American to add a new route from Philadelphia to Bentonville (Northwest Arkansas)

American Airlines is planning to add a new American Eagle route from its Philadelphia hub to Bentonville, AR (Northwest Arkansas), the home of Walmart, on September 4, 2019.

The new route will be operated by Republic Airline Embraer 175s.

Republic Airline’s parent, Republic Airways, introduced this new livery in April 2019 on the pictured Embraer ERJ 170-100SU N826MD (msn 17000046).

In other news, American will also add Embraer ERJ 140 service from the Dallas/Fort Worth hub to the Tri-Cities Airport (Northeast Tennessee) on August 15, 2019 according to Airline Route. The new route will be operated by Envoy Air.

Embraer delivers the 1,400th E-Jet to American Airlines

Embraer celebrates the delivery of its 1,400th E-Jet, an E175, during a ceremony at Embraer’s industrial facilities in São José dos Campos, Brazil.

American Airlines took delivery of this milestone aircraft and selected Envoy Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group Inc., to operate the aircraft. Since American Airlines has been a customer of Embraer for nearly 20 years, subsidiary Envoy is one of the original ERJ operators and currently has over 100 ERJs in its fleet.

Combining the 2013 and 2017 E-Jet orders, American has ordered 74 E175s and selected Envoy to operate 54 of those E175s; this delivery represents Envoy’s 44th E175.

Since entering revenue service in 2004, when the first aircraft was delivered to LOT Polish Airlines, the E-Jets family has received more than 1,800 orders and delivered 1,400 aircraft.

Today, E-Jets are flying in the fleet of 70 customers in 50 countries. The versatile 70 to 130-seat family has flown more than one billion passengers and flies with low-cost airlines as well as with regional and mainline carriers.

American Airlines strengthens service to Canada in 2018

American Airlines is strengthening its ties to Canada. Starting next summer, American is adding service from its hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Daily service to Vancouver begins May 4, 2018, and seasonal service to Calgary begins June 7, 2018. The airline will also increase frequencies from the U.S. East Coast to Eastern Canada and extend seasonal service to popular Canadian destinations.

Increased service to Western Canada in 2018:

  • Edmonton: American has added an additional winter trip between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and Edmonton International Airport (YEG), increasing to two daily flights between Dec. 15, 2017 and April 2, 2018.

Increased service to Eastern Canada in 2018:

  • Toronto: Beginning Feb. 15, 2018, American is adding an additional trip between New York LaGuardia (LGA) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and starting May 4, 2018, American is adding an additional trip from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to YYZ. LGA to YYZ is increasing from four to five trips (year-round) and upgauging two frequencies to a dual-cabin Embraer E175. DCA to YYZ is increasing from two to three trips (year-round).
    • Customers flying from YYZ will have access to a new, contemporary premium experience in Terminal 3 with the recently re-opened and redesigned 2,500-square-foot Admirals Club® lounge.
  • Ottawa: On May 4, 2018, American is adding an additional frequency between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Ottawa International Airport (YOW). This route will now be operated three times daily, year-round.
  • Quebec City: Service between PHL and Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) has been extended through Nov. 3, 2018.

With the addition of this new service, American will offer up to 69 daily flights from seven Canadian cities to U.S. hubs in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C.

American orders 10 additional Embraer 175s, to be operated by Envoy

Embraer and American Airlines Inc. signed a firm order for ten E175 jets. American Airlines is exercising its purchase rights from its original contract with Embraer signed in 2013. This new order is in addition to the one placed in April for four aircraft; is valued at USD 457 million, based on current list prices, and will be included in Embraer’s fourth-quarter backlog. Deliveries begin in 2018 and continue through mid-2019.

Combined with the airline’s two previous orders for the E175, this new contract results in a total of 74 E175s for American Airlines.

American Airlines selected Envoy, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group Inc., to operate the ten aircraft, which will be configured with 12 First Class, 20 Main Cabin Extra, and 44 Main Cabin seats, for a total of 76 seats.

Including this new contract, Embraer has sold more than 390 E175 jets to airlines in North America since January 2013, earning more than 80% of all orders in the 76-seat jet segment. Since entering revenue service, the E-Jets family has received more than 1,800 orders and over 1,300 aircraft have been delivered. Today, E-Jets are flying in the fleet of 70 customers in 50 countries. The versatile 70 to 150-seat family is flying with low-cost airlines as well as with regional and mainline carriers.

American Eagle to fly the Chicago O’Hare – Albany, NY route

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) is adding American Eagle (operated by Envoy Air) Bombardier CRJ700 jet service from the Chicago (O’Hare) hub to Albany, New York starting on March 3, 2016.

In other news, Mesa Airlines will expand American Eagle services from the Phoenix hub to Lubbock, Memphis, Midland/Odessa and Roswell starting on March 3, 2016 per Airline Route.

American Eagle to add four regional routes

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) is adding American Eagle ERJ 145 service (operated by Envoy Air) on the Charlotte – Springfield, Missouri route on November 5. The new route will operate daily according to Airline Route.

 

Additionally the carrier is also adding three American Eagle routes from New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Akron/Canton and Memphis will be added on November 5 followed by Jacksonville on December 17 per Airline Route.

AFA union calls on American CEO Doug Parker to “treat all employees equally”

Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) has issued this statement about the recent flight attendant base closures of Envoy Air in Los Angeles, Miami, San Juan and now New York City. Envoy Air has been shrinking in size, both in the number of bases and employees. Here is the full statement by AFA:

Flight Attendant leaders from 18 airlines, representatives of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), unanimously adopted a resolution in support of Envoy Air Flight Attendants. Envoy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Airlines Group (AAG). The AFA Flight Attendant leaders from across the aviation industry called on American CEO Doug Parker and Envoy Air President Pedro Fabregas to work with AFA to mitigate the impact of several Flight Attendant base closures on the hard-working Envoy Flight Attendants.

“Closures in Los Angeles, Miami, San Juan, and now New York City have displaced hundreds of Flight Attendants, uprooted them from their families and friends, and without any consideration from the AAG management team,” said Envoy AFA MEC President Robert Barrow. “We’re calling on American CEO Doug Parker and Envoy President Pedro Fabregas to act in the best interest of the airline and its dedicated employees by providing reasonable opportunities for Flight Attendants at Envoy Air.”

AAG is making record setting profits, but yet refuses to honor their frontline employees’ contributions to the success of the Envoy operation. While Doug Parker announced a 4% wage increase for Flight Attendants and other employees working American’s mainline operation, the Flight Attendants serving the same passengers for American Eagle at Envoy have been asked for cuts from their contract.

“At our board meeting last week, we passed a resolution in solidarity with our sisters and brothers at Envoy Air,” said AFA International President Sara Nelson. “With our union’s backing, we’re calling for equal treatment, an option of a Voluntary Separation Package, and that management stop their heavy-handed actions towards employees and their hard-earned collective bargaining rights.”

As the world’s largest Flight Attendant union, AFA supports Flight Attendants, as well as Flight Attendants around the world, in their fight to secure fair and equitable working conditions.

“Mr. Fabregas says he’s working to minimize the impact on Flight Attendants following the base closures, but true leadership would result in making good on that statement in a way that is meaningful to Envoy Air’s first responders – its Flight Attendants,” said Barrow.

American Airlines’ pilots and flight attendants to receive membership in CBP’s Global Entry program

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth), in close coordination with the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), has announced it is the first carrier to offer its nearly 40,000 pilots and flight attendants complimentary membership in CBP’s Global Entry program. Membership in Global Entry allows expedited CBP clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States.

Started as a pilot program in 2008, Global Entry is now operational at 42 U.S. airports and 11 pre-clearance locations. As an added benefit, Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in the TSA PreCheck™ expedited screening program. As part of the process, all participants must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program and undergo a rigorous background check and interview before enrollment. Eligible American flight crew members may begin enrolling in the program this month.

Envoy Air Inc., an American Airlines Group wholly owned regional carrier, will also offer complimentary Global Entry membership to its more than 2,700 crew members.

Envoy Air’s pilots vote to ratify the new tentative agreement, Envoy to get 40 new Embraer 175s

Envoy Air (American Eagle) (subsidiary of American Airlines Group) (Dallas/Fort Worth) will continue to grow. The pilots, represented by ALPA, have approved the tentative agreement hatched out between the company management and ALPA (MEC) representing the pilots. Envoy issued this statement today:

Pilots at Envoy Air Inc., an American Airlines Group wholly owned regional carrier, have voted to ratify a Tentative Agreement reached between the carrier and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). This agreement was ratified by a vote among Envoy’s more than 2,400 pilots and allows Envoy to now offer all existing and future pilots a direct career progression to American Airlines, the world’s largest mainline carrier. In addition, it provides Envoy with a firm fleet commitment of 40 new fuel-efficient 76-seat Embraer ERJ 175 (E175) aircraft and the opportunity to operate up to 90 more E175s, if American exercises those options.

“We are very pleased our pilots voted to ratify the Tentative Agreement that offers them new, large and modern aircraft to fly and faster career advancement at both Envoy and American Airlines,” said Envoy’s president and CEO, Pedro Fabregas. “This agreement also lays the foundation for Envoy to become a stronger and more successful company for all of our more than 14,000 employees. My sincere thanks to Envoy ALPA and its Master Executive Council (MEC), as well as ALPA president Lee Moak, ALPA executive administrator Tim Canoll and MEC chairman Sam Pool for their hard work and dedication to reach this agreement.”

According to ALPA, Envoy Air pilots completed voting on the proposed changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Of the 91.57% of eligible Envoy pilots who voted, 75% voted to accept these changes.
