Mesa Air Group to expand its partnership with US Airways

Mesa Air Group, Inc. (Mesa Airlines) (Phoenix has announced it has reached an agreement with US Airways, Inc. (Phoenix) to extend the term covering its original 38 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft currently in operation and for the addition of four CRJ900 aircraft to its current fleet of 47 aircraft under the US Airways Express contract. The term of the agreement covering the 38 aircraft was extended until 2021 and the term for the 4 additional aircraft is 8 years from their induction date. No further details of the agreement were released.

Mesa currently operates 69 aircraft with approximately 396 daily system departures to 77 cities, and recently announced an additional 30 Embraer 175 aircraft will be flying for United Airlines. Mesa operates as US Airways Express and United Express under contractual agreements with US Airways and United Airlines, respectively, and independently as go!.

Eventually the company will become a new American Eagle branded operator with the final merger of the two AOCs into one for American Airlines.

US Airways and Mesa Air Group extend their contract

US Airways (Phoenix) and the Mesa Air Group, Inc. (Phoenix) have announced they have reached an agreement in principle to extend their code share agreement covering 38 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft for an additional term of 39 months to September 2015. Under the term sheet, Mesa Airlines, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mesa Air Group, will continue to provide regional jet service under the US Airways Express banner. The agreement is subject to approval by Mesaโ€™s and US Airways Boards of Directors and the Bankruptcy Court overseeing Mesaโ€™s restructuring.

Under the agreement Mesa will continue to provide US Airways Express service out of US Airwaysโ€™ hubs in Phoenix, AZ and Charlotte, NC utilizing aircraft in Mesaโ€™s current fleet.

Libyan Airlines orders three more Bombardier CRJ900s

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli) through the Libyan African Aviation Holding Company has signed a firm order for three Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and has also taken options on an additional three CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. The aircraft will be operated by Libyan Airlines, a subsidiary company of Libyan African Aviation Holding Company.

Libyan Airlines currently operates three CRJ900 and two CRJ900 NextGen aircraft in a two-class configuration with seven business class and 68 economy seats. The airlineโ€™s previous orders for CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft were announced on June 14, 2007 and January 3, 2008 respectively.

Lufthansa orders eight additional Bombardier CRJ900s

Lufthansa (Frankfurt) has placed a firm order for eight additional Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen regional jets. The transaction involved the exercise of eight previously announced purchase rights.

Altogether, Deutsche Lufthansa and its regional partners have previously ordered a total of 109 Bombardier CRJ Series regional jets, including 62 CRJ100 and CRJ200 aircraft, 20 CRJ700 aircraft and 27 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.

PLUNA performs test flight in Chile

PLUNA Lineas Aereas Uruguayas (Montevideo) on October 23, 2009 performed its first test flight inside Chilean territory. The overnight flight linked Santiago de Chile (SCL) with Punta Arenas (PUQ) as flight PU 441 carrying freight (newspapers, magazines and documents) in a seat container configuration. The company used Bombardier CRJ900 (CL-600-2D24) CX-CRB. The cargo was flown on behalf of SKY Cargo (a subsidiary of SKY Airline) thanks to an agreement with that Chilean company. PLUNA is planning to operate passenger flights in Chile starting in December and will use the same aircraft on the route Punta Arenas -Santiago.

Myair (Italy) (myair.com) (My Way Airlines) (Vicenza) on July 21 received notice from the ENAC that its AOC would be suspended by tomorrow (July 24) at midnight. Myair has stopped selling tickets. The company had been given a temporary AOC in June and Italy’s ENAC was hoping the airline would be able to work through its cash problems. However some recent flight cancellation leaving hundreds of passengers stranded left ENAC with no other solution. Myair started its low-fare operations on December 17, 2004.

Comair may lay off up to 100 pilots
