Alaska Airlines to add new service to Hawaii

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) will inaugurate service between San Jose, CA, and Lihue, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on March 27, 2011, and between Oakland, CA, and Lihue beginning March 28, 2011.
The new flights will complement the airline’s existing Hawaii service from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui, and Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, and new flights between Sacramento, CA, and Kahului, which started in March of this year.
The new Hawaii flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin.

Falcon Air Express (Miami) is operating its ex-Spirit Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-83 (MD-83) N836NK (msn 53045) for Gold Transportation Services (Atlantic City), a tour operator, now with titles.

TAROM joins the SkyTeam alliance today

TAROM-Romanian Air Transport (Bucharest) officially joined the SkyTeam global airline alliance at a ceremony held in Bucharest today (June 25). TAROM becomes the 13th carrier to join SkyTeam, which marked its 10th anniversary on June 22, 2010.

British Airways to hire over 1,000 lower-paid cabin crews
British Airways (London) is planning to hire over 1,000 replacement cabin crew members (at lower rates) to buffet itself from the continued strikes by the Unite Union according to this report by Reuters.

Jazz Air reaches a tentative agreement with its pilots

Jazz Air (Air Canada Jazz) (Halifax) and the Air Line Pilots Association Intโl (ALPA), representing more than 1,500 pilots employed by Jazz Air LP (formerly Air Canada Jazz), confirmed that they have signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MOS) for a tentative agreement with Jazz Air management representatives after 13 months of negotiations. The pilotsโ collective agreement expired on June 30, 2009.
The MOS forms the basis of a tentative agreement between Jazz pilots and management and establishes the foundation for a fair and equitable work contract. If approved by the Jazz Master Executive Council (MEC), a tentative agreement will be taken to the pilot membership for a final ratification vote in early July. Details of the settlement will not be released until ratification by Jazz pilots is complete.

Boeing to inspect its Dreamliners and the horizontal stabilizers

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle, Wichita and Charleston) will inspect its test fleet of 787 Dreamliners for any faulty workmanship issues involving the horizontal stabilizers.

Sun Country Airlines completes first Boeing 737-800 charter flight to Hawaii

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) on Tuesday (June 22) conducted its first trans-Pacific flight in charter service from Phoenix to Honolulu. Touching down in Hawaii the Boeing 737-800 crew were greeted with a traditional gift of Hawaiian Leis welcoming Sun Country to the 50th state.
Sun Country operated the flights in scheduled and charter service utilizing procedures and equipment specifically designated for Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance (ETOPs).
As previously reported, Sun Country flew its first trans-Atlantic trip in scheduled service from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Londonโs Stansted airport on June 11. The one-stop seasonal service will operate weekly through August 15 between the Twin Cities and London with Boeing 737-800s.

Bradley “International” Airport
Virgin Atlantic Airways (London) flight from London (Heathrow) to Newark yesterday had to divert to Hartford/Springfield (Bradley International Airport) due to bad weather at the destination. Despite the Bradley airport name, the passengers were forced to wait four hours for the clearance officers to be called in and to arrive so the passengers could deplane the aircraft. The airline apologized to the passengers but there needs to be a better way to handle situations like this. What do you think?
