CityLine Swiss to start Dortmund-Rome flights in November

CityLine Swiss (subsidiary of CityLine Hungary) (Lugano) is a new airline which is planning to commence scheduled passenger operations in November linking Dortmund with Rome. The company will operate a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-83 (MD-83) on the route, three times weekly.

Mat Airways commences operations under the Kon Tiki Sky brand

Mat Airways (2nd) (Skopje) has launched charter operations for its part owner Kon Tiki Travel under the Kon Tiki Sky brand from Belgrade. Flights are operated under the Aviogenex AOC.

Belleair creates a new Italian susbidiary

Belleair (Tirana) has created a new Italian subsidiary called Belleair Europe (stylized as belleair europe) (Bergamo) initially with a single ATR 72-500 (I-LZAN, msn 908). The new airline will operate in the domestic Italian market.

FlyLAL Charters changes its name to Small Planet Airlines

FlyLAL Charters (Vilnius) in July 2010 decided to change its name and brand. The company will be now known as leisure carrier Small Planet Airlines.

This summer Small Planet Airlines operates a total of seven Boeing aircraft and performs flights from Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Italy. The airline possesses the Air Operator Certificates (AOC) granted by three European countries (Lithuania, Estonia and Poland) and has started certification process for acquiring the fourth in Italy. Small Planet Airlines performs charter flights inside the EU as well as to other countries.

The current Boeing 737 Classic aircraft will be gradually replaced with Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, more modern and capable of flying longer distances. This will enable Small Planet Airlines in cooperation with tour operators to offer a broader range of destinations. The first two Boeing 737NG aircraft will arrive in summer 2011.

Spanish upstart AlbaStar acquires its first aircraft

AlbaStar (Palma de Mallorca) is a new Spanish airline which has taken delivery of its first aircraft, a Boeing 737-400, formerly operated by Hola Airlines with the same registration (EC-LAV).

AlbaStar has been set up by former LTE and MyAir staff led by Michael Harrington, the former CEO of LTE. The new airline plans to base this first aircraft at Milan (Malpensa).

Star Airways will not use this Airbus A320, currently wet-leasing aircraft

Star Airways (StarAirways.al) (Tirana) will not operate this Airbus A320-231 registered ZA-RED (msn 415) according to this report in Flightglobal. Two A320s were due to be leased from ILFC but the start-up Albanian carrier has lost its AOC. Instead the carrier is wet-leasing aircraft from ItAli Airlines. The Tirana-Bologna route started this month.

Whitejets starts a new route to Cancun from Brazil

Whitejets Transportes Aรฉreosย (Rio de Janeiro-Galeao) is a new Brazilianย charter airline. The new airline is owned by Josรฉ Manuel Antunes who also owns Omni Aviation of Portugal, which in turn owns White Airways (Lisbon). Whitejets launched operations on June 12, 2010 between Rio de Janeiro (Galeao) and Sao Paulo (Viracopos) and Veradero (Cuba) with an Airbus A310-300 wet leased from White Airways.

A new route to Cancun was also inaugurated on July 12 from Brazil.

My WINGS is a new German airline planning to start operations on August 11

My WINGS (www.flymywings.com)ย (Friedrichshafen)ย is a new German airline. The new airline isย planning to start operations from Friedrichshafen on August 11 to various popular European destinations including London (Gatwick), Rome, Pristina, Thessaloniki and Alicante. The flights will be operated with a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-87 (MD-87) under the Flyant Cargo (FYA) airline code so the aircraft used could be the ex-Pronair EC-KVR.

Air Midwest (Nigeria) receives AOC, will start operations this month

Air Midwest (Lagos) received its AOC on June 21. The new airline is planning to commence scheduled operations this month in Nigeria.
