EVA Air is introducing more characters and creating a new edition of its popular Sanrio-family aircraft. Best known for Hello Kitty jets, EVA launched a โTravel Funโ Jet on Saturday, March 4, 2017, starring the naughtily charming Sanrio character, Bad Badtz-Maru. The airline is flying the latest in its collection of specially painted planes on Taipei-Fukuoka and Taipei-Seoul routes. The aircraft is the worldโs first with Bad Badtz-Maru livery to be scheduled for international service.

EVAโs Badtz-Maru Travel Fun Jet is an Airbus A330-300 configured for 309 passengers, 30 in Business Class and 279 in Economy. To start, flight BR106 departs Taipeiโs Taoyuan International Airport at 8:10 (8:10 am) and arrives at Fukuoka Airport at 11:15 (11:15 am). Return flight BR105 leaves Fukuoka at 12:15 (12:15 pm) and gets back to Taipei at 13:50 (1:50 pm). EVA then operates the aircraft as BR160, taking off from Taoyuan International Airport at 15:15 (3:15 pm) and arriving at Seoulโs Incheon Airport at 18:45 (6:45 pm). Return flight BR159 leaves Incheon at 19:45 (7:45 pm) and arrives back in Taipei at 21:40 (9:40 pm).
Bad Badtz-Maru is one of the Sanrio familyโs most popular characters. Different from Hello Kittyโs sweet image, Badtz-Maru is naughty in a charming kind of way. The new livery captures Bad Badtz-Maru in action, wearing his backpack and sprinting to the nose of the plane, ahead of his best friends. With hats, a camera, snacks and other holiday necessities, Bad Badtz-Maru and friends are ready for a relaxing, laughter-filled vacation aboard EVA.

Building on affiliate UNI Airโs domestic success with its launch of the worldโs first Bad Badtz-Maru aircraft last year and complementing its new Sanrio-family livery, EVA has designed more than 30 inflight service items and cabin amenities, including Bad Badtz-Maru pillows, slippers, headrest covers, playing cards, meal boxes, post cards, safety cards and disposable hand towels. All items are part of the airlineโs dedicated program to make the flying experience fun for passengers.
EVA and its Sanrio family jets have been popular among passengers all over the world since it launched its first generation of Hello Kitty Jets in 2005. In 2016, the Daily Mail recognized EVAโs specially painted aircraft among the world’s best liveries and Global Traveler Magazine awarded the carrier a special โLeisure Lifestyle Award for Outstanding Customized Service,โ recognizing it for โgoing beyond what is expectedโ and โdoing something extraordinary.โ To keep giving passengers fresh experiences and making flying fun, EVA is renewing its series of specially themed aircraft and developing new liveries during the first half of this year.

SKYTRAX, an international air transport standards and quality rating organization, awarded EVA Air its prestigious 5-Star Airline ranking during a ceremony in Taipei, Taiwan on June 15, 2016. The 5-Star ranking is SKYTRAX’s highest global airline quality rating and the result of direct and professional analysis of as many as 800 different areas of EVA’s product and service delivery.
SKYTRAX initiated a thorough evaluation of EVA in May 2015. The airline rating organization sent auditors to fly the airline and analyze airport and onboard products in addition to frontline staff service on the ground and in the air. These auditors flew multiple EVA flights from different gateways and sampled all of the carrier’s cabin classes during the year-long process of certifying the 5-Star Airline Rating.
SKYTRAX began rating EVA in 2008, awarding it four stars from the start and recognizing the airline’s high product standards and staff services across different cabin classes inflight and at the airline’s home-base airport, Taoyuan International Airport just outside of Taipei, Taiwan. EVA was among only 37 carriers worldwide to hold the SKYTRAX 4-Star Airline Rating in 2015.
SKYTRAX ranks airlines in five categories, from 1-star through the top 5-star designation. Its evaluations are recognized as a global benchmark for airline quality. SKYTRAX also ranked EVA as one of the “World’s Top-10 Best Airlines” and the number one airline for “Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness” for 2015, based on its annual quality satisfaction survey of travelers worldwide.
EVA joins an elite group of carriers consistently recognized as the best of the best. The other seven 5-star airlines are All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) has announced long term lease agreements with EVA Air (Taipei) for four new Boeing 787-9s and two new Boeing 787-10s. These aircraft are from ALCโs Dreamliner order book with Boeing and will deliver from mid-2018 through early 2020. These placements will bring the number of new Boeing widebody aircraft that EVA Air will lease from ALC to ten, including four Boeing 777-300 ERs already contracted.
Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and EVA Airways (EVA Air) (Taipei) today finalized a historic order for up to 24 787 Dreamliners (18 787-10s and 6 787-9s) and two 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jetliners (below). The order, valued at more than $8 billion at current list prices, marks the largest single commercial airplane purchase in Taiwan aviation.

EVA Airways becomes the newest Dreamliner customer and will join the 787-10 launch customer team as one of the first airlines in the world to introduce the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family.
EVA Airways continues to modernize its long-haul fleet to replace aging aircraft and plans to grow its fleet to more than 100 units by 2020. These new 787-10 Dreamliners will allow the airline to expand into new markets. They will be deployed on medium-range and long-haul flights and will be operated in tandem with the 777-300 ERs to form the backbone of EVA Airways’ fleet.
EVA Airways currently operates more than 40 Boeing airplanes and with today’s order, the airline’s backlog will increase to 37 airplanes, which includes fourteen 777-300ERs, five 777 Freighters and eighteen 787-10s.
EVA Airways’ 777-300 ER fleet continues to grow and the carrier is the world’s eighth largest 777-300 ER operator in the world and fourth largest in Asia.
The 787-10 will be the third and longest member of the super-efficient 787 family. With its greater passenger and cargo capacity, robust range and passenger-pleasing features, the 787-10 will complement EVA’s Boeing widebody fleet while setting a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics.
The 787-10 will be 25 percent better in fuel and emissions than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and EVA Air (Taipei) yesterday (November 15) celebrated the unveiling of the airline’s new livery during a delivery ceremony for the carrier’s 22nd 777-300 ER (Extended Range).
“Today, we unveiled a new livery design to herald our continuing commitment to service innovation,” said EVA Chairman K.W. Chang. “EVA was a launch customer for the 777-300ER in 2005 and the aircraft has become the backbone of our long-haul fleet. By the end of 2017, we will be operating more than 30 Boeing 777-300ERs. These new generation Boeing 777-300ERs have significantly upgraded our in-flight service and cabin environment.”
EVA’s new corporate identity retains its original compass design, borrowed from the logo of its parent company, Evergreen Group, which symbolizes the airline’s seamless network and services. In the livery, the simplified tail design establishes the compass as the focal point for the EVA Air brand and represents the carrier’s commitment to quality service and flight safety.
EVA Air currently operates more than 36 Boeing airplanes, including 21 777-300 ERs. The airline plans to introduce seven more 777-300 ERs to its fleet by the end of 2016 and deploy them on North American routes.
The 777-300 ER is one of the most fuel and cost-efficient airplanes in its class as well as the most reliable twin-aisle aircraft in the world. It also has the highest cargo capability of any passenger airplane in service. The 777-300 ER will receive further improvements in 2016 designed to reduce fuel use by 2 percent.

EVA Air (EVA Airways) (Taipei) intends to purchase up to 24 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and two additional 777-300 ER (Extended Range) jetliners, which is valued at more than $8 billion at current list prices. EVA Airways will join the 787-10 launch customer team and will be one of the first airlines in the world to introduce the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family.
Once the deal is finalized, Boeing will post the order on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries website.
The airline currently operates more than 37 Boeing airplanes in its fleet, including 21 777-300 ERs. The 777-300 ER is the backbone of EVA Airways’ growing fleet and the carrier is the world’s 8th largest 777-300ER operator and 4th largest in Asia.

EVA Air (Taipei) and Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) have finalized an order for five 777F Freighters. The order, valued at more than $1.5 billion at list prices, will represent the first 777F Freighters to join EVA Air’s fleet, and the first to be delivered to a Taiwanese airline.
Boeing first announced EVA Air’s intent to order the five 777 Freighters at the 2015 Paris Air Show last month.
The Taiwanese airline plans to use the new freighters to bolster its fleet on trans-Pacific and Asian routes in an effort to meet growing demand in the air cargo market.
EVA Air currently operates more than 35 Boeing airplanes, including 20 777-300 ERs. With 13 additional 777-300 ERs on order โ both direct purchased and leased โ EVA will become one of the largest 777 operators in the world. The carrier plans to grow its operational twin-aisle fleet to more than 60 airplanes by the end of 2025.
The 777 Freighter is the world’s largest and longest range twin-engine freighter, capable of flying 4,900 nautical miles (9,070 kilometers) with a full payload at general cargo market densities.
EVA Air (Taipei) yesterday (June 19) as planned, inaugurated the Taipei (Taoyuan) – Houston (Bush Intercontinental) route with the pictured Boeing 777-36N ER B-16722 (msn 42107) (above) painted in the latest Hello Kitty livery named “Shining Star”.
The Houston Airport System issued this statement:
EVA Airย Chairman KW Chang served as captain in charge of the inaugural Taipei- Houston flight for a brand-new specially painted Boeing 777-300 ER on June 19. The airline tailored its new plane for Texas and named it the EVA Air Hello Kitty “Shining Star” Jet.
With its excellent services, top safety rankings, exceptional route system and co-share alliances, EVA gives travelers from Houston and the Southwest comfortable options for travel worldwide. From North America gateways that include Los Angeles, New York (JFK), San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, Toronto and Vancouver in addition to Houston, EVA operates more flights from North America with one-stop connections to more destinations throughout Asia than any other airline. Houston passengers can connect onward from Taipei via 86 flights to 10 cities in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar. With subsidiary UNI Air, EVA operates an additional 131 weekly flights to 29 destinations in Mainland China and also flies to Guam, Korea, 10 major cities in Japan and more. By flying our latest Hello Kitty Jet and offering convenient one-stop connections to cities throughout Asia, we believe our new service will be a Texas-sized success.”
EVA worked with Sanrio to tailor a Hello Kitty Shining Star Jet livery and theme especially for Houston. The cast of colorful, Texas-sized characters painted along the length of the plane includes Little Twin Stars Kiki and Lala, flying through the skies with their pet teddy bear while Hello Kitty and My Melody happily ride along on stars. Each of EVA’s exclusive Hello Kitty Jets has its own unique livery and theme. The new EVA Hello Kitty Shining Star Jet is the airline’s seventh specially painted aircraft and its second using a long-range Boeing 777-300ER. It currently flies its other six Hello Kitty Jets from Taiwan to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Guam and Paris.
EVA is launching its passenger route between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental and Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airports with three flights a week and adding a fourth, using a Boeing 777-300 ER with standard EVA livery, on July 8, 2015.
