Delta Air Lines Inc. (Atlanta) and AeroMexico (Mexico City) plan to begin construction of a jointly operated aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center at the Intercontinental Airport in Queretaro, next to that State’s Aerospace Park.
As part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)ย and continuation of their commercial alliance, the carriers will invest equal amounts in a project to move work currently being done at the Guadalajara International Airport and expand MRO capabilities for their own aircraft and other carriers. The new facility’s heavy maintenance capacity will allow for up to seven aircraft to be serviced simultaneously.
According to both carriers, “this project represents one of the most important investments in aviation infrastructure in Mexico in history and proves that the joint efforts between the private and public sectors benefit the country’s economic growth.”
Delta Air Lines acquired a 4.17 percent stake in Grupo Aeromexico in June of this year.
It is unclear if any heavy maintenance will be moved from Atlanta to Guadalajara.

AeroMexico (Mexico CIty) will resume Mexico City-Dallas/Fort Worth service on November 5 according to Airline Route. The route will be operated with AeroMexico Connect Embraer ERJ 190s.
AeroMexico also added its first Embraer ERJ 170 for AeroMexico Connect. Eventually the newerย ERJ 170s will replace the older ERJ 145 regional jets operated by AeroMexico Connect. Former Republic Airlines ERJ 170-100SU N806MD (msn 17000019) was delivered on June 15, 2012 as XA-ACP. It was followed by XA-ACQ (msn 17000042, ex N821MD) on July 9, 2012. The new type entered revenue service onย July 7, 2012 from Mexico City toย Acapulco, Campeche, Oaxaca and Veracruz.

Grupo Aeromexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AeroMexico) (Mexico City) announced today it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the Boeing to purchase up to 100 next generation aircraft worth close toย $11 billion U.S. dollars. This intention to buy represents the largest investment by a national company in the aviation industry in Mexico.
The order includes 90 narrow body 737-8 MAX jet airliners with CFM International LEAP-1B engines, and ten wide body Boeing 787-9ย Dreamliners, with General Electric GEnx-1Bโข engines. This major order will make Grupo Aeromexico the first Latin American carrier to operate this type of aircraft.
The addition of these new aircraft is part of the carrier’s ongoing fleet renewal program as it intends to maintain one of the youngest fleets in the industry worldwide. The modern comforts featured by this next generation of jet airliners will offer customers a more pleasant travel experience.
It is important to note that this order for 100 aircraft is inย addition to the package of 20 new and wholly owned acquisitions the carrier announced in 2011 including ten Embraer 190 airplanes and ten Boeing 737-8 NG jet airliners, plus theย nine Boeing 787-9ย Dreamliners whose first delivery is scheduled for Summer 2013. Delivery of the Boeing 737-8 MAX will begin in 2018.

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has changed the promotional theme on this Boeing 737-752 XA-AGM (msn 35786) from the Aeromexico Banamex credit card to the pictured clubpremier.com sub-titles. AeroMexico is promoting its new Club Premier program. The Club Premier is a loyalty program designed to reward frequent flyers. Titanium is a highest level which is also recognized as a SkyTeam Elite Plus member.
For the Titanium level, passengers must travel at least 100,000 miles with Aeromexico Premier for a year. Benefits include preferential seating, ticket office services, Premier rooms, call centers, documentation counters and a priority waiting list.

Grupoย Aeromexico (Mexico City) yesterday (June 4) received fromย Delta Air Linesย Inc. (Atlanta) $65,000,000 as an investment in AeroMexico‘s (Mexico City) capital stock.
The Mexican Federal Competition Commission (CFC) authorized the operation that allowsย Delta Air Linesย to underwrite and purchase 30,182,855 shares of stock equivalent to 4.17% of Grupo Aeromexico’s capital stock, paying the $31 Mexican pesos per share Grupo Aeromexico offered in its IPO. This stock purchase also gives Delta a seat on the Grupo Aeromexicoย Board of Directors.
This is the first time a global carrier has purchased an equity share in a national Mexican airline. Both companies will share best practices in sales, operations, equipment maintenance and staff training, enabling them to offer customers the same travel experience on any of their flights.
This financial transaction is part of the global contract the carriers signed last year to create a unique alliance in Latin America. This is a long-term agreement that will benefit passengers through the expansion of our codeshare flights.
The carriers collectively offer 93 codeshare destinations that represent 733 daily flights in eight countries. They have also been working on improving and increasing flight schedules to respond to customers’ needs in destinations such as New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and Miami, new daily service to Washington, DC from Mexico City and new flights to Atlanta coming soon. Customers at both airlines enjoy streamlined purchasing processes that allow them to book their travel through to their final destinations.
Consolidation of this alliance also includes the companies’ joint investment in their Maintenance, Repair and Operation (MRO) business at new facilities the carriers plan to open in Mexico in 2013. Grupo Aeromexico andย Delta Air Linesย will invest equal amounts to expand their aircraft repair business, which will also create new jobs.

AeroMexico (Grupo Aeromexico) (Mexico City) reported itsย second best first quarter despite a 24% increase in fuel prices. The company reported a net profit of $10.4 million.
The company issued the following statement:
“Grupo Aeromexico, S.A.B. de C.V., the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, today reported consolidated unaudited results for the first quarter 2012.
Grupo Aeromexico reported its second best first quarter despite a 24% increase in fuel prices.
Revenues reached a record high of MXP $9,228 million with 17% year over year growth, driven by strong passenger traffic and an increasing load factor.
EBITDAR reached MXP $1,484 million pesos with a margin of 16.1%, the second highest level in the Company’s history despite a significant fuel price increase.
Quarterly operating profit was MXP $452 million with an operating margin of 4.9%; the second best result for a March quarter in the Company’s history. Net income for the first quarter was MXP $135 million, with a net margin of 1.5%.
As part of its expansion plan, the Company increased its fleet by two Embraer 190 aircraft with benefit of its BNDES credit line and also returned one Embraer 145.
Grupo Aeromexico’s cash position was MXP $3,609 million at the end of March 2012; MXP $2,285 million greater than that of March 31, 2011. During the quarter, the Company made payments of approximately USD $50 million, related to its airplane acquisition program, the expansion of the overnight platform in Mexico City, and made payments in excess of USD $10 million for the amortization of financial debt not related to aircraft acquisition. Net financial debt, which deducts the unrestricted cash position from financial debt, ended in a negative balance of MXP $42 million. Stockholders’ equity was MXP $5,412 million as of March 31, 2012.
The Company adopted the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on January 1, 2012 and made accounting changes related to its cargo business unit.

AeroMexico (Mexico City) will lease two additional new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners bringing the total leased from ILFC to five 787s.
The addition of these two leased Boeing 787 aircraft to current on-order 787 fleet of five aircraft, two which were ordered directly from Boeing and three previously leased from ILFC, brings the total 787 fleet on-order to seven aircraft.
The new 787sย will be deployed on AM’s long-haul routes, ultimately replacing 767 aircraft.
