United Airlines inaugurates Denver to Tokyo Narita service with its Boeing 787s

United Airlines (Chicago) yesterday (June 10) re-launched international service on the 787 Dreamliner with the inaugural flight from the airline’s hub in Denver to Tokyo-Narita International Airport. The daily flight marks the Mile High City’s first nonstop connection to Asia, a highly anticipated milestone in Denver’s history.

Flight UA 139 departs Denver daily at 12:35 p.m. (1235) and arrives at Tokyo-Narita International Airport at 3:30 p.m. (1530) the next day. For the return, Flight UA 138 departs Tokyo at 5:25 p.m. (1725) and arrives in Denver at 1:15 p.m. (1315) the same day. (All times are local.)

Together with its joint venture partner ANA, United will offer seamless connections at Narita to or from more than 18 destinations in Asia, including important business and trade destinations like Seoul, South Korea, Bangkok and Singapore.

United is the 787 North American launch customer and now has six Dreamliners in its fleet. Theairline has 55 Dreamliners on order and expects to take delivery of two more from Boeing in the second half of 2013.

In addition to the Tokyo route, United in the past year added nine new Denver routes, including flights to emerging energy markets like Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, and Dickinson, N.D. Other new destinations United serves from Denver include Santa Fe, N.M., and St. George, Utah. United also recently increased the frequency of service from Denver to Mexico.

United offers more flights to more destinations worldwide from Denver than any other airline, with more than 400 peak day departures to 126 destinations throughout the year. United flies to over 60 more cities than the next largest carrier at Denver International Airport.

United is one of Denver’s largest private employers, with nearly 5,000 employees who proudly call Denver home. United celebrated the airline’s 75^th anniversary of service to Denver last year with the announcement it would begin service to Tokyo.

United Airlines launches its first international Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner service today

United Airlines (Chicago) today (January 3) will introduce daily nonstop Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner service between its hub at Los Angeles International Airport and its hub at Tokyo Narita International Airport. The service – previously operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft – is the first regularly-scheduled international route operated using United’s new 787 Dreamliner.

The flight, UA 32, will depart Los Angeles at 11:15 a.m. (1115), arriving in Tokyo Narita at 4:10 p.m. (1610) the next day. The return flight, UA 33, will depart Tokyo Narita daily at 5:55 p.m. (1755), arriving in Los Angeles at 10:35 a.m. (1035) the same day.

United’s 787 Dreamliner is configured with 36 seats in United BusinessFirst, 70 seats in United Economy Plus and 113 seats in United Economy. The aircraft will revolutionize the flying experience for United customers and crews while delivering unprecedented operating efficiency, comfort and lower emissions. Customers on the flights will experience greater comfort with improved lighting, bigger windows, larger overhead bins, lower cabin altitude and enhanced ventilation systems, among other passenger-friendly features.

Yesterday (January 2) LAN Airlines (Santiago) introduced the Boeing 787-8 on the Santiago-Los Angeles route.

Nippon Cargo Airlines is coming to Dallas/Fort Worth

Nippon Cargo Airlines-NCA (Tokyo) has announced it will launch new freighter flights connecting Tokyo’s Narita International Airport and DFW International Airport, starting November 5. Nippon Cargo’s twice weekly flights will be the first direct freighter connections for the Dallas/Fort Worth area into Japan, and will bolster DFW cargo lift capacity to Asia while also providing a new connection to a strategically important destination.

Nippon Cargo Airlines will operate the route from Tokyo Narita to Chicago O’Hare, then to DFW Airport, Anchorage, Alaska, and then back to Narita. Nippon Cargo Airlines will fly 747-400 aircraft on the route, and the carrier ultimately plans to phase-in 747-8’s, the most fuel-efficient planes in the industry.

AirAsia Japan prepares to launch scheduled operations on August 1

AirAsia Japan (AirAsia Japan Company Limited) (Tokyo-Narita) is getting ready to take delivery of its second Airbus A320 (JA02AJ). The new airline took delivery of its first Airbus A320 (JA01AJ) June 8, 2012 at Toulouse, France. As we previously reported, the new carrier will start scheduled operations on August 1 from Narita International Airport to Sapporo and Fukuoka, and from August 3 to Okinawa with an initial fleet of these two A320s.

AirAsia Japan will start international operations to Seoul (Incheon) and Pusan in South Korea in October, with the fleet growing to four A320s by the end of 2012.

AirAsia Japan’s A320s are configured in a high comfort, all economy layout with 180 seats. Each aircraft is powered by CFM56 engines.

AirAsia Japan, established in August 2011, is a joint venture between Japan’s largest airline ANA Group (67%) and low-cost airline AirAsia (33%). Operating under the AirAsia brand, AirAsia Japan will serve both domestic and international destinations.

Oddly this aircraft wears a different color scheme from the first A320 (JA01AJ). It is unclear if this represents a new livery for the AirAsia family of airlines.

Virgin America signs an interline agreement with Japan Airlines

Virgin America (San Francisco) has announced a new interline agreement with Japan Airlines (JAL) (Tokyo) offering travel on the networks of both carriers across their respective North American and Asian routes. Virgin America has grown to 18 destinations, a fleet of 52 new aircraft and more than 2,600 teammates since its launch in August 2007. In addition to the new JAL agreement, Virgin America has interline agreements with Virgin Australia Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Air New Zealand, Emirates Airline, Korean Air, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, South African Airways, El Al Israel Airlines, QANTAS Airways, China Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Air Pacific.

JAL offers daily service from Virgin America’s home base San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and daily nonstop service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) – a focus city for Virgin America – to JAL’s hub at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT), where travelers may connect onward to most major cities in Asia including Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei. In addition, JAL serves Narita from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and New York’s JFK. Both airlines will transfer baggage between connecting flights to guests’ final destinations.

(IAD), Seattle/Tacoma, Las Vegas, San Diego, Boston, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Orlando, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Cabos, Cancun, Chicago, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs (seasonally), Philadelphia, Portland (Oregon) and – as of August 14, 2012 – Washington D.C.’s Reagan National (DCA).

AirAsia Japan takes delivery of its first Airbus A320

AirAsia Japan (AirAsia Japan Company Limited) (Tokyo-Narita) took delivery of its first Airbus A320 aircraft yesterday (June 8) at Toulouse, France. The new carrier will start commercial services on August 1 from Narita International Airport to Sapporo and Fukuoka, and from August 3 to Okinawa with an initial fleet of two A320s.
