Tatarstan Aircompany (Tatarstan Airlines) (Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia) flight U9 363 with Boeing 737-53A ย VQ-BBN (msn 24785) crashed on landing at Kazan today (November 17) in Russia. The aircraft with 44 passengers and six crew members burst into flames, tragically killing all on board. The flight had arrived on a flight from Moscow (Domodedovo). The crash occurred onย landing at 19:25 ( GMT).
Update: A dramatic new security camera video shows the Boeing 737-500 diving straight into the ground which would explain the lack of survivors in this “landing” accident.

Lao Airlines (Vientiane) today (October 16) suffered a terrible accident. One of their new ATR 72-600s, registered RDPL-34233, crashed into the Mekong River in bad weather while attempting an approach for landing at Pakse Airport in southern Laos on a flight from Vientiane. 39 passengers and five crew members were on board according to the Bangkok Post. All 44 people have tragically perished in the crash. The aircraft is half submerged in the river with bodies being brought to the shore line according to Laos TV.

Corpflite’s (Transportes Aรฉreos Corporativos dba)ย Dornier 228-202K CC-CNW (msn 8063) crashed today (September 9) while approaching for landing at Viรฑa del Mar Airfield/NAS Base Aeronaval Viรฑa del Mar in Chile. The aircraft was attempting to land in fog, but collided with power lines. The crew members (pilotย Ricardo Schรคfer and co-pilot Carlos Peirano) tragically perished in the crash.

Buffalo Airways (Yellowknife), one of the last passenger operators of the venerable Douglas DC-3 in the world, suffered a hard landing at Yellowknife yesterday evening (August 19). The DC-3 had departed Yellowknife on its regular run to Hay River when it was forced to return to Yellowknife after the right engine caught fire. ย According to this report by CBC News, the DC-3 clipped some trees and suffered a hard landing. There were no injuries to the passengers and crew members on board. Buffalo Airways is famous as the airline featured in the Canadian TV series “Ice Pilots”. It is not clear if any of the TV production crews were filming yesterday.
UPS Airlines’ (UPS-United Parcel Service) (Atlanta and Louisville) Airbus A300F4-622R N155UP (msn 841) crashed this morning while on approach from the north to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, Birmingham, Alabama. The crew was operating cargo flight 5X 1354 from the Louisville hub to Birmingham. There were some showers in the area at the time of the accident. The two crew members were tragically killed in the crash.

Asiana Airlines‘ (Seoul) flight OZ 214 from Seoul (Incheon) to San Francisco with a reported 291 passengers and 16 crew members crashed landed short of runway 28L on landing at San Francisco at 1127 local time. The underside of the fuselage, possibly the main gear, impacted the rock seawall while landing leaving a trail of debris down the overrun area and on to the runway. The forward section of Boeing 777-28E ER HL7742 (msn 29171) was consumed by fire. The main fuselage separated from the tail section on impact. Most passengers and crew members were able to escape the burning aircraft from the main section.
The flight crew gave no indication of a problem before attempting its landing.
Two people have died in the crash. 181 people were initially transported to nine area hospitals from the triage area. 123 people are listed as uninjured. 34 people have been transported to the Trauma Center at the San Francisco General Hospital. Of these 34, five are listed now as “critical” and five are now listed as “serious”. One person is now listed as “unaccounted”. The remainder were later transported to area hospitals for medical attention and are expected to be released.
One eyewitness, watching the planes landing, reported to CNN that he saw the airliner land short of the runway with the landing gear hitting the seawall. A fire ball flared on the underside of the aircraft during the hard landing. The aircraft cartwheeled according to the eyewitness with the tail section and vertical stabilizers separating quickly. The right wing tip shows damage.
Another eyewitness who was a passenger in the rear section of the aircraft told CNN the tail section hit the ground very hard and at least two Flight Attendants “fell out” from rear into the gap that was created when the tail section separated.
An United Boeing 747-400 was very close to the final resting spot of the forward section and was preparing to depart.
Weather was reported to be clear and visibility at 10 miles at the time of the accident.
San Francisco International Airport is now reporting it has opened two runways.
HL7742 was delivered new to Asiana on March 7, 2006.
Sita Air (Kathmandu) flight 601 on September 28 operated with a Dornier 228ย (9N-AHA) crashed after takeoff fromย Kathmandu International Airport. All 16 passengers and three crew members on board were killed. The crew reported a bird strike and the loss of an engine and was attempting to return to the airport when it crashed and burned. The flight was bound for the mountainous airport of Lukla, a popular destination nearย Mount Everest.ย The Nepalese government is investigating the tragic accident.

Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 registered as RA-97004 (msn 95004) was found today in wreckage, strewn on the side of the dormant Mount Salak volcano near Jakarta, Indonesia. The Superjet had departed from Jakarta (Halim Perdanakusuma Airport) on a demonstration flight for Sky Aviation with 42 passengers and eight crew members on board. All are feared to have died in the crash (some reports differ on the number of people on board).
Sky Aviation of Indonesia signed a contract in August 2011 to acquire 12 of the Sukhoi Superjet 100s.

AIRES Colombia’s (Bogota) ex-easyJet Boeing 737-73V HK-4682 (msn 32416) while operating flight 8250 from Bogota crashed on landing this morning in stormy weather at San Andres Island. One person has died and at least 114 people were injured. The aircraft broke up and was destroyed.
American Airlines’ (Dallas/Fort Worth) Boeing 737-823 N977AN (msn 29550) as flight AA 331 from Washington (Reagan National) to Kingston, Jamaica via the Miami hub overshot the runway at KIN on landing with 148 passengers and six crew members in a heavy rainstorm late last night. The aircraft is substantially damaged (a possible insurance write off).
