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner between May 26 and May 31. This is in advance of the resumption of scheduled 787 services from June 1, 2013. These non-scheduled services are being operated in anticipation of high passenger demand.

ANA has implemented modifications to all 17 of its 787 aircraft and a total of 170 proving flights and cockpit crew training have been safely completed.

Osamu Shinobe, President and CEO of ANA, said โ€œThe safety of passengers is our number one priority. Modifications for all 787 have been implemented and ANA has undertaken its own additional testing. The 787 remains a game-changing aircraft, important from an environmental, efficiency and passenger comfort perspective.โ€

United Airlines puts its the Boeing 787 back into revenue service

United Airlines (Chicago) as planned welcomed back its Boeing 787 today with the re-launch of commercial service from the airline’s hub in Houston (Bush Intercontinental). United’s flight UA 1 departure from Houston Intercontinental at 11 a.m. to Chicago O’Hare marked the return of regular service using the world’s most advanced and efficient aircraft on domestic and international routes.

United will operate additional Dreamliner flights on routes from Houston to other domestic hubs this week, and the airline will launch international 787 service on the much-anticipated Denver-Tokyo route on June 10. This summer United also plans to inaugurate 787 service on existing routes including Houston-London, Los Angeles-Tokyo, Los Angeles-Shanghai and Houston-Lagos.

The airline expects to take delivery of two more Dreamliners from Boeing in the second half of 2013.

The European Commission approves the state aid to LOT Polish Airlines

LOT Polish Airlines (Warsaw) has received welcome news from the European Commission of the European Union. The EC was looking into the state aid the airline received last year. The commission stated the aid did fall into the guidelines for state aid and approved the loan from the government of Poland.

Air India to restore Boeing 787 service on May 22

Air India (Mumbai) will restore Boeing 787 service on May 22 from Delta to Kolkata per Airline Route. Two days later, the carrier will restore 787 service from Delhi to both Bangalore and Chennai. Air India is operating the 787 initially on domestic routes.

LAN Airlines to resume Boeing 787 passenger flights on June 1

LAN Airlines (Chile) (Santiago) is planning to resume Boeing 787 passenger operations on June 1. The first route to be restored is the Santiago-Lima-Los Angeles route per Airline Route.

United Airlines to resume Boeing 787 service on May 20 between Houston and Chicago

United Airlines (Chicago) is now planning to resume Boeing 787-8 scheduled passenger operations on May 20 between Houston (Bush Intercontinental) and Chicago (O’Hare) as flight UA 1. Houston-Denver flight start on the following day. United is first re-introducing the grounded type on its relatively short domestic flights as the first phase of the resumption before it restores longer international routes.

Boeing has already converted two of United’s six Dreamliners to the new FAA standards and will soon convert the remainder of United’s fleet. The airline has scheduled flights to begin on May 20 on routes from Houston to other domestic hubs. United will begin international 787 flying on the Denver-Tokyo route on June 10.

ANA to resume Boeing 787 operations also on June 1

ANA (All Nippon Airways) (Tokyo) like Japan Airlines, is also planning to restore Boeing 787 service on June 1. The airline is currently conducting test flights on the battery fix.

On the financial side, ANA Holdings, Inc. reported its yearly net profit rose over 53 percent to over $435 million through March 31 despite the grounding on the Boeing 787s.
