Air Canada launches seasonal service to Atlantic City

Air Canada (Montreal) yesterday (May 22) launched seasonal service to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Air Canada flight AC 7918 from Toronto (Pearson) marked the start of seasonal services to Atlantic City, resort city famed for beaches, boardwalks and casinos.

Seasonal, four times weekly Air Canada Express flights from Toronto to Atlantic City are operated by Jazz Aviation LPย (Halifax) with 74-seat Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) aircraft on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

New routes launched to date this year in addition to Toronto-Atlantic City include: Toronto-Austin, Montreal-Venice, Vancouver-Osaka, Vancouver-Comox, Calgary-Halifax and Calgary-Nanaimo. Upcoming new routes still to launch include: Toronto-Dubai, Toronto-Delhi, Toronto-Amsterdam, Toronto-Abbotsford, Montreal-Mexico City and Calgary-Terrace.

Horizon Air to operate nonstop Seattle/Tacoma – Helena flights

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) on August 23 is introducing Alaska Horizon (operated by subsidiary Horizon Air) Bombardier Q400 nonstop service from Seattle/Tacoma hub to Helena, Montana. The new route will operate on a daily basis according to Airline Route.

The airline currently serves Helena via a stop in Great Falls.

United Express Q400 flight 4882 is forced to make an emergency landing at Philadelphia with an engine fire

Republic Airlines’ (2nd) (Indianapolis) United Express flight UA 4882 from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to United Airlines’ hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) was forced to make an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) yesterday afternoon (April 28). The Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) N336NG (msn 4336) with 71 passengers and four crew members on board safely landed on runway 9R-27L. The ARFF personnel put out the fire on the ground. The fire broke out in the number 2 engine.

PHL Airport put out this short statement:

United Express #4882 diverted from Raleigh to EWR. Right engine was on fire. Passengers evacuated, fire extinguished. Pax being bussed to EWR.

Biman Bangladesh to become a new Bombardier Q400 operator

Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Dhaka), the national flag carrier airline of Bangladesh, is becoming a new Bombardier Q400 operator. The airline has confirmed it has signed an agreement with Smart Aviation Company (Cairo, Egypt) for the lease of two Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprops.

While Bimanโ€™s main hub is located at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, it also operates flights from its secondary hubs at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet (see map below).

Air Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire (Abidjan)Air Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire Orders Two More Bombardier Q400 , the national airline of the Republic of Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire has converted options on two Q400 NextGen airliners to a firm order. Air Cรดte dโ€™Ivoireโ€™s two options were acquired under a contract announced on December 18, 2013 that also included a firm order for two Q400 NextGen aircraft. Air Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire took delivery of its first two aircraft in 2014, in a dual-class configuration.

Flybe to add Liverpool-Amsterdam service

Flybe (Exeter) hasย announced it will operate a new year round service between Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport starting on September 7. This will offer up to three flights a day departing early morning, lunchtime and late afternoons.

With the addition of this new route, Flybeโ€™s 2015 Summer schedule features those to the Isle of Man and Belfast City offering a total choice of up to 60 flights a week.

Starbow Airlines becomes a new Bombardier Q400 operator via Falcon Aviation Services

Starbow Airlines (Aero Surveys Limited) (Accra) has become a new Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) operator. The pictured Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) A6-FLR (msn 4486) is actually wet leased from and operated by Falcon Aviation Services (Abu Dhabi). Bombardier has issued this statement:

Starbow became the first Ghana-based operator of the Q400 turboprop when it launched service with a Q400 NextGen aircraft wet-leased from Falcon Aviation Services LLC of Abu Dhabi. The aircraft is one of six that Falcon ordered from Bombardier in 2014.

Starbow has joined more than 50 owners and operators of Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft worldwide, and has become the 18th member of the family in Africa.

Starbow is a privately owned airline headquartered in Accra, Ghana. Operating domestically from its base at Kotoka International Airport, it is the largest Ghanaian airline. Starbow began domestic flights out of Kotoka International Airport on September 26, 2011 and is currently serving Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale Airports. Starbow is developing and executing its fleet renewal strategy.

SpiceJet Q400 skids off the runway at Hubli, India in heavy rain, the left main gear collapses

SpiceJet DHC-8-400 VT-SUA landing at Hubli (Shylaja Varma)(LR)

SpiceJet (Delhi) Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) VT-SUA (msn 4373) operating flight SG 1085 from Bangalore to Hubli was involved in an incident on landing last night at Hubli, India. The flight was carrying 74 passengers and four crew members. The Q400 reportedly skidded off the runway in heavy rain and the left main gear collapsed. There were no reported injuries.

Air Canada to launch flights to Atlantic City

Air Canada (Montreal) has announced it is launching nonstop service between its Toronto Pearson hub and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The seasonal service, to be flown by Air Canada Express, operated by Jazz Aviation (Halifax), will offer four roundtrips trips a week beginning May 22, 2015.

Air Canada’s service between Toronto Pearson and Atlantic City International Airport will be operated four days a week from May 22 to September 7, 2015, using a 74-seat Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) aircraft.

Alaska Airlines to take another look at flying to Everett after Snohomish County approves a Paine Field terminal

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) is taking another look at possibly serving Paine Field near Everett, Washington (north of Seattle) after the Snohomish County council approved the construction of a passenger terminal. Paine Field is also the home of Boeing’s 747/777/787 assembly plant.

The Snohomish County Council has approved a two-gate passenger terminal at PAE. The building will be leased to Propeller Airports (New York). The facility once built, could handle up to 23 flights a day according to KING 5.

Meanwhile Alaska Airlines is now taking a new look at PAE for possible service probably by Horizon Air (Alaska Horizon) following this vote according to Puget Sound Business Journal.
