Delta confirms its four new destinations and expansion plans for Seattle/Tacoma

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) has confirmed it is adding service from its hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Boston; Orlando; Pasco, Washington; and Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria is a new destination in Delta’s network and is subject to foreign government approval. Delta will also expand its existing Bozeman, Montana, service from Seattle/Tacoma.

The new service includes:

One daily year-round flight to Boston’s Logan International Airport beginning April 4, 2016.
One daily year-round flight to Orlando International Airport beginning December 19, 2015.
Three daily year-round flights to Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco beginning November 1, 2015.
Three daily year-round flights to Victoria International Airport beginning April 4, 2016.
One daily year-round flight to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport beginning August 1, 2015, expanded from Saturday-only seasonal service.
Flights to Boston and Orlando will operate using Boeing 737-800 and 757-200 aircraft, respectively. Bozeman, Pasco and Victoria service will be operated by Delta Connection carrier SkyWest Airlines using two-class, 65-seat Bombardier CRJ700 regional jets.

The new service is part of Delta’s previously announced plans for 2 percent system capacity growth for 2015.

Boston and Orlando service will connect Seattle/Tacoma with the third and fifth largest markets on the East Coast. Boston service will also provide customers one-stop access through Seattle/Tacoma to the top five destinations in Asia.

By August, the airline will operate 128 flights to 36 destinations from its West Coast hub.

Earlier this month, Delta celebrated the start of service from Seattle/Tacoma to Boise; Sacramento; Sitka, Alaska; and Ketchikan, Alaska along with the expansion of service to Fairbanks and Juneau, Alaska. Service to Denver begins on June 4, and service to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii begins in December. Delta will also expand service to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in October along with Palm Springs, Calif.; and Tucson, Ariz., in December.

During the summer, Delta offers 10 long-haul international flights from Seattle/Tacoma, providing as much long-haul international service from Seattle/Tacoma as all other airlines combined. This includes the top five destinations in Asia and three of the top four destinations in Europe. Delta is the only carrier to offer nonstop service from Seattle/Tacoma to Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo-Haneda.

Locally, Delta recently opened a 7,000-square-foot corporate office just outside Seattle in downtown Bellevue. The airline has also invested $15 million in its facilities at Sea-Tac, including its Delta Sky Club and lobby renovations, Sky Priority services, new gate area power recharging stations, expanded ticket counters and enhancements to the international arrivals area. Delta people are active members of the Seattle community, working to serve their neighbors both in and out of the airport.

ECAir is coming to Beirut

ECAir-Equatorial Congo Airlines (Brazzaville) has announced on June 2 it will add twice-weekly Boeing 757-200 service on the new Brazzaville – Beirut, Lebanon route.

Icelandair is coming back to Chicago O’Hare

Icelandair (Keflavik) has announced further expansion of its global network with new year-round service from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Flights will begin March 16, 2016 with four weekly round-trips to Iceland on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with connections to more than 20 destinations in Europe.

Icelandair, in operation since 1937, has a long, illustrious history of providing flights from the United States to Europe, including a 15-year stint from Chicago that began in 1973. Since then, Icelandair has continued to grow as an airline with new aircraft, modern amenities and more destinations. With the announcement of Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Icelandair will now offer service from 15 North American gateways.

Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Boston, Chicago-ORD, Denver, Edmonton, Newark, New York-JFK, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.; and seasonal service from Anchorage, Halifax, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando, Portland, OR and Vancouver. Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the U.K. and Continental Europe. Only Icelandair allows passengers to take an Icelandair Stopover for up to seven nights at no additional airfare.

ECAir’s leased Boeing 757-200 is back in service

ECAir-Equatorial Congo Airlines (Brazzaville) is once again using its leased PrivatAir (Geneva) Boeing 757-204 HB-JJE (msn 27219). According to the airline, HB-JJE arrived back at Brazzaville last night. The ECA fleet now consists of four Boeing 737-300/700s, two Boeing 757-200s and one Boeing 767-300.

In the coming weeks, ECAir-Equatorial Congo Airlines will continue to expand its network with the opening of its third intercontinental (Beirut) and new regional destinations (Luanda, Abidjan, Yaounde, Bangui, N’Djamena).

La Compagnie today starts London – New York area flights

La Compagnie (Paris-CDG) today enters the very competitive London – New York area market. The French boutique upscale carrier commences Boeing 757-200 services today between Luton Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport with Boeing 757-256 F-HTAG (msn 29307).

Flybe Finland to become Nordic Regional Airlines

Flybe Finland (Helsinki) will become Nordic Regional Airlines in May reflecting the recent change in ownership. The name change still requires approval by the Trade Register, which is expected to take place in early May.

According to the airline’s CEO Maunu Visuri, “The new name reflects our company’s core business, i.e. the regional flying. Our goal is to continue to be a high-quality and skilled Nordic airline to offer excellent service to their customers.”

A new look will be unveiled in the early summer and the transformation will be implemented in stages during 2015.

ECAir has a Boeing 757-200 seized in Paris

PrivatAir (Geneva) has stopped operating its Boeing 757-204 HB-JJE (msn 27219) for ECAir-Equatorial Congo Airlines (Brazzaville). HB-JJE was operating the aircraft for ECAir.

According to a statement by ECAir, the airliner was seized at Paris (Charles de Gaulle) on April 11.

According to ECAir (translated from French);

“This seizure is considered by Equatorial Congo Airlines as manifestly illegal because it is based on a judgment by opposing parties other ECAir and the amount awarded in this judgment is not due to any hypothesis by Equatorial Congo Airlines. Equatorial Congo Airlines will assert its rights in court to release from the seizure and to obtain compensation for damages in a short time. The company has made arrangements to limit any inconvenience that may be caused to its passengers. Our lawyers are hard at work to recover the Boeing 757-200.”

In the coming weeks, Equatorial Congo Airlines plans to continue to expand its network with the opening of its third intercontinental (Beirut) and new regional destinations (Luanda, Abidjan, Yaounde, Bangui, N’Djamena).

FedEx Corporation to acquire TNT Express for $4.8 billion

FedEx Corporation (FedEx Express) (Memphis) has announced its intention to acquire its European rival TNT Express (TNT Airways) (Amsterdam) in an all-cash public offer with a stated public value of $4.8 billion. FedEx is offering a 33 percent premium in its price offering for the stock of TNT. The combined European headquarters will be Amsterdam. TNT’s Liege cargo hub will be maintained.

FedEx Corporation (FedEx) and TNT Express N.V. (TNT Express) reached conditional agreement on recommended all-cash public offer of €8.00 per ordinary TNT Express share.

The Offer Price represents a premium of 33% over the closing price of 2 April 2015 and a premium of 42% over the average volume weighted price per TNT Express share of €5.63 over the last 3 calendar months.

The transaction represents an implied equity value for TNT Express of €4.4 billion ($4.8 billion).

Transaction unanimously recommended and supported by TNT Express’ Executive Board and Supervisory Board.

High level of deal certainty.

PostNL N.V. has irrevocably confirmed to support the Offer and tender its 14.7% TNT Express shareholding.

Combination will transform FedEx’s European capabilities and accelerate global growth.

Customers will enjoy access to an enhanced, integrated global network, combining TNT Express strong European capabilities and FedEx’s strength in other regions globally, including North America and Asia.

FedEx and TNT Express employees share a commitment to serving customers and delivering value for shareholders and supporting the communities they live and work in.

The parties have agreed to certain non-financial covenants including:

Existing employment terms of TNT Express will be respected.

The European regional headquarters of the combined companies will be in Amsterdam/Hoofddorp.

TNT Express hub in Liege will be maintained as a significant operation for the group going forward.

TNT Express’ airline operations will be divested, in compliance with applicable airline ownership regulations.

FedEx and TNT Express anticipate that the Offer will close in the first half of calendar year 2016.

FedEx and TNT Express are confident that anti-trust concerns, if any, can be addressed adequately in a timely fashion.

Delta to increase operations at Paris CDG for the summer season

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) is increasing its flight options from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport for the summer 2015 season. The airline will restart nonstop flights from Paris CDG to both Philadelphia International and Pittsburgh International airports, both effective May, 11, 2015. These flights start after Delta adds a third daily flight to Boston’s Logan International Airport on March 29, complementing the existing daily Delta and Air France service. With the addition of these flights, Delta will operate up to 13 peak-day departures between Paris CDG and the United States during the summer months.

Delta’s services between Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Boston will be operated in conjunction with joint-venture partner, Air France-KLM. The airline will use a 167-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft (above) on flights to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and a 245-seat Boeing 767-400 aircraft on the Boston route.

Shanghai Airlines retires its last Boeing 757

Shanghai Airlines (Shanghai) has retired its last Boeing 757-200 from revenue service. The pictured Boeing 757-26D B-2875 (msn 33966) on March 21 operated flight FM 9172 from Harbin to Shanghai (Pudong) according to wcarn.com.

Shanghai Airlines added the first Boeing 757-200 in 1993.
