KLM is coming to Edmonton

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Amsterdam) will launch Amsterdam-Edmonton Airbus A330-200 flights starting on May 3, 2015. The new route will be operated four days a week.

On November 3 KLM confirmed the new destination however delaying the start to June 22, 2015 with this announcement:

The flights will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, including Fridays effective June 22, 2015.

In catering to customer requirements, KLM will offer three different passenger classes on board the A330-200: 30 seats in World Business Class, 178 seats in Economy Class and 35 seats in the Economy Comfort zone (offering 10 cm more legroom, back supports capable of reclining twice as far, and priority deboarding). The flight departs from Amsterdam at 2:35 PM (1435) and arrives at 3:35 PM (1535) local time in Edmonton. The return flight departs at 6:10 PM (1810) from Edmonton and the arrival in Amsterdam is at 10:45 AM (1045), the next day.

The Air France-KLM Group operates flights to five destinations in Canada, with departures from Amsterdam Schiphol and Paris Charles de Gaulle: Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal (operated by KLM and Air France), Calgary and Edmonton (operated by KLM).

Air France-KLM has a codeshare agreement with Canadian carrier WestJet. This offers passengers access to 30 extra routes in Canada connecting to the worldwide Air France-KLM network. About Edmonton Edmonton is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta and is also the fifth largest city in Canada after Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. It is the largest economic center of northern Alberta, and an important city for the oil and gas industry.

United to drop three Canadian routes for the winter months

United Airlines (Chicago) is ending summer service to three Canadian routes this fall: Chicago (O’Hare)-Saskatoon (September 30), Chicago (O’Hare)-Regina (October 25) and Newark-Edmonton (October 26) per Airline Route. Saskatoon and Regina will continue to see United service from the Denver hub.

United Airlines to drop the Newark-Edmonton route on October 25

United Airlines (Chicago) will end the Newark-Edmonton route on October 25. The Airbus A320 nonstop route was inaugurated on May 13, 2013.

The route was not meeting the airline’s expectations.

American to open four new routes from Los Angeles

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) will continue expanding its domestic and international service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), further strengthening one of its key hubs and providing more access for customers across its growing global network. New service between Los Angeles and the following markets will be available for booking beginning this Saturday, June 21.

Edmonton, Alberta operated daily, beginning October 2
San Antonio operated twice daily, beginning October 2
Tampa, Florida operated daily, beginning November 6
Vancouver, British Columbia operated twice daily, beginning October 2

Service between LAX and Edmonton, San Antonio and Vancouver will be operated as US Airways Express with a two-class Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft. The new route between LAX and Tampa will be operated by American Airlines with a two-class Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

With these new markets, American will serve 53 domestic and international destinations from its LAX hub. Customers have access to even more global destinations through partners British Airways, Iberia, Qantas, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific and LAN, all of which offer convenient connections from Los Angeles.

Air Canada and Gogo to roll out Wi-Fi in May in the North American fleet

Air Canada (Montreal) and Gogo announced today that it plans on rolling out Wi-Fi on Air Canada’s entire North American fleet in May. The agreement also provides for future type-testing of Gogo satellite solutions for Wi-Fi on international flights. The international trials will take place in 2015.

Air Canada presently has two Wi-Fi-equipped Airbus A319 aircraft that are now operating in Canada and the U.S. and, subject to a final agreement with Gogo, the carrier plans to begin outfitting its remaining Airbus A319, A320 and A321 narrow-body and Embraer 190 fleet types, as well as its Air Canada Express CRJ705 and Embraer 175 aircraft, with Gogo’s Air-To-Ground (ATG) and next generation ATG-4 technologies. The installations are to begin in May, with the goal of equipping 29 aircraft in 2014 and a targeted completion date of December 2015 for the designated 130 narrow-body aircraft. The 2Ku and Global Xpress satellite trials are expected to take place on select international aircraft in 2015.

American to add nonstop Dallas/Fort Worth-Edmonton service on April 2

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) will add a new nonstop route connecting its Dallas/Fort Worth hub with Edmonton, Alberta starting on April 2, 2014.ย The new daily service will be operated with an Airbus A319 featuring eight First Class seats, 24 Main Cabin Extra seats with additional legroom and 96 Main Cabin seats.

The new service will operate daily, with the three-hour, 55-minute southbound flight leaving Edmonton atย 8:10 a.m. (0810) and arriving in Dallas/Fort Worth atย 1:05 p.m. (1305). ย The four-hour, five-minute northbound flight will leave Dallas/Fort Worth atย 4:20 p.m. (1620) and arrive in Edmonton atย 7:25 p.m. (1925).
