Strategic Airlines has a stranded Airbus A320 at Lyon

Strategic Airlines (Brisbane) is dealing with growing adverse publicity with its French division due to a stranded flight in Lyon/St. Exupery. The charter flight with a disabled Airbus A320 was due to depart at 7 a.m. (0700) yesterday (July 10) has been grounded at Lyon/St. Exupery since then due to “technical problems” according to this published report. The passengers were due to fly to the Canary Islands and have been stranded since yesterday. The company is attempting to find a solution. Strategic Airlines has two AOCs (in essence two airlines), one in Australia and the other in France.

ANA considers a new low-cost subsidiary

ANA (All Nippon AIrways) (Tokyo) is considering establishing a new-cost subsidiary to operate both domestic and regional international routes. The new subsidiary would be based at Osaka (Kansai) if it decides to move forward with the project. The new subsidiary would operate under a different name and brand.

Air Canada paints A320 C-GQCA for U2

Air Canada (Montreal) has painted its Airbus A320-211 C-GQCA (msn 210) in the colors of the Irish rock band U2 with “ThreeSixtyAir” titles. The tour is in support of the group’s 2009 album “No Line on the Horizon”. The U2 360° Tour is named after the 360-degree staging and audience configuration it uses for shows, which U2 claims is “the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure.” Previously AC decorated A320 C-FPWE for the U2 Vertigo Tour.

Libyan Airlines to offer Wi-Fi services on A320s

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli) is planning to become the first African airline to offer Internet and mobile phone service on its new Airbus A320s due in 2010.

Armavia (Yerevan) intends to eventually join the SkyTeam. On September 4 Armavia signed a code-share agreement with founding SkyTeam member Air France.

AC is banned from flying U.S. domestic charters

Air Canada (Montreal) will not be permitted to continue flying hockey charter flights domestically between any two U.S. cities. NHL teams are now making other arrangements.

Vueling and Clickair to merge on July 9

Vueling Airlines (Barcelona) and Clickair (Barcelona) will formally merge on July 9 creating a new Vueling with 35 Airbus A320s (17 from Vueling and 18 from Clickair). The Clickair name will be retired. The new Vueling will serve 46 destinations with a total of 92 routes.
