AeroMexico to add three Embraer 175s starting in June

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced the addition of three Embraer 175 planes to its fleet, making it the first national airline in Mexico to operate this aircraft type.

As part of the plan for the renovation of its fleet, the aircraft, with 86 seats in one single class, will gradually replace the smaller Embraer ERJ 145 planes with 50 seats operated by Aerolitoral.

The Embraer 175 shares its design and cabin structure with the larger Embraer 190. This attribute allows customers to have the same travel experience on either one of these aircraft. Other features include more space for storing carry-on luggage in compartments that are overhead or underneath seats, more comfortable seats, a 2×2 seating configuration with space in the aisle, to name a few. Embraer aircraft are recognized as the most comfortable family of aircraft in their category.

Two of the three planes will start operations on June 1 and June 20, offering greater comfort along with cutting edge technology on routes from Mexico City to Acapulco, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Tampico, Zihuatanejo, Minatitlan, San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes.

Aerolitoral, operating as AeroMexico Connect (Monterrey), is expected to operate the aircraft for AeroMexico.

AeroMexico Connect to operate from las Vegas to Puerto Penasco and Hermosillo

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced a new route from Las Vegas, Nevada to Puerto Penasco and Hermosillo that will be available starting on June 20 with two frequencies a week.

This route adds two new AeroMexico destinations that can connect to and from one of its main hubs bringing the total number of cities to 14. From Hermosillo, Aeromexico offers daily frequencies to Culiacan, Mexico City, Chihuahua, Los Mochis, Mazatlan, among others.

Aeromexico will schedule the new flights with 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft operated by AeroMexico Connect (Aerolitoral) (Monterrey) on the following schedule:

Grupo Aeromexico reports a $9.9 million net operating loss in the first quarter

Grupo Aeromexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AeroMexico) (Mexico City) reported its unaudited consolidated results for the first quarter 2013.

Grupo Aeromexico reported record revenues of $9.174 billion pesos in the first quarter 2013; a 0.4% year-on-year increase, despite the fact that the quarter was one day shorter than that of the previous year.[1]
The cost of available seat kilometers (CASK) excluding fuel decreased 3.0% year-on-year in the first quarter 2013 due to the Company’s successful cost containment strategies. When expressed in U.S. dollars, CASK, excluding fuel, decreased 0.4% despite first quarter Mexican peso/ U.S. dollar depreciation.
First quarter EBITDAR reached $1.259 billion pesos, with a 13.7% margin. Operating income was $189 million pesos, with a 2.1% margin.
Grupo Aeromexico reported a net operating loss of $122 million pesos ($9.9 million US) in the first quarter 2013. Market value adjustments for the Company’s fuel hedging position resulted in a $59 million peso negative impact on net income.
Grupo Aeromexico generated $215 million in operating cash before tax during the first quarter 2013. Capital expenditures reached $519 million pesos, including items such as advance payments for aircraft purchases, security deposits and repayment of debt not associated with aircraft purchases. Grupo Aeromexico’s cash balance as at March 31, 2013 was $2.243 billion pesos.
During the first quarter, Grupo Aeromexico retired two aircraft from its fleet: one Embraer ERJ-145 and one Boeing 737-700, both under lease agreements. The Company also added a Boeing 737-800 jet airliner to its fleet under an operating lease scheme.

AeroMexico:

AeroMexico introduces AM Plus Class on its 40 Boeing 737s

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced that its AM Plus Class will provide new benefits and enhanced seat comfort in its more than 40 Boeing 737 aircraft.

This new service features an extra 4″ (10 cm) of legroom in the first three rows in the Economy Class cabin, with an additional seatback tilt and leather headrests. Another advantage for passengers traveling in this new class includes priority boarding and deplaning, Premier airport check-in counters and baggage identification tags.

Some of the domestic destinations featuring this new product include Cancun, Tijuana, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Merida, among others; and Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, Montreal, Lima, Bogota, Caracas and Costa Rica internationally.

In other news, AM is adding new service to Loreto, Mexico. The new route will be served from Mexico City and will stop in Culiacan, then Loreto and continue on to its final destination in Los Angeles, California, enabling Loreto customers to connect to other destinations in the United States.

AeroMexico to start Los Angeles-La Paz, Baja service starting on June 20

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced a new service between Los Angeles and La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, with two weekly frequencies starting on June 20.

AeroMexico:

AeroMexico announces new international flights

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced new increased frequencies and international services.

As of June and August, AeroMexico will offer a second flight on the Mexico City-Bogota, Colombia route in response to strong demand in both Latin American capitals, plus two additional frequencies between Mexico City and Sao Paulo, Brazil for a total of nine weekly flights on the route, along with three new frequencies on the Mexico City-Madrid route for a total of ten flights per week.

The airline also announced new seasonal service from Cancun and Huatulco to Los Angeles,California starting in June, to leverage summer travel in both destinations.

AeroMexico and its partner Apple Vacations will offer three weekly flights on the Cancun-Los Angeles route, along with the Huatulco-Los Angeles service they will offer on Fridays.

Both routes will be served with Boeing 737-800 jet airliners with 160 seats, so passengers in both Mexican destinations can travel to Los Angeles and beyond to other cities in the United States, thanks to the AeroMexico and Alaska Airlines codeshare agreement.

The airline will also start to serve the Puerto Penasco-Las Vegas route in June.

During 2013, AeroMexico is also working on consolidating its extensive network of domestic and international routes by continuously strengthening connectivity from different regions in Mexico with the 45 destinations it serves in this country, 19 in the United States, 11 in Latin America, three in Europe, two in Asia and one in Canada.

AeroMexico posts a net profit of $103.6 million for 2012

Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B. De C.V. (AeroMexico) (Mexico City), the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reported consolidated unaudited results for the fourth quarter and full year 2012.

Net income during the fourth quarter 2012 was MXP $612 million ($47.9 million); an increase as compared to the MXP $294 million ($23 million) net income reported for the same period in 2011. Full year net income was MXP $1,323 million ($103.6 million) despite record-high fuel prices and the negative impact of a 5.8% exchange rate depreciation.
Fourth quarter operating profit before other non-operating revenues and expenses was MXP $356 million, with a 3.6% margin. 2012 operating profit before other non-operating revenues and expenses was MXP $2,529 million, with a 6.4% margin. Operating margin was 6.5%, excluding the effect of Aeromexico Cargo consolidation.
2012 EBITDAR was MXP $6,811 million, the second highest annual EBITDAR in the Company’s history, despite negative impacts related to the fuel price increase and the aforementioned exchange rate depreciation. EBITDAR margin was 17.2%; after adjusting for the cargo consolidation effect, this margin was 17.6%.
Grupo Aeromexico reported record revenues of MXP $39,569 million in 2012; 10.5% growth year-over-year. This growth was driven primarily by increased yields, higher passenger flows and an increase in cargo revenues. Fourth quarter revenues reached MXP $9,897 million; a 1.7% increase year on year.
Cost per available seat kilometer (CASK) excluding fuel and adjusting for the accounting effect of consolidating Aeromexico Cargo (AM Cargo), increased 5.4% in 2012 compared to last year. This is primarily due to the exchange rate depreciation. This indicator, expressed in U.S. dollars, decreased 1.7%. CASK in pesos, excluding fuel and the cargo business consolidation, grew 3.7% in the fourth quarter as compared to the same period last year.
During the year, Grupo Aeromexico executed the most ambitious investment program in the Company’s history, making payments of MXP $4,261 million in fixed assets investments, aircraft purchase prepayments, guarantee deposits and the amortization of debt not related to the purchase of aircraft. The Company’s cash position as of December 31, 2012 was MXP $3,452 million.
Grupo Aeromexico took delivery of eight new Embraer-190 in 2012. Six of these were delivered as part of the aircraft acquisition program through the BNDES credit line and two were delivered through operating leases. The Company also took delivery of three Boeing 737-800 through US Ex-Im Bank financing. Three Embraer 170 aircraft also were added to the fleet through operating leases. Additionally, two Boeing 737-800, one Boeing 767-200 and one Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft were re-delivered.

AeroMexico finalizes its order for six additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners

Boeing (Chicago) and AeroMexico (Mexico City) today announced AM has finalized an order for six 787-9 Dreamliners, with reconfirmation rights for four additional Dreamliners. The order by Mexico’s largest airline, which was first announced as a commitment in July, is valued at more than $1.46 billion at published list prices.

The acquisition of these Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, is part of the 100 aircraft announced earlier this year.

Grupo Aeromexico will have a total of 19 Boeing 787 Dreamliners in its fleet, whose first delivery is expected to be in the summer of 2013.

Made primarily from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes and will allow Aeromexico to replace older aircraft on its European, Asian and South American routes. As a result of innovative technologies, the airplane offers unparalleled operating economics, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. More than 800 787s are on order by 58 customers, a testament to the airplane’s unique capabilities.

AeroMexico finalizes its order for 60 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and MAX 9s

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has finalized an order for 60 737 MAX 8s and 9s, with reconfirmation rights for 30 additional 737 MAXs. The firm order by Mexico’s largest airline, which was first announced as a commitment in July, is valued at more than $6 billion at published list prices.

This firm order brings the total 737 MAX firm orders to 938 airplanes.

The 737 MAX is a new-engine variant of the world’s best-selling airplane and builds on the strengths of today’s Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 13 percent fuel-use improvement over today’s most fuel-efficient single-aisle airplanes and an 8 percent operating cost per seat advantage over tomorrow’s competition.

The 737 MAX also features the new Boeing Sky Interior. The sleek interior boasts modern lines, a spacious cabin with more headroom and LED lighting that offers vibrant color options.
